The best lesson of this song. Accept no other! Justin takes it nice and slow. He counts the riffs out, repeats them, and then ties it all together!

I've been wanting to learn this for about 40 years. Tonight, after a few views of you video, I am about 95 percent there with it. I now have at least one guitar tuned to Open G. Thanks so much for all the excellent lessons over the years, you are a great teacher.

Nearly 6 years later and this lesson is still giving!. I always played this in standard 'E' tuning and could never quite get it to sound right - this sounds great and I can't believe how much easier it is to play. thanks Justin

This song is the greatest blues-rock song ever, IMO. And Justin breaks down the genius of the song with his great teaching. It's what you play and what you don't that sets this song apart for me. Compelling dynamics.

Hey nice work on the timing there! I've been playing that song since I was 15 (53 now) but never really worked hard on the studio version. Lots of elegantly simple stuff there.

Thanks for this lesson! It helped me fill in some gaps in my attempts to play it. You make some great points in your lessons. Mainly that it's not just getting the notes right but getting the timing and feel. Soooo important! When bending notes being sure to end in the right place and add a bit of vibrato when hanging out a note or chord if the song dictates it. I learned that fairly early on in my learning so that I got offers to be in bands and still do. I have been around some technically brilliant guitarists that aren't really good at feel and being musical. They play all the right notes but is sounds mechanical when it shouldn't. I had an instructor that had to argue that what he just played was technically correct by music theory. The only problem was that it didn't sound good or fit the song. You should never have to explain why you did something in a song when improvising. It should make sense and speak for itself. Then there are guys like Jimmy Page that can be a bit sloppy but nail the feel of the tune so completely. Sorry for the long winded post!

Justin, you sir in my estimation have the most well explained and executed tutorials on KZbin. Before I found your site I was greatly frustrated with many of the other individuals trying to show how to play this song.If there ever is a KZbin Grammy award for music tutorials you certainly will have my vote. Keep up the in-depth detail of your teachings as there are many among us who need a fast track to learning and building up our repertoire in order to keep the bar room audience content. I would just like to know who the 36 chuckleheads are who gave the tutorial a thumbs down,... I would assume they are orchestral violinists, lol.

A great lesson Justin, I have played for decades but always in standard tuning, I just decided to look at open G, I hope it doesn't confuse my regular playing and totally screw me up bur Mr Richards certainly makes some beautiful music with this tuning so here goes. Thanks for a great lesson.

Thanks for posting this. You definitely got it nailed. Great tone, too. One takeaway from this is that there are guitar players out there who slag Keith's ability, as if he can't / couldn't play or come up with a complex guitar part. Tracks like this one prove them wrong completely. Peace.

You seem to have a lovely personal nature. As a fellow guitarist I'd love to have a beer with you sometime; but alas, the middle of England is a bit far away for me to Australia. I always suspected that this track was open-G tuning. It's the only way to get those slides right with the open tuning ring. As you say, some of those riffs are lovely. A lot nicer than I previously gave credit. As always, a nicely presented and clear tutorial.
