It’s not a revelation for me to say that Justice League, the 2017 movie, had a huge amount of production troubles; during principal photography, Zack Snyder and the executives over at Warner Bros began to noticeably disagree on the film’s story, themes and tone, with rewrites of the film’s script taking place mid-way through filming, Snyder ultimately was forced to leave the project during principal photography after a family tragedy, and extensive reshoots helmed by Joss Whedon aimed to ‘fix’ the movie in post-production. And with the failure of Justice League, it’s understandable that many fans began to wonder how the film would’ve turned out if Snyder had remained on board during the entirety of production, and Warner Bros remained committed to the director’s vision. So in this video, we’re going to discuss Zack Snyder’s original plans for Justice League and the larger DCEU, and attempt to uncover the larger story the filmmaker attempted to tell in his movies.

What was his original vision (not what he's saying now was his original vision) was filmed. Anything new he is filming for his new project is course correction. Anything that wasn't filmed wasn't intended to be in the original movie.

The Martian Manhunter scene, Green Lanterns scene, & Lois' death were never filmed in principal photography because those were only parts of Zack/Terrio initial script that was forced to be rewritten by WB before principal photography (not Whedon/Johns script rewrite) since they were in panic after the harsh critics of BvS. So Zack/Terrio had to rewrite the script to delete MM's appearance & Lois' death for they deemed it "too crazy" & had to save it for JL sequels, then proceed to pre-prod & principal photography.

Not everything will be under your control -- other writers, editorial mandates, and audience reactions are all part of how the sausage gets made. You can't expect that everything be strictly subject to one person's personal grand vision and then throw up your hands when that doesn't happen. Many of the most celebrated comic book writers are notable for how well they work within and around the confines of decades of existing lore written by others. Grant Morrison and Alan Moore are good examples.

My guess is that Part 1 ended with that shot of Superman (now freed from Darkside's control) holding Batman's corpse, Part 2 was about Flash fixing this mess, and the fifth movie most likely about the League taking the fight to Darkside. By the end of that, you have the complete Justice League (the six members we got plus Hal Jordan) inaugurating the Hall of Justice, with maybe a stinger of Luthor forming the Legion of Doom (in this new timeline, Luthor was never put in prison)

Snyder's JL would have been vastly better... #1 Snyder wouldn't have let Superman anywhere near the big screen with botched CGI..JL made Superman the laughing stalk of the internet. #2 ..Dialogue went from BVS: "That farmer's dream is all that some people have, it's all that gives them hope" to: JL : " Hope is like car keys" and "itchy" ... #3 We would have gotten Superman's iconic rebirth scene where he chooses his suit from the ship...in JL he just shows up with it. Just those known facts are solid evidence that Snyder's version is vastly better.

Nope: it was Man of Steel Dawn of Justice Justice League Justice League 2 Justice League 3 Fisher confirmed that Snyder planned a Justice League trilogy. Wonder Woman, The Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Shazam would've been just spin offs.

He doesn't have a cut that could be aired in theaters. His cut was essentially a mock up he did halfway into principal photography. It was four hours of raw footage with a bunch of placeholders laying out where the remaining scenes would go. A Snyder cut would be like a comic book with three or four completed pages and the rest is just a mixture of inks, raw pencils, and some instances of layouts pages the artist hasn't drawn yet.

This story makes me sad. Justice League could’ve been a great follow up to Wonder Woman and could’ve been something truly spectacular, but with WB panicking and the letting the production go haywire, the director lost the chance to make his movie ad we lost the chance to see something remarkable. From what I’ve seen, DC does look to be heading in a bright future. Aquaman was awesome and Shazam looks to be fun as hell, but it’s a shame that it will be a long time before we see the Justice League again, if at all.

WB's expectation of 1 billion dollar box office for each initial dc films is the main reason behind the justice league fail. But they forget that they are competing with much bigger company like disney who has very very large number of fans. So patience was needed and jl should be released with original snyder cut.

