The fact that most of his subscribers don't even know he's in a band says alot about him. He almost never even mentions it on his channel. Most other KZbinrs would be shoving it in your face like crazy.

He recently went on tour and gave an update about it and put out a series of videos in a "tour" format with only images and VO
@Eucis932 жыл бұрын
He does mention it but does it very ’tastefully’, if that makes sense. Like he has their songs and some tour dates and stuff in the endcard sometimes. But you can definitely tell he’s one of those who does youtube separately for fun, rather than as PR for a band or product. On a similar note, I probably watched DickeyDines for over a year without knowing either of them were in a band because they truly never mention it. I don’t tend to follow everyone on all social media though so I guess I only have myself to blame for not knowing things lol
@jenl70942 жыл бұрын
I figured he was probably in a band or just jammed with his buddies because of the guitars you can see in his videos, but seeing this makes him so much cooler. And he already seemed like a super chill cool guy you’d want to hang out with. Love his YT channel. I died when he mentioned it at the beginning as the place where tell stories about people cumming on things. Right on brand for Whang!

That extra finger "pinch harmonic" reminds me of how I learned fingerstyle pinch harmonics on bass - laying the thumb perpendicular to the string, barely touching, while plucking with the first finger like normal. It's essentially like a natural harmonic played over an imaginary 39th fret or something.
@Staminist-MMF-802 жыл бұрын

I use my middle finger instead of choking up on the pick and I've been doing it that way for 16 years lol. It's kinda like "pinching" the string in between my pick and middle finger so that I'm touching the string where my thumb would anyway, and tbh it sounds so much cleaner than when I do it the "correct" way.

@adamrasmussen99392 жыл бұрын
I usually (try to) describe doing pinch harmonics like doing a 'palm mute' but just with the very small bit of skin on the thumb of your picking hand that doesn't touch the string when playing normally, but you kind of pick the note with the pick and that little bit of thumb skin simultaneously. You might have to move your picking hand around a little bit to different areas on the string to get the desired squeals out of it. Its one of those things that once you've done it well a time or two, you will develop the muscle memory for it, pretty quickly.

Guitar Bros! Pinch harmonics are no mystery & it's probably the name that confuses everyone. The most basic directions I can give you: choke up on the pick so that only the very tip of the pick is exposed, pluck the string with a downstroke & sorta dig into it so that you thumb grazes the string as you follow through with the downstroke. Try plucking the string between your humbuckers but just a little closer to the neck pickup. Try plucking in different areas as the pinch harmonic sorta moves based on what string & fret you're using but closer to the neck pickup seems to be the sweet spot. If you want to understand how a pinch harmonic works then pluck any open string & let it ring. Now quickly take your finger & lightly touch that string at the 12th fret harmonic just enough to change the open note into the harmonic, then pull your finger away. That same phenomenon happens when your thumb grazes the string during the pinch harmonic but at a much faster rate so that it sounds like a single singing note. Now, remember how there are artificial harmonics closer to the nut, like at the 3rd fret or at 2.3 or whatever. Those same harmonics are mirrored at the 12th fret on the other side of the string but that mirror moves every time you fret a note. If you pluck the 6th string 1st fret (F note) the 12th string harmonic would now be at the 13th fret & so on. That's why the pinch harmonic is elusive as the sweet spot moves depending on where you are fretting. I think the confusion in the name is that you are somehow pinching the string but really what you're doing is sorta pinching the tip of the pick to get your thumb close enough to get that sweet ass squeal.
@quvicojones2 жыл бұрын
Pinch harmonics are normally done with your thumb grazing the string after you pick. My teacher said he would do it with his index finger, but I can't remember how to do it. I think Whang is trying to say he played a one handed harmonic? You can place your index finger over the string and pluck with your thumb anywhere a harmonic is found, even around the pickups. This is also how you make artificial harmonics.
@nyuckkamoments122 жыл бұрын
Sometimes normally on the highe or b strings i'd accidentally catch a string with my index on an upstroke and get a pinch harmonic on the high strings

Pinch harmonics - exactly as it says, pinch! You pinch the string the moment you strum, that is how i try to explain it + show it, ofc :D
@legacyShredder12 жыл бұрын
Pinch harmonics: Pluck the string with your pick while letting your thumb touch the string. It shortens the string from the fretted note to the note you plucked causing an artificial harmonic..
