Well, you need to put captions on for their MVs. They do have very meaningful, deep lyrics for their each and every song. They also have so many symbolism going on in their MVs. It's deeper than we usually see it. This song is about haters. They are literally firing to them. You must listen to it with captions on once more to better know it. If you want to know about how they come up with this band, you need to check out their introduction videos for that. They actually are inspired by many people, including Michael Jackson and etc. Since they are 7 different people, they each have their own role models too. The inspiration also depends in the concept of the album, for eg, for they Map Of The Soul series, their inspiration was Carl Jung. If you mean by their background, I suggest you listen to "Hip Hop Lover" (it also has other names such as "Hip Hop Phile" etc but it's the same song) Loved your reaction! Thank you for not assuming and please ask questions if you don't know. We ARMYs will try our best to answer. Hey great reaction. Like a lot of people have said, remember captions; SO much of BTS is the lyrics. And don't need to apologize, some Army get fairly picky but yeah they are K pop and they are a boy band, it's just they are a lot more besides that. The problem is there are so MANY Army that you are going to catch negativity from that edge percentage, you just don't have to worry about them. Some are borderline nuts but the vast majority are reasonable and very positive. There are a lot of other great songs you can do, but I'd say this is a great one to start with. I agree that Fire, Not Today, ON (Kinetic Manifesto), Blood Sweat and Tears, and some of the Award performances will blow your mind. The solo stuff is great too, my favorites are Daechwita, Shadow, Persona, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Lie. There is a lot of Korean cultural info and social commentary, and for a lot of them there are good explanations by a korean (DKDKTV). I'm an older lady too so I hope I can balance out that other one (

I never get tired of seeing people react to Mic Drop for the first time. BTS is so big and the fandom is so large, you’re bound to find ARMYs who are easily offended at any hint of dislike to something BTS. Based on your comment here I had to check out your reaction to butter. I didn’t find anything wrong with your reaction in that video. So, what I like to recommend to new BTS reactors is UGH because the message of the rap is very important and us ARMY fandom need to be periodically reminded of it. UGH is truly worth it. But it doesn’t have MV, only lyrics or live performance to react to. So, if you prefer MV, I would pick ON. ON has 2 MV (like many of their songs). I prefer you do both. But the 1st time default reaction would be ON: Kinetic Manifesto Con Prima. Have fun discovering more BTS. Edit: as mentioned by another ARMY, it’s best to watch UGH and the explanation provided by DKDKTV to better appreciate the song and it’s context.

You're fine bro. They ARE kpop artists. Kpop just typically means pop music produced in Korean or within the Korean market. I think it's very OKAY to say that BTS is a kpop group. Yes they have evolved as artists and they have moved beyond that and they span many genres, but so does kpop too. Let's not forget they are Korean artists and that they brought a ton of clout to the kpop community. Some people get really pressed about calling them kpop which I never really understood -- it's as if they think being called kpop is embarassing or a negative quality and it's not. + some people are VERY sensitive about comments about BTS and rightly so. They and the fandom (ARMY) have been through so much BS and mistreatment. If you ever feel that a fan crosses boundaries into being extremely hateful or violent in their comments however, that person is posing as a BTS fan to bring the reputation of ARMY down...I know that sounds insane but it's an actual thing that happens. Don't feel like you have to take in EVERYONE's criticism. You do you man~ You seem like you want to be respectful and do research and that's more than enough :D Also I feel the pain of everyone screaming CC haha. I don't know why that isn't people's first instinct?

Please put the subtitles on next time 😭and actually most of this song is in English but they do have the original Korean version produced by PDogg, BTS's in-house producer. They also have a Japanese version and a remix with Desiigner. During live performances there will be another drop at the end which is a dance break, it's the best thing ever! Nas is a huge artistic influence on RM. I'm not sure about the rest of the members but they do look up to many artists American and non-American. The member named V grew up listening to jazz and he has a large collection that he sometimes recommends to ARMY. I think you might get a good understanding of all their hip-hop influences if you listen to Hip-Hop Lover (color-coded lyrics).

People need to chill with the "BTS are not K-pop" stuff lmao. K-pop just means "Korean popular music" and BTS would be THE definition of that. Also it's a label referring to a specific part of the Korean music industry and not necessarily a genre of sound and BTS are still part of that part of the music industry. I feel like a lot of people saying that BTS are not k-pop are just people who look down on k-pop and don't wanna be seen as a k-pop fan so they're trying their gosh darn hardest to distance themselves and BTS from the rest of the k-pop world...

