@@GYMGUYFE if i could ONLY have one... it would be the power wagon. I need to tow about once or twice a month WAAAY more than the JL can handle. and the power wagon has done everything the jeep has, and done it more comfortably. only exception is the super skinny trails, i'm not quite used to wheeling the massive truck on the tight ones, i've marked up the paint a bit.

Justin, oil changes. Break the filter loose and then cover it with a 1gal zip lock bag, then unscrew it off the motor. It will not catch 100% of the oil, but it will catch quite a bit, then just zip the bag shut and put it in the trash. Easy.

Love hearing a Ford guy converted to Ram. I just traded my F150 5.0 that I’ve been driving for almost 7 years and loved for my new PW. Dealership was 2 hours away and driving the PW home I fell in love with it. Best decision! Thanks for an amazing thorough real world chat about how a PW is as a daily driver. Did you post a link for the exhaust? Is it bolt on or welded? Amazing sound.

I’m in the same boat, either PW or Gladiator. Gladiator is expensive. PW can be had for the same price, but in my suburban home a bit too large to fit in my driveway, and probably more truck than I need. I drive a Frontier now and I like the size. But if I was going full size I would seriously consider a Power Wagon. Nice complete review.

I also track my mileage on Fuelly. I can compare my 2018 Tundra, a half-ton truck, to your PowerWagon. My Tundra has a lifetime average (2 years, 16 000miles) of 11.2 MPG. My best tank was also 15.6 MPG. My worst tank (8.63 MPG) was this spring when I was hauling 10 000lb load after load of clean fill in a dump trailer while landscaping. I think my average should be better, but for the first year of the truck's life, it did mostly short trips of 2-3kms, not really having a chance to warm up at all (I also live in Manitoba, where it gets really, really cold, which doesn't help). Now I have a beater car for the short daily trips, and the truck only gets used on longer trips where it will have a chance to warm up and stop dumping fuel into a cold engine. My average should be going up over the next year.
@JustinKingOffroad
@JustinKingOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
for how heavy this truck is it really does good. i don't let it warm up much cause i park in a garage that i heat to 50. but if i'm out camping or something in the winter i'll give it 5-10 minutes. the truck appears to drink 8/10ths of a gallon per hour at idle per the obd port scan tools.

@@JustinKingOffroad I just got to the part where you overloaded your truck with flatbed trailer. Haha, I did similar this spring when landscaping. I picked up a Bobcat S185 in my dump trailer. Total weight was about 11000lbs, truck's only rated for 9800lbs. It was a 20 min trip through the city though, so I wasn't too worried. It's definitely not something I'd do often, though, or for a long trip. ibb.co/XLCnHPh

@@JustinKingOffroad no because it doesnt allow the teuck to shift into those higher gears as fast which pits more strain on the tranny and boggin the engine. 5 to 6 mpg difference in my 2012 gmc. The brakes on the 3500 ram are boosted. The 2500, across all trims, has a mushy pedal. I have to pump brakes in my power wagon, neither of my 3500 rams had squishy pedals. Even my 2500 cummins had squishy brakes. Also, when I was in Cheyenne Wyoming I had the same gasoline results your seeing. However, once I moved back to North Carolina, where we have 93 octane, if I don’t run premium gasoline, I get ticking with 89 and knocks with 87. At 30k on the clock, I do get about 1-2 mpg better with premium but I use it mostly because my engine doesn’t sound like trash.

I shut the whole abs system down with the zauto tazer and about ate the steering wheel coming to a red light. The abs system on the truck appears to be the cause of the mushy brakes. With it disabled they seem amazing.

Justin, I am thinking of buying a PW but what you said about the brakes was bothersome so I did a little research and found that this is a common problem with these. You need a "scan tool" connected to the computer to open the ABS valves - then bleed the brakes. After that the sponginess is gone and good solid brakes again. I hope you see this. Art from Ohio

Each oil change adds x13 corrosion protection power to the undercarriage. :) And on the hawes fairlead, it should be polished smoother than what Dodge, err, Ram, has done with that coating. Rollers runs the risk of pinching the synthetic line at the roller end bushings and cutting it.

I would still always put premium in the tank simply because of the additive package you get. And before you say or think it, *it is not snake oil!* It really does protect your engine, particularly the piston rings and cylinder walls, which is the #1 area of engine wear. Under normal operation, fuel will "wash" away the oil film on the compression stroke, meaning the friction reduction that the engine oil normally provides is greatly reduced in the presence of fuel. The friction modifying additives in premium fuel goes a long way to reduce ring and wall wear from normal operation. Even if it costs more per mile, think about how many miles you're adding to the engine. And you still get better range per tank as well.

I have the exact same truck. I ended up on 37s and got an sdhq Chase rack and fitted a power tank and spare tire to it. Also went with the Thuren king 2.5 suspension. Love the review. only thing is that i have been told that the air filter that comes stock does just as good if not better than the S&B. Dethloff Mfg has alot of info on these trucks and more so our year I have been told that the little amound of difference (if any) isnt worth the price of the filter. Make sure to share a video and review on that as I am still on the fence. All in all great video man. And we had the same idea as far as mounting a tablet for road maps.

So my buddy has a power wagon, been with him a few times Or wheeling and that truck does not care LOL we see an obstacle it’ll go over it I don’t care how steep it is we follow jeeps all the time and they follow us.....Yeah that truck is way heavier than a Ford but it feels more stable when towing and has much better horsepower and torque , I don’t know what Dodge puts on their trucks for brakes but I had the same situation on a 1500 model and my buddy on a 2500 just not very good breaks from the factory for some reason I swap them out for a better grade and I’m telling you it was night and day difference it will stand on its nose now get new brake pads as soon as possible, and put a remote oil filter on there mounted under the hood or anywhere else you wanna put it well worth the money put on much bigger filters from Amsoil considerably better filtration , With oil essentially like a new the entire time it’s in the vehicle. PS my 2004 Durango at 5500 pounds and I will drive average is 16 in town and will get 20 to 21 on the highway easily and it will run on the cheapest gas I can buy I only gained 1 mpg on 89 octane which is what I tow with for much better torque and horsepower which is noticeable when used.

Also...with you are running 35's vs factory 33's? Same questions....any rubbing, etc? And lastly....can you run chains on the truck with 35";s...front and rear? I saw a video where you had them on the rear...but not sure if they can get on all 4. Thank you for the DETAILED info on the spare fitting, but deflated.
