This is one of the most popular Home Free songs. It was the first song I ever heard from Home Free & I was instantly hooked. It really showcases the talent of these 5 men (their tight harmonies, Tim Foust's bass & Adam Rupp's incredible beatboxing). They are my favorite a cappella group. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.

I consider “no theatrics” as a compliment. They are smashing songs with low key costumes and mostly outdoor locations. There is a reality to most of their performances, that is very engaging. Of course it’s artificial, but it’s less artificial than some groups. For wedding vibes, “Yours” slays me every time.

Most do this song as one of the first from Home Free and are immediately amazed at how good they are . And yes they are incredible. This cover rises far above the original. Here's another explanation who and what: Although they are a Country A-cappela group, they can really sing all genres. They really all have great voices with their own specialties. Even Adam Rupp who started the group with his brother Chris Rupp. Chris left the group in 2016 to go solo but also to start other projects with his sister, among others. Adam Rupp-Beatboxer but is actually an inhuman freaking good mouth artist. Tim Foust- Deep bass but also as a tenor and everything in between is possible. Austin Brown-High tenor with his great runs and high notes. Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses)-Tenor, with a voice like velvet and so much soul. Adam Chance (back left, who is called Chance) - Baritone/ Bass, a voice so smooth and sexy. And who here also makes the Jaw harp sound. There is not a permanent lead singer in Home Free, but they look (listen) at every song whose voice suits it best. The best harmony, no egos, no rivalries, great personalities etc. Besides, they can all beatbox (see their live performance 9to5). ..

The original was first recorded around 1915, a very old Folk song, then called “The Goodbye Song “, or “The Farewell Song “. You may catch the line about riding that Northern Railroad. The song is of a slave bidding farewell to all he knows and loves, before risking everything to run for freedom. Kind of brings another dimension to the song.

Now it’s time for a Chance lead. My favorite is “I Can’t Outrun You”- 5 part harmony, hauntingly beautiful, and Chance directed the video. For more 5 part harmony, “Helplessly Hoping”- it’s gorgeous. For a Tim lead, and some fun, “Champagne Taste(on a beer budget)”. Tim also wrote it. Another fun one is “Butts Remix “.

This was first published in Dick Burnett in a blind fiddler from Kentucky in 1913 originally titled The Farewell song.Emery Arthur recorded a version in 1928 and gave it it’s current title. But it became well known from the move Oh Brother Where Art Thou. The harmonica sound Adam does we call it his Nomonica. If you like love songs I would recommend Stargazer Trilogy is’s all originals by Austin Give Me A Sign (Chapter 1) Stargazer Lilies (Chapter 2) MR (Chapter 3) For something completely different from Home Free. It’s not completely A Cappella A lyric video Chance wrote and took lead on called Skull And Bones. Ubisoft approached them with a great opportunity to write a shanty for Skull And Bones video game they are releasing soon. They also sang a shorter version at Ubisoft Live Premiere. It’s beyond epic

Love Home Free. Yeah Adam can do the harmonica and when live Austin (lead here) joins him and does harmonica too. They can all beatbox to a degree. Chance, back left, was doing the “mouth harp” sound. Tim can go really low and then sing high. Boys can really sound good. Try Die a Happy Man (it would be good for a wedding too), Yours, Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood. 🥰😍

Home Free doesn't need a lot of added "stuff". They are totally mesmerizing just standing still and singing. They do have some videos where they "dance" (not their superpower, but we love them for trying anyway) and some that are quite hectic (the funny ones which others have already recommended below.) One of my favorites that really highlights Adam Rupp's talent is their cover of the Doobie Brothers' iconic Listen to the Music. Absolutely fabulous. And sort of at the other end is their cover of Helplessly Hoping - a master class in 5-part harmony with no percussion at all. I'm here for your journey through their entire catalog.

Some reactors are of the opinion that "5 guys standing in a field" (or swamp) is a boring video in spite of the fantastic music. But HF's videos are great whether they are simple or full of theatrics - and they have both kinds. There are quite few videos where you really need to close your eyes to really appreciate the music, but the music never disappoints. Enjoy the HF rabbit hole. and I'm afraid that along the way you will find that they have artists they have collaborated with that you will want to investigate, too. Jeffrey East, The Hound & The Fox, and Peter Hollens for a start.

New Sub for Home Free This is a very old song. The bluegrass group, the Stanley Brothers did a cover of this. Home Free have some great colabs with Kenny Roger's, The Oak Ridge boys, Lee, Greenwood, Don McLean, and Alabama. Check out Brothers in Arms, Listen to the Music, and In the blood. Check out Brothers