I’m glad you are enjoying your intro to BTS. I’ve subbed in anticipation of more reactions to our Kings. Ignore people being over sensitive about labels; real ARMYs appreciate that you are just starting your journey and are here for you and any questions you have 💜 FYI: All official MVs will have English subtitles (except some really early ones). Just go to closed captions and select English. This is important as BTS lyrics always have meaning and are a part of what makes the songs so enduring. Also ARMYs don’t mind if you pause or watch the video again a second time. We are not too keen on people talking over the video though. We want to here your opinion and point of view and we love long videos. What else?… oh yeah! Started as a Hip Hop group and rap is a huge part of their music. They have three rappers and 4 vocalist but they all do sing and all rap on (very special) occasions. They do solo tracks and subunit tracks as well as tracks with all seven members. Some also have released separate mixtapes as solo artists. All the guys have talent and all get a chance to shine. And yes their music is incredibly diverse. I’m sure you have had lots of recommendations but I’ll leave mine too for what it’s worth. OT7 songs Idol ON: kinetic Manifesto Film Black Swan Fake Love Dionysus Blood Sweat and Tears Rap Line songs Urgh! Outro: Tear Ddeang Cyphers 1-4 Vocal Line songs House of Cards The Truth Untold There are many more including the solo songs but this will do for now. Enjoy.

Put on Closed Captions. They are available on most of their MV's, except some of the very oldest ones. Then you'll know what they are saying. You don't want to be missing out on their lyrics. BTS has 3 rappers (RM, Suga (aka AgustD), and J-Hope), and 4 vocalists (Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, and V); however, the vocalists can also rap (especially Jungkook), and the rappers can sometimes sing (especially J-Hope). They are involved in writing much of their own lyrics, though they do bring in other writers. Suga produces a lot of their music, but RM and J-Hope, and all the vocalists also can produce. They also have in-house producers. Inspiration - yes, they have had outside inspiration, but I won't remember them as many were from when they were young kids. If you haven't already, please watch Intro to the 7 Members of BTS by Ida S or there are other intros by The Asian Theory and xCeleste that are also good. Even though most of us have seen these, we'll likely watch you react to them as well, 'cause we love it when people are new to BTS and start down the rabbit hole.

BTS started as a hip-hop heavy group in 2013, so actually they have lots of songs like this, especially in the earlier discography ("mic drop" is from 2017 as well). More poppy sound (like in "butter") is a rather recent thing. BTS is a k-pop group. Many fans like to say that "BTS is more than k-pop", probably because they are so famous around the world and have diverse music, but they are a k-pop group. They are singing mostly in korean, they used to be trainees, they sing and dance - that is what idol k-pop groups are. I would recommend "dope", "fire", "not today". If you want to see other k-pop groups, I would recommend Stray Kids - they have a very strong rap line and have a very diverse discography as well, but their title tracks are usually rap-heavy EDM bangers. I would recommend to start with "god's menu". I also recommend ATEEZ - some of their songs sound like war anthems :) check out "Wonderland". More or less successful groups always try to target the western audience as well and therefore have english subtitles in their MVs - this will be the case with every group you will be recommended to listen to, I am sure :)
@deniseannlange45192 жыл бұрын
1st thing, you seem like an enthusiastic and genuine REACTOR!!! I appreciate that alot... there are some "reactors" out there who seem somewhat disingenuous... 2nd, most of their in house videos and even some live performances have cc (aka subtitles/closed cations) ... just look for the cc on the video screen... most of their songs are in Korean with some English and some are in Japanese with some English... MIC DROP has more English in it than most of their songs.. They have only done 3 official songs in ALL English: "Butter" ; "Dynamite" ; and "Permission To Dance"... they have performed a few covers of other's songs like Coldplay's "Fix You" and Sting's/Sean Combs "I'll Be Missing You".... 3rd topic .... those people who are being very negative to you innocent comments are what is called Toxic Army fans... BTS is all about positivity, tolerance, and empowerment of those people who are needing encouragement.... rude, intolerant fans are ignoring that part of BTS & BIGHIT's message .... so ignore them... ARMY will share knowledge and history of the body of the BTS world (& Universe) ..... just ask! When you said BTS is Kpop, you were right.... but they have evolved from Korean hip hop in 2013 into a unique, eclectic genre of their own... that's why you will hear traditional kpop, blues, trap, and many other genres coming from the group... dont like the style of a particular song, there are lots of other ones out there (but for many of us there are no bad BTS songs). Have fun as you get pulled into the BTS rabbit hole and journey through their BTS Universe!

