Well that’s because 1 it’s is simply a product of the time and 2 franchises often fluctuate on their tone and even genre. GT was steeped in style and was made back when the tone and style of dragon ball z was much more in line with Sci-fi and western styles,themes,tropes etc. it’s why many still like GT, you can even argue that Gt in a lot of ways shows the appeal dbz has in the west. If u think I’m lying go look back at all the early z movies literally they are just like 80s and 90s Sci fi movies from western culture but anime.

It wasn't relevant information. What a lot of people don't get is what caused the regular dragonballs to split were the Black Star Ball.... The regular balls had successfully contained the negative energy they made, until a wish was made on the black star balls, which coated the earth in a MASSIVE amount of negative energy, which the regular balls absorb and became overloaded by.

I think the reason Gt holds up is mainly because it incapsulates the style/heart of dbz. It has heavy western and Sci fi themes and designs as well as stylized and unique animation that made Z what it is.

The thing is GT does not incapsulate DBZ but rather ORIGINAL DragonBall. You have goku and trunks (parallel to bulma in the original) finding the dragonballs, d3aling with wacky characters while kid goku easily deals the enemies, some turn alies too. Spitting image of original dragonball.

@ Have you seen 90% of the action, music, and art style of Gt? Especially later on in the show when ssj4 is introduced. Big huge muscles, heavily stylized moves, not only that most of dbz themes are Sci-fi themes you would see in a cheesy 90s movie. Look how similar it is to the old z movies before super they look very similar and even have similar music and themes. Also I was talking about Gt in the WEST it’s known for that stuff here because we have a different soundtrack and intro. The thing is the same can be said about Z especially depending on how you watched it because many people grew up with Bruce Falconer and themes like the cell theme and hell bells all that are extremely Americanized and rock influenced, things that makes dbz popular over here. Plus og dragon ball is much more magic/mystical being inspired by a journey in the west which makes sense, but after the shift to DBZ they definitely started to go more rock especially nearing the cell and buu arc not mention movies like cooler and the og broly track.

GT is split into two parts, the first half an homage to dragonball, the second post baby resuming the pace of Z, and the shadow dragon arc being an amalgamation of both.

GT takes place after the "End of Z" Arc since it's technically part of DBZ, which is why Super hasn't reached that point yet because it still takes place before the EOZ Arc, So he's not wrong.

It's funny. One of the things GT gets hated on the most for, is Goku being transformed into a kid. Now, Dragonball Daima does the EXACT same thing but worse, changes EVERYONE into a kids, and all these people who hated GT for Kid Goku absolutely LOVES Daima, with zero regard for that fact. The writers for GT said they changed Goku into a kid for 2 reasons: 1. To recapture the spirit of the original Dragonball. 2. They felt Goku by this time in his story was TOO strong to write for effectively. So they changed him into a kid to weaken him. (His base power as a child being vastly superior to all forms of Buu). GT isn't a perfect story. It certainly had some execution problems. However,ot is still a good story and the TRUE ending to Dragonball. I've said it for years, the only thing that needed to make GT better is making some of the non-Goku fights longer and more dramatic..... That's literally it.... -Extend the struggle of Goten, Gohan, and Vegeta against Baby. - Show Gohan and Piccolo go all out on a struggle. - Extend the battle of Uub/ later Majuub against Baby. - Show all the Z fighters in action against the revived villains. - Have all the Z fighters split up and take on the shadow Dragons. Do these things and literally no one is complaining about GT being a bad series.

Biggest issue with a lot of DB media is making it so only Goku and Vegeta can actually do anything important. Trunks and Gohan get some moments but most of the big stuff is given to their dads. Yet GT is the only one where it's held against it, despite Super and now Daima doing the same thing.

@@naransolongoboldbayer8030 Exactly. But this is a problem of having good writers and writing, which current Dragonball certainly does not. Now that AT is dead, I fear what Dragonball will become. Not that his view on things didn't have their own flaws (there were plenty), however, he often combated the poor choices Toei made with characters and production. Now there is no one to hold them back. Sure, someone could say Toyotaro is still in charge of the manga ( which I do think does a lot of stuff better than the anime), but even than sometimes the manga gets crazy with stuff too. Honestly, I think the best handling of Dragonball characters I've seen so far (outside of Z) comes from the fan series Dragonball Absalon. It's a great series.

Its actually pretty cool how the kabito Kai foreshadowed the dragon ball dragons in the Buu saga. He kept complaining to Goku how its unnatural to use the dragon balls to make wishes. That it disrupts the natural order of the universe and will come back to haunt them some day.

This is what made Dragon Ball so fun as a series, the idea you had the potential for a space odyssey meeting all the other alien species was something that I thought made GT special. For the longest time with DBZ I felt like we only got a very small glimpse into a very large universe. I'm glad Super, and now Daima are starting to fix that by not expanding the universe alien wise but dimension wise/realm wise! If we got Broly and Gogeta cannon finally... Can a brother hold out for Janemba as a villain? P. S. The idea of the shadow dragon arc was a fantastic, but it really left so much on the table. I'd also hate/love to see how powerful the potential Shadow Dragons could've been if Porunga was granting to many wishes.
