My Grandad taught me how to use his moulding plane, which I've always used. It does need a bit of skill and effort and does have some limitations, so I've had a hankering for a router. Now I have a job rebating the edge of some flooring in-situ in a doorway which really would be difficult with just hand tools so I need to take the plunge (!) and get up to speed (!) with a router. Many thanks for this introduction, it has helped greatly. By the way; one further tip, if I may suggest, for using a power tool on a cable; check the wire has enough slack and is not going to pull tight as the tool is moved through the working stroke, or worse get pulled into the cutter. Rehearse the move.

Advice for newbies, just like a saw, it is safer to not move the router until it stops spinning, plunge routers are beneficial for this ability. Fixed base and stopping- he laid it with moving bit facing him, I would advise laying it outward. This is why a clean space is best. A on/off pedal is a great add.

Had a brand new Bosch router sitting in its box in my cabin for weeks until yesterday on a very hot day trying to flip between pages of the manual until my brain stopped functioning 😢 I got as far as fitting the bit and most components together, got up very early this morning and found your tutorial, brilliant thank you now I can play around on some reclaimed oak panels I bought from a great timber supplier and can’t wait till 10 am to start making a noise 😂

Hi Justin, great Vid. I`m sure you know this but just in case, the first demonstration what you shown where you use the Router on the flatside up against your Guide. You can do it that way, but then, you always have to push against your Guide and keep it straight for the whole cut. If you where to use the Curve on the Router against your Guide, your Line will be Perfectly straight without worrying to keep it flat on the Guide. If by any chance you didnt know this, try it out. 👌🤟

I got a second hand Metabo router. Hope to use it soon. I must say that those woodworking tools give fantastic opportunities but I find them scary as I learned I'm not the most lucky guy.
