This story is frightening because it not only shows how capable and unpredictable people are and can be but also how you really don't know people's dark side you only see the side they want you to see and by the time you find out about the dark side many times it's too late, it seems many men today have 0 regard for women and think nothing of harming or killing them, these are very frightening times in which we live.

I was wondering on that too. The relationship ended badly obviously and she got out and away as far as she could. It probably left him broken and taking years to get somewhat back on his feet. And because of all that, i think he loved her still, but also resented her, for what she did. And turned into an obsession. Love often is an obsession. It seems seeing her again triggered the difference in how they proceeded from that breakup, with her being succesfull and him not so (it seems). Even the pictures say a lot, bc the ones from back then, he looks good, but the ones later, show he went downhill. (if those pictures are indeed from those different times). It may be that she was not such a saint as they try to portray in the video. How about the guy she was with, the comedian (another one) that she would marry, got on tv, then decided she was too much in the picture. You cant decide that before you go on tv? You can also marry someone that is regularly on tv, and remain in the shadows. Also, wrt that, this guy is in his 50ies and not a looker. While she is attractive, so could it be she used this guy to actually get in the spotlight and then afterwards came with the reason "too much publicity so breakup' ? It makes no sense otherwise. Bc if you love someone, are engaged, but you dont want to be in the spotlight, then dont be in the spotlight. Its no reason to breakup. It may very well be she used people to advance her carreer. And that behavior, combined with 'love' leaves victims. Not everyone takes that well.

One small but consistent thing I've noticed across a lot of these episodes is the bad attitude the dispatchers and police give people who are panicked or in distress and a lack of urgency by the first cops on scene, not to mention gross incompetence. So not only did we lose 20% restocking fee ($300), we scheduled a hearing about the restraining order and showed the judge that our ring cameras showed no one serving us at the time the neighbor claimed they did. I've been in a situation when someone threw a chair through in the porch window of my downstairs neighbor in a converted house apartment just like this. No one was home downstairs, but someone was trying to break in. I went from being in my sleep clothes and half-asleep watching TV, to a huge BOOM and glass crashing just feet below me. You just have no idea how much your body goes into involuntary shock when you realize in an instant there's someone in your home who's dangerous and violent. I felt just like the roommate in this video. You are in complete adrenaline overdrive and everything you do is so heightened. You go from sleepy to...life or death confrontation in seconds and it really shook me for a few days afterwards, and I'm an athletic guy who was in his 20s and a former athlete back then.

Even youre not sleeping, the shock of suddenly being thrown into a life or death situation has that nearly crippling effect (numb with fear - esp if you dont know what youre facing other than its deadly and youre unarmed) on most ppl. We all like to think we'd immediately have grabbed a bat or a knife and charged in there,, but the reality is different. Some would, knowing their female friend & roommate was being attacked w/o thinking twice abt it, but theyre definitely in the minority. The roommate has no reason to feel any guilt over his actions whatsoever. He had no idea what would happen and immediately sought help. Nothing bad that hap'd that night was his fault.

I usually hold back crying, but as someone who has been through this before, it hit home. I was stalked for years and thanks to that I still have trouble sleeping every night. I was only 17 and making reports with police officers and only my mom knew, I was so ashamed for bringing this person into my life and now not knowing how to get rid of them. They would make fake profiles, and even fake emails pretending i would write to them, 3 different future girlfriends of my stalker would message me on Facebook calling me names that I was talking to their bf and it wasn’t even me but he would purposely pretend it was. The last straw was when he threatened to come into my home and take me with him and telling me he did not care who he had to take out if they tried to stop him. I ended up staying at a friends and hotels to avoid my family getting hurt. From there on I stopped having social media and never putting my full name on anything. It makes me so sad Amy probably felt this or worse with the fame and recognition she was getting. It breaks my heart her life was cut short because so many of us could have been in the same position and it’s not ok. Rip Amie❤

The night she was beat up was New Year’s Eve and she couldn’t go back home because she wouldn’t be able to explain her black eye to her mom so she had to stay in our apartment for an extra week. They gave me a case of beer for the inconvenience of having her stay extra long and all I could think about was getting a new roommate. She forgave him so many times which at that point I was trying to help her but she kept going back to him. Even that night she forgave him. I didn’t understand it despite my efforts to help her. Michael Herman seems like such a decent guy, I really hope he can find peace. This isn’t a movie, this is real life! No script, no heros with superpowers, no story arc to follow. He didn’t know what was going on, or how many were up there with Amie. He did the right thing in running for help. Suspect he would have lost his life if he’d intervened. God bless that man. Edited to add: Women shouldn’t NEED an effing war vet to live with them to be safe. Thats the whole point… anyone saying they’d “do better” has come here to make it about themselves… nobody f’n cares about you. A woman was killed. Show some respect and diffidence to her friends and survivors. It’s not a d*ck swinging contest.

Yes he’s constantly slandered and it’s pathetic.

Some people see it as he should've went in and protected her. I would've, but that's me. Who knows, maybe he'd even gotten the pretty girl and lived happily ever after with her. I would've given it a shot, even if it cost me a black eye or 2.... guaranteed

People, don't forget the parents of your friends. Drop them a line, say hello, let them know you care for them too. Even if it's just courtsy. As a parent, it's so reassuring to know good friends will be there for your kids when you are gone. The dad crying when he mentioned her friends made me cry too.

The woman seemed stunned Amy didn't share her own experience-guess what? That's HIGHLY professional of her and the right thing.

All of the stories on all the different networks seem to lead to death. Why are these beautiful, vulnerable women hiding what is really going on? Love Erin Moriarty and 48 hours! Thank you👍

Dangerous men can make it hard for women to open up. Also, the societal shame of being abused (making victims feel shame)

When he re-entered her life 10 yrs later it proved he was a psycho. She should have got a gun and security alarm then she would have had the chance to get him first.

He was abusive and she tried getting away from him so sad. I think women need to shout it from the hills tell everyone. Don’t suffer in silence! Sad story .. So beautiful! r.i.p.
