I watched the Tony Hawk, Gordon Ramsay, Niel Tyson, and Chris Hadfield masterclass series. At the end I appreciated what they accomplished a lot more than before, however none of these individuals provided the technical skills required to get after it. Masterclass is good for mindset and is a nice entertainment tool, but useless otherwise if you ask me

What you wrote there explains the whole "personal development" bubble/industry perfectly. But they don't want you to know that. They want you to believe, that this book or that online class is a big leap towards your goal. When in reality, getting a university degree or becoming a fighter pilot would be the big leap.

No one can do things exactly like another. Copying someone's artistry isn't how one "make it". Masterclass is definitely for artist who knows how to take inspiration and make it their own. Thanks for the review!
@JustinBrownVids4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes it's important not to completely copy but make things you're own.
@waaagh32034 жыл бұрын
I kind of disagree. You always start out copying your inspirations when you're learning to do anything with art, whether that's writing or painting or music. You develop your own style once you have experience, but until then, you have to start somewhere.
@growingmelancholy83743 жыл бұрын
@@waaagh3203 Indeed and Masterclass is about entertainment, not about actually developing yourself. Take a real fucking class or learn on your own with countless free resources out there if you want to actually learn.

But These are not professional teachers. They are best professionals in their fields but not teachers. This makes a huge difference in learning. It's like hiring Beethoven to teach a child piano. It wouldn't go well for the child. Always have to hire the teacher who is well versed in the subject, and not the one who's mastered their professional skills but can't teach well. A great teacher can see what students see and feel with deep empathy and then work with and around that. Thank you for the video. It helps me to understand Masterclass.

DO NOT USE THEM. I purchased a single program and they charged me annually! Somehow in their FAQ's there is some small notice about how this becomes recurring. ( I didn't need your FAQ as I purchased one and ONLY one program). Conveniently their auto notices go straight to spam. They have some hidden notice about a recurring charge for double what I paid for and that of course is not obvious. This is shady and such a disappointment from a company like this. DISGUSTED.

I think he summed it up excellently by thinking of this as an inspirational alternative to Netflix. That resonates with me a lifelong learner who's not always in the mood to sit through a lecture taking notes, or to sit and watch mindless entertainment. Good middle offering (if they come down on that price).

It seems like they copied the model of TrueFire-for learning guitar. TrueFire has been going for about 35 years. Man, your background music has got to go. A tip from a former Film Scoring major at Berklee College of Music, music doesn’t go over dialogue.

I very recently took the $180US plunge and ordered the all-access subscription. The main hook for me was Neil DeGrassy Tyson, but I also had interest in hearing from successful people in other areas of accomplishment. I'm retired so not really looking to get help on my vocation. I agree with what Jason said about the series, but for some reason, whenever I read something about it, someone always ends up trying to sell it to me. I don't say this to disparage Jason, but it seems odd to me.

I dont understand how this class is any different from a book they wrote or a show they do regularly. Every non fiction audiobook can be considered a masterclass. I guess if it's all of their information compiled, then I guess there is an intrinsic value to it. Like buying a band's greatest hits album.
@korratheaustralianshepherd58042 жыл бұрын
It's a mindset class not a technical skill class. You'd honestly be better off reading a book as it will help develop the skill of focus which is a far more valuable tool than watching a video you could effectively get for free from a joe rogan podcast. It's just a cinematic entertainment piece

My problem with this is the guitar teachers are Tom Morello and Carlos Santana. Both average. Are these lessons designed for the beginner or can an advanced person learn anything? If you’re already good at these subjects will these videos have anything to offer or is it just entertainment for the lazy and uninspired?