BTS have a huge and very diverse fandom that includes people who are overinvested and project their own insecurities through defending them against every little comment. To be honest, when people compare them to Backstreet I'm like hell yeah, cause they ruled too, I'll still listen to them who are we kidding? As for their references and by a result their genre, BTS listen to a looot of music - obviously - as they are actively participating in the production of their own. So as anybody could understand OF COURSE you have references and inspirations if you want to create something of your own... Their song Hip-Hop Lover (or Hip-Hop phile) is a thorough breakdown of the hip-hop they grew up listening to. In interviews and other content they are producing, they have mentioned all sorts of acts from Nirvana to Michael Jackson. Their youngest, Jungkook has been caught headbanging to Linking Park, they've choreographed Limp Bizkit, their member Taehyung loves old jazz, overall super diverse. So they are making it kind of a point for their work to be "cross-genre" (and that's how a person like me, who grew up with harder sounds like grunge and nu metal, can find BTS the fucking shit...) If you want to have a good base for understanding their approach to music, I would recommend you watch their "be-hind" series of youtube videos, where they break down their process of making their latest album Be. It is super interesting to hear them talk about how they come up with everything from concepts to the final product. I hope you continue digging into that universe that BTS is, you will not regret it!

7:18 They listen to a lot of music, like Michael Jackson, Coldplay, Nars, but honestly, Map of the Soul (one of their album) was inspired by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung... so that's not simple. There is no major influence of others singer and groups over others... they took inspiration by social problems, mental heath, youth power, and they spreend positivity along the way.

You should definitely not mind haters. And this song is exactly a great song that just says FU to the haters. It's cool that you are open to learn so much. Most of KPOP MV's do have subtitles on their videos, which translate the lyrics. In KPOP the lyrics make a huge part in the songs so be sure to put them on if you watch some next time (whether or not you will react to them on camera). Glad you enjoyed this banger! I do recommend you to look more into the KPOP industry, because they truly have amazing songs.

The majority of earlier BTS MV have cc, you just have to turn them. BTS has grown a lot since they debuted in 2013. The evolution of this group is phenomenal. If you're into the upbeat hip hop and RnB, definitely check out Dope, War of hormones, DNA, just to name a few. There are so many good songs and with the variety they provide anyone can find a song that they'll love. 💜

I recommend some late nite talk show interviews or especially their Carpool Karaoke will help solidify faces to the names. Jungkook is part of the vocal line and he was the one who kissed his hand in Butter because he has an army tattoo on it. That was RM, from rap line, who jumped out of the ambulance. You'll see him often take the lead in American interviews because he's fluent in English, while the other guys...well... just like you, they're learning. It's interesting to see them answer the best they can in English but they've come a long way and you can tell they're getting better. Jin will give weird answers regardless if it's Korean or English. You're gonna think it's a translation error, but it's not. He's got Bill Murray vibes. Jin is Jin. Just a heads up.

