I’ve been listening to this song for a about five years years now. Today I listened and I heard that lyric for the first time. I mean I really heard it and it blew me away, though he is completely heartbroken and he has this internal conflict he’s still happy she found love again and is happy and he was glad to play his part of being in her life for a while even though it was temporary. How can songs like these exist with such little recognition?! This song is an achingly brilliant open wound that is so honestly and authentically written that it's impossible not to feel the melody. As a songwriter myself I find it inspiring and disheartening at the same time that material this good can be as under the radar as it is. I know I'm a bit late to the party with this comment but I watched a documentary about mtv. They wanted to use Del Amitri as a marketing band as they were just starting to get really famous. They said that if they refused they would exclude the band from their channel and the band would be forgotten. Obviously Justin told them to fuck off.