I didn't love Justice League, I liked it but it at times felt like I was watching two different films. I personally love Dawn of Justice and it got me excited for Justice League and what Snyder could do but even then it felt like WB was set on dealing with pretty much EVERY problem fans had with Dawn of Justice instead of seeing the project through. It was like they were taking a test and every time they looked around and saw that someone else was putting in even a slightly different answer they would change their entire answer.

I personally LOVED Justice League. I found it to be two voices struggling to be sure, but the more light hearted moments really connected with me and I loved the private moments between Bruce and Alfred as he explains we Superman would have made a better leader and the moment when Bruce and Diana have their heart to heart. I enjoyed the character interaction and the final showdown with Steppenwolf. I just wish it had a more singular tone and had been a tad more epic, but other than that, I loved the film and watch it once a month.

They should’ve given him at least a year to finish, but WB execs just needed those bonuses. If we never get the Snyder Cut, I’d take a graphic novel or an animated film just to see what it would’ve been. Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition is a fantastic film, so I have no doubt that Snyder’s Justice League would’ve been something special.

If there’s one plot point they can salvage from the theatrical cut, it would be the Legion of Doom tease at the end. And then just start fresh from there.

This was a pretty good and balanced video. You were on the right track on Bruce Wayne's arc in JL 2. Zack Snyder himself outright confirmed that the Final Crisis moment would have happened on Vero. Another important note is that Zack Snyder left Justice League after Principal Production completed. Principal Photography was completed in October of 2016 and Zack left in April 2017. So Zack did complete some of post production before his exit. Also a slight editorial note, Zack Snyder and Chris Terrio stated before BvS even came out that JL was going to be a lighter and more fun movie, so it was never going to have the same tone as BvS.

Bruce would have sacrificed himself after Barry goes back in time. Zack has noted they were going to show a half Cyborg, Flash, and Batman in the future trying to create a foruma to make time travel happen, in which they only had two windows to go back to, one of which being in BvS and another that had Barry go back to when Darkseid kills Lois in the Batcave.

Awesome series! Thank you so much for your impartiality. Subscribing and thumbs-uping.I I'm confused about all the Snyder hate. To paraphrase Perry White from BvS - This isn't 1978. The Super Friends aren't on TV. Christopher Reeve's idealistic Superman would have been labeled as cheesy camp much like the 3rd and 4th installments of the 80's/90's Batman movie series. Those two films were also heavily influenced by the WB to be "lighter." I couldn’t even begin to imagine how difficult it is, as a studio exec, trying to balance artistic vision and profit margins from the sales of licensed Happy Meals. I keep reading the complaints about how Snyder ruined the DCEU because they aren’t heroic enough, they shouldn’t be all gritty or solved things in a different way. Superman was barely Superman for about a month IIRC in Man of Steel when earth was hit with a super powered home terrorist attack. Batman had serious PTSD. His alcohol and prescription drug abuse were due to all those years of physical stress and injuries fighting super criminals in Gotham. Fans complained for years that their super heroes be taken seriously and then when it does get real they want Linda Carter and Adam West back (both of whom I love).

You said it, WB didn’t have an identity they committed to. With MoS and BvS they should’ve stuck to Snyder’s vision for better or worse and let it play out with the audience. With the end of JL part 2 and the apparent death of the Batman, it could’ve given a cinematic end to this version of the character and an opportunity to explore the aftermath in future movies and a possible Batman Beyond treatment. But they were so hellbent on competing with Marvel they forgot emulating is not success. With the death of Batman, it could’ve ushered in a new hope and future for the DCEU and subsequent movies could’ve had a tone more similar to Wonder Woman-solidifying it’s cinematic voice and giving audiences an alternative to the MCU formula.

For me what I really hated about this movie was the way the Flash and Lex Luthor were portrayed. My subconscious kept telling me that Lex Luthor was really The Riddler. And I don't know what the f*** who the f*** the flash was supposed to be.