Ok, you seam genuinely curious so I'll engage and lead you into the rabbit hole. I'll try to keep it short😊 BTS = Bulletproof boy scouts (Bantang Soyeaondan in Korean), and it stands for being bulletproof to stereotypes, bulling and criticism. Kpop, common misconception but it is not a genre, it's an industry. BTS started as a hip hop group, but quickly evolved and with in their 300+ song catalogue you can find pop, ballads, hip hop, rap, jazz, etc. There are 7 members: Kim Namjoon (RM): The leader of the group, born in 94' he is the main rapper, song writer, and super mega intelligent with an IQ of 148. He was the first member to be recruited and the band was built around him. Kim Seokjin (Jin): Born in 92' he is the oldest, and even though in Korea that means he has more privileges he does't use his "Hyung" (older brother) benefits. He is super funny and lovable. Was studding to become an actor when the recruiting team found him, and he was recruited mainly because of his good looks. He learned to sing and dance from 0, and now has one of the most beautiful voices in the industry. Min Yoongi (SUGA): Born in 93' he is also a main rapper, song writer and producer. SUGA (ShooGua) means Shooting Guard, the position he played in his basketball team in high school. Yoogi is an introvert, who prefers to be in his studio writing songs, he writes an average of 300 songs a year. He writes and produces for other artists as well, not just BTS. Jeon Hoseok (J-Hope): Born in 94' he is the lead dancer. His background is from street dancing. He also raps, and he is the happy engine of the group. He choose J-Hope for his stage name because he wanted to bring hope to people. Park Jimin (Jimin): Born in 95' he is one of the main dancers, his background is in contemporary dance and was the last one to be recruited. Jimin has an angelic voice and a beautiful soul. Kim Taehyung (V): Born in 95' Tae has one of the most unique soulful voices, he has low tones and high pitches you wouldn't imagine. Have you heard the phrase "Think outside the box"? well, that would be Tae. He is an artist in every aspect of the word. And yes, when he was younger he was a little "rebellious" in a good fun way thou, and as he grew older he became more calm and matured. Jung Jungkook (JK): Born in 97' he is the youngest of the group, also their main vocalist. He has the most stable voice specially when dancing... oh yeah they don't use playbacks, or lip sing, ever. JK is the "Golden Maknae" (Maknae = the youngest), they call him that because he is good at anything he does... anything. His name is pronounced "Schunggoogk", Not Jung Kook like it got butchered in the western world 😅 Their training period lasted about 2 years, where they lived in a dorm, many trainees came and went, about 30 I believe, and these 7 were chosen to become BTS. They were in their teens when they debuted, JK(youngest) was 16 and Jin(oldest) was 20. Their company, Big Hit entertainment (which mission statement was "Music and artist for healing") was a very small company, and the boys literary started from nothing. They all shared one room in their 2 bedroom apartment and worked really hard to get where they are. You should check out "intro to BTS" by xcelest and "the most beautiful life: updated 2021" by asian theory to get a proper introduction, you will love it I promise. Do Xcelest first if you want, it's a 12 min video, but supper complete. Also "from nobodies to legends" is a good one. BTS's music talks about self-love, acceptance, political injustice, depression, mental health and more important subjects you don't really see pop groups singing about. They do not write your typical "love song". Their videos and lyrics have a lot of symbolisms, and for some you might need to watch the explanation video afterwards because it is too much to take in. They have a couple of songs addressing their hatters (yes, they get a lot of hate) - for example "Mic Drop" that you just watched - you should turn the captions on. And other songs dedicated to ARMY (The name of their fandom). Visually, and this is one of the greatest things of kpop... it not only has to sound good, but has to look good... their videos are master pieces. Eye candy for the visual artists like me. Please keep in mind in the korean culture it's ok to be friendly/touchy/caring for your bro, aside the fact these guys have lived together for 10 years. Also the use of make up and clothing is part of the whole illusion to complete the "stage" (presentation). These guys are down to earth, genuine, good guys. You can see it in everything they do. They have dedicated the last 8 years since they debuted in 2013 to give to their fans... they had a variety show called Run BTS and do regular Vlives with their fans. They are rewriting what the relationship between an artist and their fans is, and that is why we love them so much. As for music and suggestions... man, they have over 300 songs.... what kind of music do you like? lol... ON Kinetic Manifesto, Dynamite, DNA, Save me, GoGo, Dionysius, Not Today, So what... are good to get you started. Bbapsae, UGH, Idol, Spring day (you'll need the explanation video afterwards) Fake Love, Blood Sweat and tears (eye candy videos) 2019 MMA music awards live performance (mind blowing) Ok, I'll stop here this is a lot of info. Welcome to the family! Can't wait to see your journey. ✌🏻💜

Thank you for the reaction! I think their inspiration at first was rappers (american and korean). Idol, Dope and ON Kinetic Manifesto has the best choreografies. Mic Drop, UGH, Ddaeng, Baepase and Cypher are great rap songs. Dis-ease is hiphop old school. No more dream was their first song (in 2013) and it's hiphop also. Fake love and Black swan is kind of hiphop but also calm and melodic. Dionysus, Boy in luv and Danger are kind of rock. Fire, Not today and So what are eletronic. DNA, Dynamite and Butter are pop songs. Airplane abd Filter are latin music (MV of japanese version of Airplane is awesome). Your eyes tell live and Film out live are emotional songs with the best high notes (are japanese songs). Singularity, Stigma and Lie are kind of neo-soul. They wrote all their lyrics and it always has a lot of meaning. Their first albums had a lot of social criticism against consumerism, the rigid school system, the pressure on young people to be perfect and successful. The most beautful moment trilogy was about enjoy the youth. Wings and You never walk alone show their grown, becoming adults. Love yourself trilogy are about mental health. Map of the soul albuns are about Karl Jung's (psicology analitic) theory called "Map of the soul". In summary, everyone has a persona (what you choose to show to others), a shadow (what you hide from others) and ego (the both, what you really are). BE is a seft produced album about the pandemic and lockdown. Blue & grey lyrics is about burn out and depression.

