bonus fact for the 64 strat, the album version of Slow Dancing was recorded on the middle pickup rather than the neck/middle that were used to hearing live and in covers today

The PRS that he plays can’t be a McCarty 594 Hollowbody, since the 594 famously only came out after John already had left Fender and the way Paul combined vintage specs with modern playability on the 594 impressed him so much that that’s also where the idea for the silver sky came from. So should just be regular old McCarty Hollowbody

You’re right. The 594 has a Tuneomatic style bridge. You can see the one John is playing is just a stop tail so will be a regular McCarty. And as you correctly pointed out the 594 didn’t exist at that point.

#1 most of his tones are not the Silver Sky. Yet everyone buys one. He's used Strats and Es guitars far more than silver sky. He has never replicated "Where The Light Is" concert tones since he switch to PRS. His 64' strat is the nicest sounding guitar, hands down

John used a PRS hollowbody on Stitched Up with Herbie Hancock in 2005. So it’s pre-Continuum era. There’s even studio footage available on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKTaY2ioiJyeqsU Every time he performed the song live he used that same PRS.

How do we know the burgundy mist Mayer sig wasn't just a fender custom burgundy mist body with a JM sig neck on it. The burgundy mist body has some relicing and I'm sure all of the Mayer SIGs were poly. So how would a poly guitar relic like that. Unless it's him having a mad scientist moment and testing out a neck on a different body. Might have just been an in the moment thing. Like how Clapton put a strat neck on a Tele. Maybe the neck on the burgundy neck broke and he put a replacement neck on. Not sure but just thought I'd say
@JustinJeske

Oh it’s 100% possible! That’s why I said it was a prototype, could have just been to test the neck out, but still technically a prototype!

I guess he didnt use black1 straight away because he said in an interview about the black1 that it didnt sound right so he placed it in his freezer (he had a fridge that was one third a freezer on the left side so thats how he could fit his guitar in a freezer). m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX2wn4qurJaEpsk

He didn’t play a 594 hollow body in the battle studies era. That guitar didn’t exist then. It was simply a Hollowbody McCarty. Not a 594. Come on man, if you’re going to purport yourself an expert and tell the world what they don’t know about Mayer at least get the facts right.
@JustinJeske
@JustinJeske Жыл бұрын
Erik I’ve already replied to another one of your comments highlighting a mistake in one of my videos. I’m not 100% accurate, no one is. I’m not an expert on the history of every pedal and guitar company like you clearly expect me to be. If you think you can do better than me I encourage you to do so. If I wasn’t doing a good job I wouldn’t have been a guest on 5 Watt World or have had people like Josh Scott tell me I’m doing great work. But ya know, keep dogging on me so for only having what is probably a 99% accuracy rate.
@Faded0811
@Faded0811 Жыл бұрын
I don’t have an expectation that you’re perfect in every area, obviously no one can meet that standard. But you do position yourself an expert…enough to tell folks what they get wrong. In which case you should probably be right. Anyway, you do make really good content. But it could and should be better. You do the research and put so much time into it, that’s obvious. But if you’re making niche content at least nail the nuance.

Not a fan of John, You have this wrong, Black strat wasnt used cos the earth wire fell out, Sounded crap, He had it checked over before throwing it out, He couldnt gell with it, His guitar tech found the wire had fallen out giving it a crappy tone, Try again on this, If I am correcting you, Your research is miles off... The Ground Issue Upon receiving the guitar, John was disheartened to learn that it just didn’t sound as good as he expected. Frustrated by this and not knowing what to do, he even placed the guitar in a freezer overnight hoping for some kind of a miracle to happen. As that obviously proved to be of no help, he opened up the guitar and learned that the ground wire wasn’t hooked up. [John Mayer - The Story of The Black One]
@JustinJeske
@JustinJeske 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and that happened immediately when he got the guitar… he still didn’t use it for a very long time after that whole thing had happened and the guitar had “come to life”. So if you’d actually had listened to what I said, you’d know I wasn’t referring to why he wasn’t happy with how it initially sounded, but the length of time after that for it to become his number one.