Snyder's original plan was fine for the narrative of stories he was planning with a few exceptions. I think Snyder would of been game to change certain things as long as it didn't change or mess with his movies. He worked with Jenkins and Wan on their respective solo movies. So any other respective franchises stemming from MoS and BvS would of been fine. Doesn't anyone else feel the studio interference started with Suicide Squad? Watching and researching about the film suggests that it had a larger part of telling the story started in MoS and BvS. Even Ayer mentioned that the Steppenwolf invasion was at one time part of the film. In the end and I think many would agree, it was studio interference and a misaligned marriage of Whedon's and Snyder's directorial styles hurt Justice League's success during its theatrical run. Even now with so many asking for a Snyder cut of the film, atleast in my opinion, might hurt the DCEU going forward. I still want that Snyder cut though. Thoughts?

I saw the Snyder cut and it was a marked improvement over the theatrical release, but it doesn't change the fact that Zach Snyder thinks all Superheroes should be the Watchmen. His "gritty symbolism" is without hope and without the magic that the DC characters actually evoke. He killed Superman in his SECOND film and then treated it like it was 1995 again. This Superman hadn't been around long enough to earn the hero worship or make the kind of impact that Justice League would feel a need to replace. The reason the Snyder cut was better was it told a complete story without interference. That doesn't make it good, only better than the other one. He still doesn't deserve to EVER make another Superhero movie. Let him stick to zombie apocalypses. We need more Edgar Wrights and Jon Favreaus and dare I say it, James Gunns to make these movies. They get it. Zach doesn't.

Very good 3Pt.er Owen.. BvS came within $1 +1/4mill shy of a $bill.. If they had theatrically released the UltEd to begin with it would have easily cracked the $billion mark, plus leisurely well enough beyond.. I saw SS and JL only once.. no more PLEASE!.. Having repeat viewd MoS, BvS, WW (and so soon will be Aquaman) theatrically between 3-6(BvS) times, all are (UE) proudly inluded in our BluRay library.. Just awaiting Snyder's JL Cut, which after enough time has passed to still the waters, WB will green-light.. They're aware (though will never admit to not heeding the creative team's warnings) of their misteps and the tremendou$ demand for the Snyder Cut and the loss + they'll assuredly recoup

WB's first and worst mistake was to cut out half an hour of important footage from BvS and release it in theaters. They should have released the full three hours movie (Ultimate Edition) in the theaters without any edits. I'm pretty sure BvS would have done much better then.

Anymore uploads like this in the pipeline? Thought this was great👍 Despite some flaws I really liked BvS With the Casting of Lex my only big gripe. I enjoyed Wonder Woman and Aquaman respectively very much. I am a fan of Justice League 2017's Cast. We waited so long for the Live action JL and it turns out to be one of the most troubled productions in recent memory. In some bizarro world maybe The DCEU could just push on with better and more consistent leadership but with the Status of Affleck and Cavill to start with. Don't see it happening sadly as much as I want it What's done is done. I think the people at the Helm now will give us Consistently good DC Films (Hope so anyway). Just wish there was more Clarity on when we'll get to see another take on the JL. The one we deserve. We Must be patient I suppose

Look there's no denying that Zack Snyder blew it with Batman v Superman. Even if he made his movie I think those opening weekend numbers would still be what they were because of the bad taste people had in their mouths from BvS. Having said that, I hated everything they added in the reshoots of Justice League and while I don't blame Joss Whedon for doing his job as a hired gun, I sure as hell blame the studio. If this is true, Justice League could've been epic. Way better than what we got. And I'll never forgive them for how Batman was treated in that movie. They turned him into a punch line. Even if none of this was true, Warner Bros. still fucked up for thinking they could completely make a different movie during production. Which they set themselves up for by deciding to shoot right after BvS without giving time to see what the reaction was. It was a shit show by WB because of politics and financial bonuses and we the fans lost because of it. Fuck WB

To put it at the and, and being the most importan thing that influences all of dc's picturs are the toxic and agresive fans from marvel, that are documented bullies that aim to destroy every story that is opposite to their beloved marvel universe.
