There is no electoral college here, which means the exact same areas decide the outcome. (Think Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City, which are at least in three different time zones.) We also don't directly elect the PM, which means our one vote is all or nothing. Only a first-place finish matters. The elected official can leave any time before the next election, in which case there is a by-election. This effectively restarts the process and makes it nearly impossible for particular seats to change hands.

We all know the blame here for the separation falls on the conservatives. The Trudeau's had to flee their home and go into hiding at the height of the Convoy occupation in Ottawa and the stress this had to have caused on their marriage, having to live under constant security protection as the result of the far right terrorists. The threats on her family are the reason for the break up and Canadians will in turn punish the convoy organizers and by association the conservatives. They will side and sympathize with Justin. To make maters worse the Convoy organizers trials are coming up, conservatives will have to break support or face the consequences of tying themselves to the terrorists, and the fact is everyone knows that Pierre marched with the terrorists on the Canada Day weekend in 2022, he even supported blocking the bridge. Every time Justin holds an event and some unhinged protesters make a scene it will reinforce the belief the conservatives are to blame. The conservatives are in big trouble here unless they can find a leader with charisma that can separate themselves from the Convoy far right types or it will be another four more years of Justin. The whole world is covering this story, the media and the women are going crazy over this. Imagine if Justin goes on a date five months from now, the whole world will want to know everything, her name, what does she look like, how did they meet, etc. No such thing as bad press here, Trudeaumania all over again and the Conservative Party of Canada better figure out that Pierre losing his glasses and wearing Justin's wardrobe is not charisma!
