What streaming device is HuePlay compatible with? I tried Roku but Roku isn’t compatible with Spectrum anymore. I got an Apple TV device and it worked for a little while then I had issues with the hue play and they sent a replacement. I couldn’t get it to work though connected the same way. So I have to go back to the Roku and I get jerky video since Roku/Spectrum are no longer compatible. What are my choices to get everything to mesh together?

The last example is what I did with a mounted 75”. 5 play bars at the bottom, facing downward. It worked very well. If you do this, be sure to bring them high enough so that the light itself is not visible and it blends with the gradient strip. The example shows this perfectly. Helpful video.

You are mentioning things that answer questions I had and are things that no one else is mentioning. I have a Sharp 85” TV and I run audio through through an amp and 7.1 surround. You are the only one that I have come across that mentions the sync box has to be the last source in line to the TV to get audio to work. That was the piece that made me jump to buy. Thank you.

How do you think the gradient light would fit on the back on an LG OLED TV? Ive noticed all of the TVs featured are LCD TVs that have pretty even backs, whereas the LG OLEDs have a super thin top half, with the bottom half of the back protruding out a good 3-4 inches.

Hey. So the iConnectHue app on ios can allow you to change individual areas of colours on the strip as it would if watching a film with the sync box? I have bought the app but and am fiddling with the 'discotainment' feature but can't get it to make the light sections to be individually coloured on the strip. Love these vids I've got gradient strip on a 65 inch with one play bar at the bottom. Question. We have a gradient strip that are 2metres long. Couldn't I use that for the bottom of the TV I can't see any videos about it. They are gradient so they should sync with your TV if you can put them on the entertainment area?

Hi Justin! Happy New Year to you! Just wanted to pick your brain? Took the plunge and bought the sync box with 2 play bars to sync in with a light strip. Connected all up and works well however every so often the screen blanks out and loses the picture and syncing. Have tried all the ports and still the same. Also wanted to know if you would know the answer to the following. I know the sync box cannot cope with a 3d signal via the sync box due to the way the signals are sent. But wonder if a video splitter that filtered out the 3d signal and fed back into the sync box would work with a direct video fed to the tv? If so would you know of any spitters that would perform? ttfn

Phillips Hue should have ensured the LEDs wrap around the entire TV and not 3/4 of the way. Maybe than we wouldn't need a Tips & Tricks video to make the LED Lightstrips better! As Phillips being the world leaders in lighting - these LEDs are quite tragic. What's more tragic is that you'd have to get the HDMI Sync Box which costs the same as the Lightstrips for the lights to sync with what's displayed...

My concern is that, 75" strip will overhang the two sides of 65" TV, which will cause the color mismatch or not line up with the TV. I want 75" simply because I may upgrade my TV in the near future. As long as it fits the measurements I think you will be fine. The 65" wont look bad on a 75" TV either, so I think both could work for you.

It was also interesting how to implement full backlighting from four sides. But you have not considered the option of using two gradient lightstrips. If one lightstrip can cover only three sides, then maybe you can take the smallest one and use two of them and then they will be enough for all four sides of the TV. Is it possible? Will it work correctly in screen capture mode? (I have 65" LG OLED TV)

So many people asking if they can fit the larger size strip to their tv, thinking it will better but, in reality, the light zones will be out of synch with the screen and/or the strips will be too close to the edge being a distraction. These strips are suppose to be complimentary to the whole viewing experience, not the main feature. (Or maybe I’m just becoming an old git..?) lol

@@Justin_tech Totally off subject of this video but I posted a question over on Reddit about not having the option (in the Hue app) to have a favourite scene as the default setting when you turn on your lights. Only thing is, it has brought up another thing where I mentioned using Shortcuts. I did start to try and explain but realised, reading back, what I had written made it sound 20 times harder than it actually is and thought, “What this needs is a tutorial video by a professional!” (And thought of you straightaway lol) Tbh, I’m quite new to the Shortcuts thing on iOS and finding them quite limited in what you can do, but have found out, once you create a scene and save it as a Shortcut, it is then saved in the Alexa app routine options, opening up a whole world of options with just one Alexa trigger. All this may be common knowledge to a lot of people already but going by how much Hue stuff looks to have been sold this Black Friday (week/month?!), there will be lots of people new to it all as well and thought it would maybe be a good video for you to do?

Great video, though, I find on my 65” lg b8, the closer the tv is the wall, the easier it makes it to distinguish between colors when it’s running. I’m surprised you think it looks better the farther away from the wall (up to a certain distance of course).

