@Justin_tech - do you have any thoughts on mounting the gradient lightstrip behind a 100" projection screen? Have you seen this done? I have the 75" lightstrip on my 75" television and am currently planning an upgrade to an ultra short throw projector with either a 90" or 100" screen. I know that the lightstrip can be installed onto 85" displays if set back from the edges of the display. I have an idea as to how the lightstrip can be mounted, and what I will try, but would love to see how others have done this. My idea - build a 16x9 frame from 2x2" to the inside dimension of where my lightstrips are currently mounted. Mount my lightstrips to the outside of the 2x2 frame, and mount the frame to the wall (centered to where my screen will be), and then devise a way to mount the screen (90-100") to the frame. Think it may work? Have you seen it done? Have any other ideas? Care to do a video on this (for projection screens)?

Covee is just not as great as hue (i tested out both) imo the colors of hue product are more accurate and have somehow a more beautifull dept color pallet. but if you don't care about syncing lights from your tv, covee is the best alternative after hue. the have great products like always you have two type of consumers, one find price more important , the other like quality, if you like quality you need to find patience. it's not that anybody who like hue buy all these bulbs at once, most expand them over time. expensive? YES. worth it? hell yeah.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzbin.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

So... $240 for the light, $60 for the bridge, and $230 for the Sync box. That's $530 before tax which, in my area, would add another $45... so roughly $575. Wow. That's ridiculously expensive for a light on the back of a TV. In fact, that's probably about 25% of the cost of most "nice" TVs right now.
@insertnamehere8723
@insertnamehere8723 3 жыл бұрын
Nothing on OLED prices and if you already have 3/4 of the stuff, then it's not an issue for people alredy in the ecosystem. The fact is this is the most seamless and cheaper option if you consider buying serval light to get a similar effect. Obviously cheaper options exist, but they don't come close. Besides, some people literally spend a grand on a phone so...you know lol.

This is meant to add to the current eco system so the price for most will be just the light strip as they have the other things

@@pudgysquid817 It's actually a fair assumption if you're remotely familiar with hue, or even Sonos, for that matter. Sure, it may be a bit if a put off, but it's an ecosystem regardless and that extends to more than just the lights.

@Pudgy Squid While you can certainly get a very nice TV for around $1,000 these days, nothing on the market comes with back-lighting like this. This is a luxury item meant to take home entertainment to an unnecessary level. There are plenty of people who spend well beyond $1,000 for their setup; especially once you factor in receivers, speakers and gaming rigs. For someone who has $10,000 or even $5,000 invested, this is a drop in the bucket for what it adds to the experience. Also, I'd agree with Skreamies... there are a lot of people (myself included) who already own Hue products. But even if you don't, this solution actually makes it far more affordable, easier to implement and provides better results vs the previous options. To get the same effect you'd have to have 7 bulbs or light bars behind the TV; that would be at least $250 MORE and look like complete shit. If you're at the point where you're adding smart lighting to the back of your TV, this is a no-brainer

Presumably, if you have a smaller than 55" tv, you could position the lightstrip so the top and sides aren't completely straight, to use up the excess length? Only having a few zones, this shouldn't affect the colour detection too much, if at all

I've being considering investing in this product since it got announced recently. Some time ago I invested in "cheaper" bias lighting system from another company which provides just an "ok" experience, but honestly for the price you couldn't argue too much. (But its inconsistencies of tracking colours on my TV and regular disconnects from my wifi have me frustrated) But this system has me really excited and will be the proper finishing touch to my multimedia set up. (I already have a great TV and surround sound system) But your review has totally confirmed my decision! Yes it will be expensive addition to my current set up. But I've already invested in a great system, and there is no point cheaping out at this point especially for the quality and reliability you will get from the Philips Hue system. Fantastic review and love the genuine excitement from your reviews! I have now subscribed and looking forward to seeing more future content and ideas of how improve my home lighting/automation ✌️ 😊

