Loved it when I bought it in 1975 and still think it is in the top5 best albums ever . Sublime vocals, Bass, lyrics, arrangement and that beautiful soaring guitar of Justins has given me such joy over the years. What a time to be alive we have had.

Agree. My top 5 Would be this, Abbey Road, Dark Side of the Moon, Bad Company & So.... What an area to live through, eh? Bought all the albums as they came out...All the Moodies stuff is stunning. Barely a bad track on any album. Blessed were my ears... The production for the time is stunning as well. Gifted guys... and this track is sublime...

Listening with my wife of 40 years, we knew this music so well, long before we met. Neither of us have listened to it for 45 years. It’s just wonderful. We had awful upbringings, she badly treated, while I suffered from neglect. It changes you, but we were both also shaped and helped by beautiful music like this album. We both played it until almost worn out, hundreds of miles apart.

"Blue Jays" has always been a secret treasure of an album for me , so it's nice to see other folks have found it as well. To me, it's the purist musical distillation of what I loved most about the Moody Blues, Justin's melancholy and John's energy hatching beautiful songs to fly away in the twilight sky, always with a tinge of sadness and regret.The strings are warm and welcoming. John and Justin's vocals, alone or together, have never sounded better. The songwriting is more sophisticated, the arrangements are more complex than their previous Moodies work; the production is powerful without being overly bombastic ("Maybe" . . . maybe comes close). Everything from Beatles to Bacharach to Beach Boys to Broadway gets a nod here. It's so much like a Moodies album, but really so different in interesting ways. "You" gets you guessing what Beatles song Justin was listening to when he wrote it, but it's more than a copy - it takes off in it's own direction soon enough - you could almost consider this album an homage to pop music of the late 60's/early 70's. "I Dreamed Last Night" is really as good if not better than "Never Comes the Day." "When You Wake Up" is a fantastic album closer that leaves you with a happy vibe after all the heartache that precedes it. Now you might say the lyrics cover all the usual Moody topics (with many nights, dreams, children, eyes, more dreams scattered around), but Justin and John never sounded better singing them. You're left rightly wondering why they didn't make another album with this one being too good not to give it another go. I sort of think they spent the last sprinkles of the original Moody magic here, not that they wouldn't go on to create more fine music but not like this again.

This written January 30, 2024 - Wouldn't it be wonderful if Justin and John would tour together one last time before it is too late? Have heard John is willing but Justin, not so much. And John's recent health issue brings that even more to mind. Am anxiously waiting to hear if his spring 2024 tour will be rescheduled. Had the privilege of meeting him in Hartford CT back in 2020. A real gentleman.

Also I remember fluff that's Alan Freeman remember he played the The track "I dreamed Last Night " FROM THE BLUE JAY'S ALBUM on ONE OF HIS SATURDAY ROCK SHOWS HE SAID THE TRACK WAS BEAUTIFUL. Justin haywood with moody blues made some fabulous albums BUT DONT FORGET THE TRACK FROM JEFF WAYNES WAR OF THE WORLDS ,"FOR EVER AUTUMN "JUSTIN HAYWOOD WAS SINGING AT HIS BEST THERE ANDTHAT WAS NOT WITH THE MOODY BLUES.

Still sounds like Mike Pinder was still there. A gorgeous effort by the newest members of the band out on hiatus after absolutely phenomenal previous albums . Listen to Octave if you haven't. Octave is where their unique sound ends. Afterwards their sound succumbs to pop. Like Elton and Genisis. Pop killed rock , prog, and psych. Ps, get the cd if you want to hear Blue Guitar

That's because Michael Pinder left the band, after that their sound changed with Patrick Moraz. Never was the right fit in my humble opinion. Or the female backup singers they had, that diminished the band, I never understood why they did that - just to hit a few high notes.

Always felt this was the "next" Moodies album after "Seventh Sojourn." No knock to any of the other musicians playing on it, they do a terrific job, but I wish it had been all of the Moodies. Because, spiritually, it belongs in the canon as part of their collective work, even though I know that, technically, it's not.
@sososo24452 ай бұрын
So did Michael Pinder want to do an album with Justin and when John and Tony Clarke showed up - he said he didn't want to record with them? I guess there was a lot of drama and stuff going on with Octave, beyond their control, even with the weather. Too bad Mike gave up on England and the Moody Blues, he was such a huge part of the band and he was so English, his voice was great and musically with the mellotron and all his contributions. I really missed him when he left. Would have been nice to have an album with Mike and Justin to see what they would have come with. RIP Mike, you were amazing. I thought Seventh Sojourn was a great album and Mike had some great songs on there.
