The Miranda law requires police who make any arrest to inform the person that he or she has the right to remain silent, and that anything which he or she says can be held against him. Forcing her to sign a waiver when she was clearly a minor is a gross violation of the law. But the details of the script were made stronger to create the tension that every drama ought to contain according to the principles of dramatic play/storyline. These thirteen episodes are all well written, in my opinion. They omit certain details of the crime/accident/events at the opening of the show in order not to give away the resolution of the plot too early, since that would take away the suspense. But the denouement at the end, when all the details are revealed to the audience, is a brilliant example of dramatic irony.

@@72Yonatan But they never arrested her. Miranda Rights only apply when someone is arrested. They questioned her and got her to waive her legal rights and then interrogated her and took her words and twisted them into a confession which could be used as evidence to arrest her.
Jenny only apologized and said it’s her fault bc she knew she should of kept a better eye on the kid. Knowing the kid had been trying to climb

Yes! And I'm not sure if this was the entire episode or clips... Because I did not hear questions of the alarm going off questioned by either parties... It would have been in the log of the security system eliminating the base ball bat seen by the neighbor; pointing as wrong judgement from the first instance. Taking the investigation to another direction... Other cases are missing crucial details that are questionable too... Like I mentioned, not sure if this is an entire episode...

Don't blame the parents, blame the manufacturers of the book case for not putting a warning label on it. What child wouldn't want to climb a TREE, and make the top shelf their tree house. I would have poised this to parents. It not only relieves them of guilt, but they have a lawsuit if they wish to pursue it. The writers missed the ball on this one.

This case was a bit weak. I mean, there was no blood spattern in the room, there was no blood and hair on the baseball bat....the forensics was not there to prove her guilt. So how could the DA and the police be so convinced that the boy was killed with the bat? And the neighbour's 911 call was never followed-up, why she said she heard the babysitter arguing....anyway, besides these minor issues, the show was great!
@potocatepetl2 жыл бұрын
The police has no excuse. The DA though... The neighbour called prior to the incident (the call was followed-up by her lawyers and the woman said she heard her screaming at him and then saw her with a bat, she probably said the same thing to the police and DA), she called soon after the accident and said it was her fault, they had her testimony... Of course the DA considered her their main suspect. Not to mention that the cause of death could not be conclusively proven. A lot of people believed she was at fault even after she was acquitted.

This is (was) a well crafted procedural show, well written, well acted (main characters), and mediocre talent from some guest starring actors. Casting a 19-year-old actor, Mae Whitman, to play Jenny Marshal, age 15, (with a sophisticated hair do) was such a miscast. And, sadly, there were others.
@rosstuition2 жыл бұрын
I find it difficult to believe that a police force could possibly behave in the way portrayed in this series. The inhuman behaviour of both detectives and district attorneys is beyond comprehension. I find each episode entertaining but I sometimes get a little tired from suspending my belief.
@potocatepetl2 жыл бұрын
Now that more and more videos come out, it shouldn't be as difficult anymore. Hopefully these cases are rare, but they exist and always existed.

We want law enforcement to be enacted in an atmosphere and reality of fairness, with truth thoroughly established, as much as possible. We want our law enforcement personnel to work for the public to assure that fairness is omnipresent and truth is established for conviction. Policemen and women, just like you and me, at times allow their better knowledge and morals to buckle under pressure from others. And police are subject at times to incredible pressures. We're all human, no more, no less. I've wondered if police were only hired if they had advance degrees in psychology - would that clean up their decisions? Sometimes, perhaps. Anyone put in a position of power over others seems to lose control over their minds once in awhile, sometimes always. I would be overjoyed if police and politicians could hone their skills of SERVICE to the public rather than EXPLOITATION - for whatever purpose - of individuals and groups in society.

This last episode is so wrong. Interrogations on a minor is inadmissible in Courts and moreover the evidence is lacking. This series lacks originality and there are so many 'justice' issues where the writers and producers could focus and its not necessarily criminal law issues. No wonder this series became so unpopular that the networks in the US withdrew it before the season ended. How sad.
