I totally agree. Now I'm in a quandary as I am quite disciplined to completely finish each quilt prior to starting another one. And that includes a label. I just basted a quilt today for our eldest son and will be quilting it myself on my domestic machine. Am committed to making a quilt for a granddaughter for her upcoming wedding. (Its actually one Donna did fairly recently..... Summer Solstice and I ordered the entire kit from Jordan Fabrics). I got the one with the black background. Well, do I make the Summer Solstice for Megan or.... see if I can sneak this one in risking the chance that it could be late for the shower? Dang it Donna.... Maybe I need to look at it as an opportunity to probably add some jewel batiks to my version of this quilt. After I received this kit, I ordered a 10" precut batiks "Tonga Treats" to use with the watermark batiks. She will love it!! Sigh, guess this quilt will have to wait a few months longer. But sure love it when Donna does projects with scraps. And I have made my share of Cozy Quilt patterns since I became an ardent follower of this channel.

Making quilts from fabric scraps is literally what patchwork was made for! This modern thing of buying fabrics specifically for patchworking is so strange to me. It's obviously easier to make coordinating quilts with the pre-packaged fabrics, and especially easier to make patterns that demand certain amounts of a variety of fabrics, and your projects are always beautiful as a result! But _this,_ this is the real way to do it. ;)

I find that when I'm sewing that I make up a pattern blank either paper or fabric, and then I "store" my leftover strips or pieces by sewing them to the blank. That keeps me from having too many pieces cluttering up my space. I can then add to that block until such time as they're full. Then I staystitch around the edges and stack them up until I have enough to make a quilt. I also make up HSTs, crumbs & blocks for the same purpose.

My mom was a child of the Depression and never threw anything away. The quilts she made in her later years when she wasn’t so busy raising children are intricate works of art beautiful my favorites are the scrappy quilts she pieced using triangles cut from the newspaper as foundations. The last strips added to the large end of the triangles were the same color as were the filler pieces. I inherited her huge fabric stash which included several large boxes full of small pieces of fabric which were labeled Little Jibbles!

Donna: You often call a quilt “happy,” and that’s exactly what I see with this one. You’ve worked in my favorite color ranges which probably adds to my reaction. The warm colors don’t speak to me so much but it was wonderful to see the odd sizes and shapes you used on that sample. Such a delightful and open ended project you’ve shared this time. I can imagine placements and table runners and small wall hangings dancing in viewers’ imaginations. The structure of the strong parallel lines allow for so much freedom within. Well done, you!!!
