Thanks for checking out the video! It's pretty old and scuffed (especially in the audio department lol) but I think people are REALLY sleeping on Anduin's setup going into War Within.

I'm not sleeping, I have a family tie to the PTSD game, I said the moment he walked away from Sylvanas that he had it and I was proven right in that cinematic. See my comment above to you and Pyromancer. Anduin has always been my favorite and I've spent a lot of time trying to follow those personality threads because he reminds me a lot of my former Marine little brother who has that type of look in his eyes at times.

Anduin becomes a disc priest. One that balances both the holy light and the void. Speculation, of course. It would be cool seeing him with split shalamayne. In one hand a void flowing one, while in the other one a holy light one.

I just realized something. Domination magic seems to work by separating the soul into different parts. Anduin feels guilt and shame because when a part of himself, separate from the whole, was given total control it became something horrible and destructive. What Anduin needs to realize is that while the individual part of himself may be destructive, that is only in isolation. When it is present as part of the greater whole that is himself, it is an integral part in making him the person that he is. He needs to learn to not deny the parts of himself that are unpleasant, but come to an understanding of their purpose within his overall personality. Anduin's emotional journey is probably going to serve as an analogue for our understanding of Azeroth. The part of Anduin that is destructive in isolation is to Anduin what the Void is to Azeroth. He probably learns that what must be done in order to heal is to integrate those parts of himself into the whole around the same time we realize that what we need to do is merge all of the disparate cosmic forces back into Azeroth in order for her to heal. it's another fractal, brother. If this is what Blizzard is cooking, I'm ready to eat.

@SixstenWoW and @Pyromancer both. This is a good analysis. I don't think Anduin thought of putting himself on the pedestal, those boots of his father's were really big to fill as he saw it. He thought he had to be his father, to be the kind of man his father was. It wasn't that he saw himself as the big cheese, quite the contrary, he never thought he measured up, even after his father sent the note about being proud of him. I think that failure (and being kidnapped was a failure to him) was what partially set him up for being open to domination (as he would believe, anyway). That's why the PTSD hit him so hard once he was "free" because he wasn't free, he set those weights inside with the guilt he had, from letting down everyone who believed in him (his kingdom, his allies, his friends, ....and his dad and Saurfang.) He came away from that Mak'gora believing he got Saurfang killed. ("I set you on this path..." no matter what Saurfang said about that). His father never saw him, as Anduin believe, as "king" material and had hoped Anduin would have another 50 years to grow into the role. Anduin didn't think he was ready for it. And, when he got dominated, he confirmed that thought that he wasn't ready. He believed he lost everyone's trust, and his own trust in himself. The time spent wandering was trying figure out if he could trust himself, because if he couldn't, there was no way anyone else could and I honestly think he's been trying to figure out how to just not pick up that mantle of king, so that a better king could be crowned. The boy...man...is messed up. Even now. It's going to have to be shown to him that he's still got it. And yes, I do think that the War Within is going to be about him, Alleria, and Thrall learning the lessons about that which they dread the most.

I think in his mind, Andiun equates himself with Sylvanas on scale of wrong done, which is ridiculous. He saw her get punished, but he was welcomed back in open arms. So, he punishes himself.
@charlayned8 ай бұрын
I don't think it's that so much that it's the failure of being worthy of being a friend, of being a king. Domination was one part, but he didn't think he lived up to his father's ideal, or to his father's shadow. He feels he got Saurfang killed (no matter that he didn't). He let down everyone else, not being able to stop Sylvanas in the war and not being able to free his friends from her after capture. He doesn't trust himself, it's not punishment, it resignation and depression, and fear that he won't be able to step up as king, or as a friend. It's a fear reaction coupled with the overwhelming belief he failed everyone. He doesn't want to put his friends in that spot again, he can't trust that he wouldn't. Thrall's "I trust you," given that he was part of the machine that tried to kill the orc, was huge. It helped, but it did not break those mental chains of domination he has been locked in.

Maybe Anduin is leading up to being a jack of all trades build? As in he’ll find ways to balance Light, Shadow, even Death magic (seeing as he definitely has experience with that). He could even be set up to be a sort of “teacher” figure for Arator on controlling both sides of the Void and the Light (I’m a firm believer that Arator is the child of Light and Shadow, his tattoos foreshadow this).

Isnt a large part of the point of the legion that they're an immortal army in the sense that even if they're beat they come back because like the heroes of azeroth they can literally just respawn in the Twisting Nether? So it's enough that they come back in waves, no matter how many times they're beat back they can just come back for another attempt, slowly but surely whittling down any world.
@mrmister56097 ай бұрын
They only respawn if killed outside the twisting which is why demon hunters for example hunt demons in the twisting nether and why we went to argus to defeat the legion which also was part of the twisting nether by then

I'm not against emotionally charged questlines or ups and downs on the story but there's waaay too much of that as of late and not enough ''badass'' stuff, now they're focusing on ''balance'' and ''letting go'' and that's fine, but don't make EVERYTHING about that all the time, it gets tiresome and loses impact. Go back to the ''I am my scars and my destiny is my own'' blasting Xe'ra to pieces, you know what I mean?

On that argument, people want the War back in Warcraft, but this is also part of war. The regret, the healing, the tragedy. It's not just big guy big sword 24/7. DF was that "healing" period, this new trilogy looks to be the fall back into the ugly aide of conflict.
@Kross4158 ай бұрын
@@diode_wow Sure the aftermath of the war is also part of the war, but tell me it was well done and well writen in DF... go back and watch the Legion cinematic with Varian speaking about his fears and all that and tell me it doesn't hit way different than the cringe DF was.

It's not going to be the whole story in the Saga. This is the interlude, setting up the things that will flow inside the other action. There's plenty of kick ass going to happen, Xalatath, the Void vs the Light, and so much more is coming. Right now is the time to fall back and regroup, take a vacation between the wars,
@Kross4158 ай бұрын
@@charlayned Again, making a whole expansion like that is a mistake, it's boring and uncompelling, you're not going to sell to people telling them ''it's ok guys, it gets good on the 2nd and the 3rd'' all I'm saying is TWW has to be a lot less like DF in terms of narrative.

See what people miss with the softness of dragonflight. It being a tame expansion with no giant "Oh Shit!" moments. Is when they finally reveal the oh shit moment in the world soul saga it will feel that much bigger. You can't constantly 1 up your story moments bigger and bigger eventually you burn out the emotional well of your audience you need to bring it back to zero from time to time and build again.

10:44 It's Anduin's fault Calia is dead. Why on earth would anyone bring a usurper to a peaceful summit? Edit: Calia's death serves at least three story-telling purposes: A. It shows that Sylvanas is emotional and volatile. B. It shows that Anduin is inexperienced and naive. C. It shows that the art of Necromancy is not linked exclusively with Death Magic.

9:50 I don't think WoW is ever doing preemptive 5D chess. Just retroactive 5D chess. So for now we 100% defeated the burning legion... Until Metzen walks out on stage and goes "the legion is back. Bob'garus, the most power lieutenant, who was off somewhere else at the time, rallied the legion forces are once again headed for Azeroth". Or some nonsense like that. I don't think WoW goes that deep in the moment. All the side material and lore tries to reconcile whatever they managed to come up with.
