Wow, just read some comments and I'm surprised for some of the directed hate at the pedal. As a background, I am a huge Justin and Tool fan (watched them live in Ozzfest , in Portugal, around 2002, one of the best gigs ever and then again in another festival in Portugal when they were touring 10000 days, can't remember the year). My personal bass sound is very similar to Justin's and I have been working on it before the brand Lusithand Devices even crossed my mind (since 2008!?). The base (i.e. starting point) for making this pedal was to combine a Turbo Rat style distortion with a "V" shape bass targetted EQ in order to get in the ballpark, oh, and added a clean blend. In the past I had achieved this by using a modded Turbo Rat and a Boss Bass EQ pedal plus a separate Blender pedal to blend in some of the clean sound. Because I, personally, target that type of sound (referring to Justin's tone) ,also have a bass that always uses fresh strings (Kalium nickel's) with a Filter preamp with the resonant peak sitting around the 2k region, on both pickups. I also play with a GK 1001RB head. My bass is tuned CGCF instead of DADG. Jean, not knowing much about the band Tool or the bass player in question (he told me about it when I approached him to do the video), wouldn't naturally try to emulate his sound, and I was ok with it. I also feared that mentioning the main ispiration behind the creation of this pedal could backfire if the demos weren't actually trying to emulate JC's tone. Every bass player who is also a JC fan and tone enthusiast, knows that you can't get someone's tone with just "a pedal", especially not a tone that is so complex and full of nuances. And that is also not what the pedal is trying to achieve. The pedal is just a part of the puzzle. The initial aim of putting two pedals into one (well, 4 actually, if one counts the clean blend and the 2:1 compression) has been achieved. I can, personally, get very close to his tone because I follow the same type of equipment from using a pick, to the pickups placement and type (using multicoils) as well EQ'g on the amp, etc...I know that if played flatwounds or cut the tone all the way down, or whatever, I wouldn't be able to get any type of tone similar to Justin's just by using the G&P (neither would Justin if using his gear and cutting all the tone on his instruments). Either way, I'm very happy with the demo that Jean has produced as it demonstrates the pedal for what it is, a great sounding bass distortion pedal which is what I've fought to achieve all my life. If you want to get Justin's type of distortion tone , it's there, provided you already have everything else covered up, and because it has been designed to be maliable, you can get way much more out of it. At the end of the day, everyone has the right to their opinion, and I must respect that. I can only hope that people would give it a chance and just try it out one day; you might be surprised. Kind regards to everyone and excuse me for the long testament, Nuno

I always loved the tones of Billy Gould in Faith No More, which has a similar high end as Justin and Paul D'Amour in Tool - and esp Billy and Paul's clanky tones had some warm fuzz in them as well to complement the clank. I use a Reiner Gasoline into a Peavey preamp(like what Billy used) and I hear those awesome tones in this pedal as well. So screw the uppity haters. Nice pedal! It's on my radar now as well.

The pedal sounds great, i really like how the distortion sits with the clean sound. For version2 - You could have a Tone knob for clean, a tone knob for the distortion. and a boost button for some extra dirt. Id already heard of this pedal a while back, so word is getting around. Cheers

Great comment…actually most people knows this, there are no magic recipes to emulate a tone either to find our own. These are just tools…so the pedal is doing its part. Hopefully they will be receive orders again soon.

Wow- this is a great-sounding pedal. you can clearly hear the two signal paths and a heavy dose of compression
@thewetterbass
@thewetterbass Жыл бұрын
Yes you can! But actually it’s not that much of a heavy dose of compression. The thing is that you hear it more the harder you play, and in some songs I dig hard into the strings… 🤓 otherwise it’s quite easy going.

Lusithand Devices should make a pedal version of their "FILTER" pre-amp. It's quite obvious. If you have a special instrument that you don't want to chop up. I'm down with that!

I know I can seem a bit obsessed with comparing gear, but what's your opinion about Ground&Pound vs Tremond?
@thewetterbass
@thewetterbass Жыл бұрын
The G&P has a more focused sound thanks to it’s compression and eq sound signature. The Tremond is wilder, a Rat with excellent low end control.

What is the story on that neck on your jazz bass? I have been looking for a long scale fender jazz or P. Is it just the ultra models available in long scale?
@thewetterbass

Hi! No it’s just a limited edition 22 frets with regular 34” scale. I believe there are no long scale (more than 34”) Fender jazz or precision bass models. But I could be wrong!

@thewetterbass
@thewetterbass Жыл бұрын
I do not have a preference. I love the Grind Machine for how wild it can get. It feedsback like no other pedal I own or tested. The Ground and Pound is somewhat more civilized, more “V shape” sounding and a great all in one pedal (mix, comp, tilt eq, boost, saturation device, etc…). So for pure versatility I’d pick this one, but for wilder stuff, the Grind Machine is awesome.
