My cousins husband was killed by a drunk driver. He was driving home from work, he taught night school at the local college. A woman had been drinking ALL day and night at a bar. She hit him head on. It was one of the saddest funerals that I have ever been to. I was 10 years old and remember it like it was yesterday. My cousin had just found out she was pregnant with their first ( and sadly, only) child. My cousin was inconsolable. I promised myself that when I got older, IF I ever did drink , I would never get behind the wheel of a car. And I kept that promise. I actually stopped drinking altogether 10 years ago. Get a ride. Don’t get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have been drinking. That bad choice can cost people their lives!

Last Wednesday I was rear ended by a drunk driver while I was sitting behind a row of cars that were stopped at a red light. Three lanes of cars all stopped and the guy plows right into me. Once I came out of shock and got out of my car I could smell alcohol coming from him and he was clearly wasted to the point where I think it was more than just alcohol. You always think it will happen to someone else until you become the one that happens to draw the short stick that day. It’s not worth killing someone.

It’s interesting and I don’t think others have take a note is the clear fact that in the Hamptons law enforcement enforces the law. They appear not to be soft on DUIs. While in less fortunate communities, law enforcement is almost nonexistent. And if they do patrol, etc., they often look the other way and pick and choose what to enforce how to enforce, etc. This is only the police departments, it’s political leaders of those communities and, AND the residents demanding law-enforcement enforce the law in their posh communities.
