Thanks man I really appreciate that. I respect everyone doing this but also think people from abroad should see our landscape more. It's definitely different than the rest and needs to be exposed for tripping because of that. Such a unique challenge. The AWR is a very cool remote wilderness experience so close to SJ. And hardly anybody goes into the heart of it. If you're ever looking to go on a haul drop me a line and maybe we could connect. Cheers buddy, great talking!

@@JustinBarbournlexplorer I could easily write a book about my many adventures but I can anecdotally describe my experience teaching in Shamattawa, Manitoba. I was hired to acculturate and was not to start teaching until my school house was built which was not even started and was ready for occupancy. I taught grade 9 and that was the highest grade at that time. In the meantime I landed on the tarmak along with my colleagues to be greeted by a group of hung over locals pillaging some stuff that the Hudson Bay left in the wee hours of the night. I asked the pilot to hold on as I was experiencing a bit of culture shock and at that point was ready to get on board but one of the newly hired teachers, Bruce Moore, who of Bahai faith and his wife convinced me to give it a shot. The next day, while walking about I saw an elderly Cree carrying firewood up from the river which he rafted down the river. It was a 20 foot embankment up a narrow path to get the charcoal covered turnpikes up to the top and without giving it a second thought I offered my assistance. He didn't say anything but I took that as a yes and I spent the remainder of the day lugging several cords of wood up to where he could cart them to his home. As the day progressed some elders stopped and chatted among themselves which I ignored. At the end of the chore, Alex, the indian who owned the wood, invited me to come with him on his trapline. I eagerly said yes and we were off up the river the very next morning. His canoe, an 18 ft. Norway House cargo was powered by a 9 hp. and was not very fast but I wasn't interested in speed. As soon as we left to up the Echoing River, I was captivated by the beauty of the place. Huge sitca spruce towered over the river and with every turn there was something new. I lit my pipe and anticipating that Alex would want some so I gave him a pipe and a pouch of tobacco. Well you wouldn't know that he had a million dollars. I will skip a lot and get to the good stuff but on our first night camping he choose a high embankment on the fork of the Echoing and Sturgeon Rivers. We got a nice fire going and made a soft bow bed then we bunked her down for the night. I noticed that Alex had his rifle next to him and upon asking about this he replied that you never know what might pay a visit during the night. About 2 o'clock a pack of wolves started howling about a half mile across the river. Alex was awake and told me what each member of the pack was up to by the howl or yelp. The alpha wolf had a deep howl while the subordinates were yelping and were shallow. Then they were getting closer until they were not far from us. Suddenly there was a rush of water and a commotion and Alex said that they were after a moose and forced the animal across the river. The wolves were going up and down along the river bank and didn't cross right away. Alex said that they were in no hurry and were looking for a good place to cross. The wolves finally did cross just upstream from our location at which time they got our scent and we didn't hear from them after. The next morning though when we broke camp, we saw a large cream colored wolf sitting on the river bank upstream from our locatioin and Alex quickly dispatched the wolf. We stopped for a mug up while Alex skinned the wolf. He said it was most likely the Alpha judging from its size which to me was huge. Anyway that was just the beginning of a two week experience loaded with adventure. I can go on but I digress at this point. I really should write a book about this. We got in a real pickle which was potentially a life threatening situation where according to Alex, I saved him from an uncertain fate.
