@Justin_tech - do you have any thoughts on mounting the gradient lightstrip behind a 100" projection screen? Have you seen this done? I have the 75" lightstrip on my 75" television and am currently planning an upgrade to an ultra short throw projector with either a 90" or 100" screen. I know that the lightstrip can be installed onto 85" displays if set back from the edges of the display. I have an idea as to how the lightstrip can be mounted, and what I will try, but would love to see how others have done this. My idea - build a 16x9 frame from 2x2" to the inside dimension of where my lightstrips are currently mounted. Mount my lightstrips to the outside of the 2x2 frame, and mount the frame to the wall (centered to where my screen will be), and then devise a way to mount the screen (90-100") to the frame. Think it may work? Have you seen it done? Have any other ideas? Care to do a video on this (for projection screens)?

Covee is just not as great as hue (i tested out both) imo the colors of hue product are more accurate and have somehow a more beautifull dept color pallet. but if you don't care about syncing lights from your tv, covee is the best alternative after hue. the have great products like always you have two type of consumers, one find price more important , the other like quality, if you like quality you need to find patience. it's not that anybody who like hue buy all these bulbs at once, most expand them over time. expensive? YES. worth it? hell yeah.
@pudgysquid8174 жыл бұрын
So... $240 for the light, $60 for the bridge, and $230 for the Sync box. That's $530 before tax which, in my area, would add another $45... so roughly $575. Wow. That's ridiculously expensive for a light on the back of a TV. In fact, that's probably about 25% of the cost of most "nice" TVs right now.
@insertnamehere87234 жыл бұрын
Nothing on OLED prices and if you already have 3/4 of the stuff, then it's not an issue for people alredy in the ecosystem. The fact is this is the most seamless and cheaper option if you consider buying serval light to get a similar effect. Obviously cheaper options exist, but they don't come close. Besides, some people literally spend a grand on a phone so...you know lol.
@Skreamies4 жыл бұрын
This is meant to add to the current eco system so the price for most will be just the light strip as they have the other things
@pudgysquid8174 жыл бұрын
Skreamies that is a big assumption. I don’t own any of the Hue lights so I would have to purchase all of it just to get started.
@insertnamehere87234 жыл бұрын
@@pudgysquid817 It's actually a fair assumption if you're remotely familiar with hue, or even Sonos, for that matter. Sure, it may be a bit if a put off, but it's an ecosystem regardless and that extends to more than just the lights.
@G0F15H4 жыл бұрын
@Pudgy Squid While you can certainly get a very nice TV for around $1,000 these days, nothing on the market comes with back-lighting like this. This is a luxury item meant to take home entertainment to an unnecessary level. There are plenty of people who spend well beyond $1,000 for their setup; especially once you factor in receivers, speakers and gaming rigs. For someone who has $10,000 or even $5,000 invested, this is a drop in the bucket for what it adds to the experience. Also, I'd agree with Skreamies... there are a lot of people (myself included) who already own Hue products. But even if you don't, this solution actually makes it far more affordable, easier to implement and provides better results vs the previous options. To get the same effect you'd have to have 7 bulbs or light bars behind the TV; that would be at least $250 MORE and look like complete shit. If you're at the point where you're adding smart lighting to the back of your TV, this is a no-brainer

Some time ago I invested in "cheaper" bias lighting system from another company which provides just an "ok" experience, but honestly for the price you couldn't argue too much. (But its inconsistencies of tracking colours on my TV and regular disconnects from my wifi have me frustrated) But this system has me really excited and will be the proper finishing touch to my multimedia set up. (I already have a great TV and surround sound system) But your review has totally confirmed my decision! Yes it will be expensive addition to my current set up. But I've already invested in a great system, and there is no point cheaping out at this point especially for the quality and reliability you will get from the Philips Hue system. Fantastic review and love the genuine excitement from your reviews! I have now subscribed and looking forward to seeing more future content and ideas of how improve my home lighting/automation ✌️ 😊