Justin, I have a question about the Phillips HUE gradient lights for behind a TV. My living room is situated in such a way that when you enter the room I see a side view of my TV. I’m worried that the side view of the HUE light strip will be visually unattractive and detract from the ambience of the room since everyone will see that view when entering the room. You know, kind of like seeing behind the scenes at Disneyland. What do you think? I don’t have an example to go look at.

Very well could fit - there's wiggle room to adjust the lengths. The corners are baked into the device, it doesn't track where it is on the tv, but if it's installed evenly, it should look just fine.

It really depends on your setup and what looks best. It’s definitely easier to attach them aiming at the wall using the included mounts. I feel like it may look better facing the wall because it will diffuse the light better. Just make sure to test out the height before attaching. You don’t want them to outside the gradient strip, so they may need to go higher than expected.

Justin ...... So i can use this Ambilight set for my non Ambilight SAMSUNG Q950T TV yes? The main problem with this set is you have to sacrifice one of my 4x HDMI Terminals (all 4 already taken) yes? If the answer in both cases is a yes then i must find a solution to get my extre one more HDMI port for this set + don't even think about the 6th HDMI Terminal for SONY PST 5 (6 HDMI in total)

The light doesn’t need an hdmi port, the hue sync box does, but the sync box has 4 ports on it, so you’d have more than before. Or just as much if you decide to plug everything into it

How do you make the lights sync with what is on the tv? Like the videos you showed of other peoples set ups?

can i use a philips hue play bar on my laptop for gaming? i want to sync the lights to whats on my screen and im not sure if i should get the play bar, or the led strips, and overall i want to make sure it will work on my laptop! SOS

Yes you can. Use the Hue Sync app on Mac/PC and it will sync the lights with your computer. You do need a Hue Bridge for this.

i wish the gradient strip would have some sort of capability to work with ultra wide displays, the zones are fantastic because of the sheer amount of them but as you cant match a zone to screen space in software it just doesn't line up. CRG9 Monitor I guess the best bet is a play bar on the left and the right and maybe 2 in the top middle facing up _ _ | |

Hello Justin, i have a 75" tv but there isn't available. I asked Philips and basically they don't have a date to restock, so if i get a 65" lightstrip can it fit? Thank you!

Yes the 65 inch will look just fine compared to the 75 inch on our 85 inch at TV

I have a Vizio M Series 70" and I'm wondering should I go for the 65" or the 75"? I'm worried that in order to get the 65" to work correctly I will have it inset too far, but I'm assuming the 45 degree angle will help? Also, the 75" is out of stock. What to do?

I think the 65" would work just fine. How far from the wall is it?

@@Justin_tech It's 13" from the wall. I was just worried about it being long enough on the sides but from the videos it doesn't seem like it would make a big difference. It's table mounted so I'm no concerned with bottom light. Maybe down the road.

Have you seen where the lights are no longer searchable in the Philips Hue app? Even new lights have to be added with the serial number. I even tried a new Hub and I got the same results. - Any suggestions? It started when I added the Philips TV light- after a few steps, I lost every light in my home. I had to remove every bulb and get the serial number, then rebuild every room. - So fustrating! I recently added a new Playbar and again - had to use the serial number. Any help would be greatly appriciated. - Martin

@Justin So if I understand the video correct, sorry I am not a native speaker, if I get a 48/49" TV a 55" strip will fit, if I put it all to the outside? Correct? Second. Running a Xbox Series X on a f.e. 49" LG Nanocell, I could fit the strip like stated above, but the HUE Sync Box does not support 120Hz. So can I just go from the Series X to the TV and than use another HMDI Cable to go via Arc into the snyc box? Or does the sync box need an output to work?

Yes you should be able to make that size work with your tv. No, you cannot do that. The sync box needs to output to the TV.

@@Justin_tech Wow you are fast, and if you just input a dummy HDMI cable. The problem is that the sync box can't handle 120Hz and the whole point is to have a 120Hz System

Too bad they don't have the best specs in the TV otherwise I would have bought an Philip's too. Since TP vision took over they didn't make the best TVs anymore.

Just to clear things out. If I want the gradient lightstrip to synchronize with whats happening on the TV I also have to buy the hdmi sync box. That means I have to pay an extra 200 dollars to make it work? Am I right?

Yes, unless you use the Hue Sync app on a Mac/PC and connect that to your TV
