I did the "squares on diagonal" method as an experiment. My center was a consistent white and I put all medium values on one side and dark values on the other. The resulting lighter and darker diamonds with the white faux sashing looked great.

Now you’ve set my brain working, @judyallhands3361. I’ve been craving a coverlet (summer-weight quilt with no traditional batting) but knew it would be best to have a middle layer not some kind, not just a pieced top and a backing. Your use of muslin might just be the perfect weight and will add the necessary opaqueness and added stability. Thank you for commenting.

I have sewn a number of QAYG quilts. I prefer to sew a row of blocks together, then quilt each row. This gives less seams on the back. Sewing borders on is easy, too. My scraps are finally organized. My last bin was sewn into three string aquilts, qayg! Love your videos!

As a lazy quilter, this seems like a good idea for making coasters, trivets, placemats, and hot/cold pads. Piecing the blocks together to make a full-size quilt looks like a pain in the butt. And neck and shoulders. 😊 I see some scrappy gifts-for-friends projects in my near future.

It has been a struggle. Watching your video. I am now confident that we can do it at home and I know the kids will be excited to do it also. thank you so much for such an in-depth instructional video.

This is so fun! I like to use a slightly wider strip folded in half on the top so I don’t have to deal with turning under that quarter-inch, but I learned that I make it a hair bigger than the math says because you lose a smidge of fabric in the fold. Then I top-stitch on both sides of the top of the binding. If you use a jelly roll strip, you cut 1” off and are left with a 1.5” strip the you press in half with wrong sides together for the front. Anyway, I hope this makes sense. It’s such a swell method…now I want to go make scrappy blocks! Thank you so much for the inspiration. Also, that fusible bobbin thread is blowing my mind…absolutely brilliant!