My first movie with the Gradient Lightstream will be "Man of Steel". I love this film and I'm sure it is going to deliver spectacular results. I have a 65 inch Samsung TV and I like Samsung's image quality. So I'm looking forward to the Gradient Lightstrip, BUT, the only thing that bothers me, is that the in-TV-Apps like Netflix and so on, are not going to work directly with the Sync Box. Are there any solutions already for that?
@MartinIvanov2 жыл бұрын
Having the same issue here, I just stream from my Playstation, the new Samsung OS is a bit buggy anyways (very often the apps crash cuz the TV ran out of memory) and you can take advantage of a consoles hardware for faster internet speeds and higher quality picture.

Hey Justin - great video. Quick question - I have a 42" mounted TV. Based on your review, did I understand correctly that I would not be able to use the 55' or 65' strip to cover the 4 corners of my TV? thank you!

You cant use the strip on the bottom, it wont know where it is placed, it can only be used for the three sides unfortunately (for now).

Do you know how an hue gradient lightstrip (not a play one) can be used in an entertainment area controlled by hue sync taking advantage of its gradient qualities? And not to be used as a common lightstrip? The same question but when using a tv with ambilight + hue ... how can you do so that the gradient lightsrip can be exploited with that quality and not act as a common Lightstrip?
@Sedious4 жыл бұрын
Philips should soon release a new Sync Box with HDMI 2.1 since buying one right now has pretty much zero value to gamers who want to use this with their new consoles. Other than that this looks much better for a tv compared to the Play light bars, mildly disappointed it doesn't span across all 4 edges of the tv though.

Nice review. Can you give us more imfo on the music mode? I've already pre-ordered mine and purchased a sync box. Now my setup goes like this: - tv / soundbar / caavo control center / tv receiver - ps4 - nintendo switch - kodi Where do I put the sync box? Between the soundbar and the caavo control center? Between the tv and the soundbar for the music mode? 🤔

I want to get the 55" Gradient Light Strip for my 34" ultra-wide monitor. But I'm unclear on the actual length of the strips. Is the actual light strip 55" in length, or does the 55" only represent the size of TV/Monitor it should fit? If the latter is true, how long is the actual light strip itself? I'd like to plan how to install/mount it to the monitor and if it will work given the size.

Yes the 55” is for the TV it should get installed on. The 55” strip is 88” long altogether.

Hey, great video! Have you seen the gradient light strip used on a TV which is not positioned against the wall? My room is fairly large and long, so the TV sits in the corner of the room at an angle to the sofas. I'm therefore wondering what the light effect will look like. Behind the TV its part wall and part windows. Any views would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

my tv has 2,5metres to my wall. do you think the strip will be "enough light" or should i consider the light bars? kind regards from germany.
@Justin_tech4 жыл бұрын
That’s tough. The play bars could be a better option for that distance....but the gradient strip is much cheaper. Perhaps you could test the gradient and return if you are unhappy? The gradient shines at a 45 degree angle so it may have issues hitting your wall whereas the play bars are strong and direct.

Awesome video. There is one issue with the Philips Hue Sync Hdmi Box, it only works via hdmi. It is ok for a console or a media player. It doesnt work while watching native TV(Netflix, KZbin, cable TV). So it kinda sucks because I really love the ambilight and I am really tempted to buy again a Philips Oled, I dont know if it is worth it to swap my LG E9. I had last year the 934 Philips, I had a few issues and after 2 weeks I have return it, mainly because of the lip-sync issues and pixel shifting process(for me personally the pixel shifting is annoying). SO, how can I have ambilight while watching native TV?

be interested to see how it fitted on the back of the TV. all the press images i've seen have shown a TV with a uniform flat back, but most modern TVs aren't like that - most have a really thin top half and a chunky bottom half - this would make installing the gradient strip look messy.
