An attempt to construct a fantasy mid-70s Moodies LP with the "classic 7" Tony Clarke-style cross fades. Just a fun little "what-if".
To be clear, this is all in fun. I'm just pretending this is a mid-70s Moodies LP. Not a big fan of the solo releases as whole albums, so this is a fun way to listen to the tracks I like. If you like it too, that's great!

Listening to OTTOAD and TOCCC for the first time with some fine smoke made me feel as though I was finally home after a very long time away. Thank you for this compilation. The Moodies are timeless and have gotten me through many hard times. I have seen them multiple times and would see Justin or John in a heartbeat.

Every now and then I come across a compilation like this that includes some material I had never heard before, and it is all good. The Moodies are my all time favorite band. So very glad Justin and John found their way to become members. I can not imagine what other music would have captured my attention if not for the Moody Blues. Saw them live some twenty five or so times from 1978 to the final residence at Las Vegas in 2018. Still see Justin and John solo when they are nearby. Met John at show in Hartford CT in early 2020. R.I.P. Ray and Graeme.

I think a lot of the Moody’s songs are very fitting to be used in motion picture soundtracks - they have a very emotional quality to them that would grab you even more in the right movie scene. In addition to that, their music would be introduced to younger audiences.

You really worked to get this together, and it flows wonderfully. Good man. Bless each and everyone connected to this, and keep that CAB (crazy a__ed bit__) from bothering anyone or anything to do with this effort. Their music kept me half way sane in Pusan Korea, in 1969-1970 where i was blessed to go after being drafted in 1968 . It beat the hell out of 5 of my graduation class of 1966 that were killed in Viet Nam I guy in our MP unit was nice enough to allow a lot of us fellows to tape his 33 and a third albums onto an Anki full reel tapes. I fell asleep many nights having has to much to drink with my headphones and the tapes still running, when the fire watch came by. I wish I could remember what this name was, look him up and think him. their music was magic for me. .

Read an article over two years ago interviewing them and they said flat out they had no interest in creating any new music, they were done. I was sad to read that, seems they are now locked into just touring their catalog. It might have to do with how few folks actually buy new music these day and artists make very little from streaming services. Some bands do not recoup the cost of recording and producing a new release.

I was introduced to the Moodies in 1972 and been listening faithfully ever since. 'Blue Guitar' sums up so much about this band for me. Nice album art too! A nice compilation. I have some of the solo albums from that time, and this has reminded that I ought to dig them out. It's also made me think about having another look at the solo albums I didn't bother with at the time, particularly Natural Avenue (hey I didn't have much disposable income aka 'pocket money' at the time). I had to laugh at some of the comments telling the poster not to meddle in Moodies music. He/she puts 'fantasy LP' in the title. The link popped up after I'd been listening to "Children's Children". If others have followed this same path it might have provided an introduction for them (rather than the reminder I got). Nice one, "beatcrazy180"!

One night I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night turned on the radio (FM, of course) to hear the tale end of the disc-jockey say "...and in its entirety, here is Jeff Wayne's (?) double album War of the Worlds" Unbelievable!!! As I was able to hear 'Forever Autumn" that very late night/early morning in Madison, WI back in 1978 or 1979. (Probably one of the few albums I didn't ever own...) LOL

Awesome job! Dedicated hard work from a real fan! However, some constructive criticism is required in order to stimulate further improvement of the album. Summer Breeze, Blue Guitar, Carry On, Who Could Change and Friends are not Moody Blues style compositions and sound out of place next to the other excellent choices made here. I can't believe that you past over songs like "Adam And I", "Message", "Nostradamus" or "Remember Me, My Friend" which sound more like they belong on this Moodies Album! But everyone has their own likes and dislikes and choosing mostly the best songs from each of their solo albums shows us WHY they were such a great combination of personalities! Each one supports the other like a jigsaw puzzle. When you get the right group of people together, magic happens!

I think that "Adam and I" is one of Ray's very best songs, so I wish it was a part of this.

It's a wonderful concept thoughtfully and creatively arranged and complied. You are far too modest about what you've created. I love it, it's gorgeous, it's magical. Well done friend.

I support your idea Beatcrazy. I did the same by inventing a band called Goddess some years ago. Their "discography" consisted of Crimson, Genesis, Yes, Caravan, Van der Graaf, crazy!

This is not "The Promise" which is an album by Mike Pinder. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYS8mqajeM6LZ5Y) Not sure where this came from but it's a nice compilation, perhaps not the best choice for a name.

As we all know the title The Promise is the title of Mike Pinder's solo album. The image used looks remarkably similar to that used on John Lodge's solo album Natural Avenue.

That's what I said and then noticed your comment: The Promise is the name of Mike Pinder's solo album, released when the other band members recorded their solo music during the moody blues "hiatus" after Seventh Sojourn was released, which was almost shelved, apparently when there was a bit of friction within the band. So this seems to be Pinder's album, with blue jays and other rare moodier tracks. Nice mix, as it looks like you selected the better Pinder tracks. Did you use a roger dean art and add your own title?

beatcrazy180 - This is much, much better than your other attempt at a mid-70s fantasy album (Children of the Ever-Guiding Light). I agree with many of your choices on this one. Thank you for your efforts.

It is indeed the John Lodge album cover. Just as I used existing songs from those albums I used artwork as well. Plus used the name of the Mike Pinder album. It was basically an exercise in using what existed of each member's work in the '70s to try and bring it together as if it were a band project. All in fun... :-)