As you start your BTS journey, you'll find MOST ARMYs are happy to help and guide you. Any comments from the vocal minority who don't give you the space to explore and find what you like you should just ignore. BTS has so much in their discography that it's okay if you don't like everything, but it also means they have something for anyone. As long as you are respectful toward their hard work, humility, and love for their fans, you're always welcome to not like something or question something. Enjoy the ride, they're wonderful.

If you listen to a song called hip hop lover (find a live with eng subs), they actually list their inspirations. And for the dancers, Michael Jackson is a huge inspiration. (Dynamite shows this, especially the mma live 2020. Michael Jacksons nephew has shown some love to them on Twitter) They have playlists on Spotify for each member at what their listening to now.

glad you watched mic drop after you watched butter. :) most of their mvs have closed captions though, just remember to turn on the cc next time you watch one of their mvs :) they do have a lot in their discography, and you're right, they are very diverse. i can't really name them all because there's a lot of other artists that are their inspirations. since you're interested in checking out their other mvs, i suggest you start with their older/earlier music (their debut song is No More Dream) and go from there. you'll be able to see for yourself how their music has grown throughout their 8 years in the industry (they debuted june 13 2013 and initially started out as a hip hop group but has since evolved their music into what it is now with premission to dance as their latest english single). they also other projects - rapline, dance line, vocal line - within the group and have collaborated with other artists like Steve Aoki (Mic Drop, Waste in on Me [with RM and jungkook], Untold Truth), Halsey (Boy With Luv), Lauv (Make it Right), Coldplay (My Universe) and Megan Thee Stallion (Butter remix) just to name a few. they also do solo work as well, the rappers (RM, SUGA and JHOPE) have all released mixtapes and the vocal line (jin, jimin, V and jungkook) all have released solo songs they had a hand in composing/writing/producing. oh and yes, i almost forgot to mention that BTS write and produce their own music. :) their songs are deep and meaningful and talk about diverse things like mental health and friendship and loving yourself. if you wanna check out their lyric translations, my go to source is doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/.

They are a boy band they even call themselves a boy band. It’s confusing because they are K Pop but they are also BTS. BTS though is in a category of their own which you will figure out. By the way, Mic Drop is mostly in English. But yes, turn on the subtitles if they are available because their lyrics are incredible. Kissing the hand is part of the choreography because they are talking about how cool they are in Butter and just kissing their hand because they love themself if that makes sense. They have many musicians that have inspired them. When they were younger especially the groups like Big Bang, Epik High etc are groups in Korea that inspired many of them. Even Chicken Noodle Soup which is a east coast song inspired one of them and he even did a cover with Becky G. There’s so much about each member that it would take forever to explain their history etc. But one of the best things about them is how much of their lives they share with their fans. You cannot help but to love these guys. I’m 63 and probably one of their biggest fans. So talented in everything they do but humble af.

Hey @Send1t , bts is a k-pop(Korean pop)boy group, but sometime they have English and Japanese song(idk if they have Chinese song), but most of the time the song are mix of Korean and English. Most of their video have subtitles, you just have to turn them on. There are a bunch of guides online about bts if you want to learn more about bts, but all the people mad at you are the weird k-pop fans that are obsessed with idols, so don’t take the criticism to seriously. This was a great reaction and some song a recommend by them are “fake love”, “black swan”, “chicken noodle soup ft. Becky g”, and “ugh”. Again great reaction and it’s okay to compare them to other stuff and say what you like and don’t like, just don’t make fun of their culture or the way they look and stuff.

They have taken inspiration from a lot of hip hop and trap originators. RM's biggest initial influence is Nas. Obviously MJ is a big influence. But so too are a lot of Korean pop originators like Seo Taiji and Big Bang, and others they have mentioned. You should watch a live version of Mic Drop or the dance practice version. They are amazing! BTW...thumbs up on your Harry Mack reactions. He is a GOAT.
