A quick note! I did *not* wash this canvas before stretching it on the frame. Once the primer goes on, the fabric (if it hasn't been pre-shrunk), will shrink up and pull tight across the frame giving you a nice tight surface to paint on. If you enjoyed this video, let me know in the comments and let me know what you'd like to see next! :) xo J

Best tutorial I’ve found on KZbin yet! Clear, concise and I don’t need a whole wood shop of special tools! The explanations for why you did things a certain way was also so helpful and informative. 🙏

very helpful. thanks. . You're the first of a few videos I have watched that suggested a. beveling the edges and b. recessing in the middle cross piece. BTW, will use a file to bevel mine. Also, others have advised using a horizontal support piece in the middle for larger frames but hoping the corner pieces will solve that.

Justine you are an angel 😇 😇 Thankyou so much for your video. I work at a school, and have being given a task of painting a big painting that I cannot get a canvas big enough..live in a Small town.. NOTHING AVAILABLE!! But next town is one and a half hours away and I'll be tripping there for some supplies and some macca's

happy to help! I just used a dropcloth from home depot. It definitly has some imperfections, but it gets the job done!

Great video. Thank You very much! I am curious, could you paint on these drop cloth canvases, would multiple layers of gesso work?
@JustineSilva2 ай бұрын
Yes! i primed mine with multiple layers of gesso. There are definitely some imperfections in the canvas, so I'd recommend purchasing canvas from Joanns or Blick!

Cool - I never knew how that was done. And I was wondering how you'd get it taught enough - I didn't know about gesso. Thanks.

I don't have the space, tools or time to make this. Is there someplace where i can buy big canvases for an affordable price?

Sometimes Marshall’s/tj maxx has big canvas art, I’ll just paint over the image 🙂

I hope you're still making videos!!! Such cool stuff! Can you do more dying videos? Like about different dyes and fabrics and the like?
@JustineSilva7 ай бұрын
I've been super busy with "real life work," but as soon as things slow down I'll start making more videos. I can make some more dyeing videos for sure :)

Where can you buy a canvas that large that’s not super expensive?
@lindalary77609 ай бұрын
So you don’t need to pre wash the canvas? Love this video ❤👏
@JustineSilva9 ай бұрын
I like to let it stretch on the frame itself so it makes it tighter and easier to paint on. I'm getting better at editing, but I should have mentioned it earlier in the video - because for most other projects, I would prewash, but not this one! Thanks for watching! :)

Do a video of making a frame for the 4x5' canvas makers, show off those router skills, i'd wager you have.

Haha I just moved and didn't get my router out of storage til a couple weeks ago. Maybe i'll make an update... 🤔

how thick was that canvas?

My canvas was the Heavy Duty dropcloth from Home Depot. It has a lot of imperfections, but I wanted a simple canvas to play around on. You can get better quality from Blick!

perfectly and properly stapled the canvas... gosh I have seen people who just keep on stapling it from either one side or will staple 2 opposite sides... just one extra tip, do a double staple one over another on corners... its bulky at the corner, sometimes due to the bulk, staples usually just comes out
@JustineSilva9 ай бұрын
Yes! I definitely threw a few extra staples on the corners to make them stay! I must have cut that clip out. Thanks for watching :)

Do you think this is cheaper than buying? Actually, I just realized that it's probably cheaper if you want a ginormous canvas!
@JustineSilva7 ай бұрын
Craft stores have some pretty great deals on canvases in smaller sizes, but if you're looking for XL or want to use a different type of fabric, this is a great option. Large professional art canvasses can be $300+ so it's a great way to stretch a buck!