@@nessunday Thanks for the advice mate! Yeah that's the plan. The system overall is very expensive. Like the HDMI sync box alone is around £240/€270 I feel is a considerable amount of money you need to pay extra to have to buy to get it to work properly. Thankfully I already have the Hue bridge and some coloured lights to sync to it. But will definitely be waiting for Black Friday sales to see what discounts it gets before pulling the trigger. 👍

Unfortunately, no. You need the sync box and an external media device like a Fire TV stick or Apple TV, etc.

is it possible to use the gradint strip if i stream a film from my pc (via utp) to the tv or does that not work, because i want to buy a lot of hue but not if i can't stream it. I use Plex to stream.

You could use the hue sync app on your PC and it will sync to the content. Or you can stream your PC to a device connected to the Hue Sync Box

One question Justin: do you think the 55” size could fit on a 50” tv? I saw the length on philips official site and I’m asking myself if mounting it nearer the borders could work. 🤔 Thank you in advance and congratulations for your videos and channel! 😊
@Justin_tech

I think it will. Mine comes out to 44" on top and 21.5" on each side (with little wiggle room). According to the patherium theorem (a2 + b2 = c2) it will work on a 48.5 inch tv and up, maybe even smaller...

The sync box does not support hdmi 2.1. So it’s already obsolete if you have a recent tv or are planning to get a next gen gaming console or pc graphics card (ps5, xbox series x or RTX30X0).

Just wondering, u said its 44 inch along the top. Are u measuring that until the cable starts curving either side, so just the straight bit, or is that including the curve before going straight down, so measuring out above the curve? If u know what I mean. 😂

my tv has 2,5metres to my wall. do you think the strip will be "enough light" or should i consider the light bars? kind regards from germany.
@Justin_tech
@Justin_tech 3 жыл бұрын
That’s tough. The play bars could be a better option for that distance....but the gradient strip is much cheaper. Perhaps you could test the gradient and return if you are unhappy? The gradient shines at a 45 degree angle so it may have issues hitting your wall whereas the play bars are strong and direct.

Hi, I'm Luca from Milan, I wanted to ask you a question about the Philips Hue SyncBox. Currently my TV or connected sky, Xbox and Apple TV, to select the source, use the TV remote control. Installing the sync box to change the video source continues to use the TV (even if I think only one HDMI cable enters) Or do I have to use the application on the Philips phone to choose which source I want to see? I often have two sources active Example Xbox and sky and with the TV remote control I can choose what to see, how can you do with the SYNCBOX? thank you
@Justin_tech
@Justin_tech 3 жыл бұрын
You can program a universal remote to change HDMI inputs, or the sync box will switch to a different input when it senses a new device turn on. I have a receiver (with all devices connected to that) connected to my sync box so it's always one single input for tv and sync box.

Just set mine up and I’m not sure if I messed something up but can I not utilize my surround sound which would normally be in the ARC USB port on TV now for surround sound? I put that in slot 1 on the sync box and em the USB from the main port on sync box to my ARC 2...

Hi Justin for the UK! Just found your site after looking for the sync box and info and you came up! Great site and content and explanations. Just wanted to ask a question on the Gradient Strip? I have a 65in tv which is wall mounted with little space behind. To your knowledge If I purchased the largest size strip which would cover the back of the tv (curved tv forgot to mention) in a circle would the light strip work in delivering the lights all around the tv as it floats on a false wall? Cheers Chris.
@Justin_tech

Welcome to the channel! Unfortunately no, you cannot wrap it around the bottom of the TV. For the bottom I recommend one single color LED strip or 3 play bars.

How big is your TV? Watch my Gradient Strip updates video! That will help guide you on size and mount of playbars that would be sufficient. 6 playbars would cost more than a gradient strip. The gradient strip is effectively 7 playbars

I want to get the 55" Gradient Light Strip for my 34" ultra-wide monitor. But I'm unclear on the actual length of the strips. Is the actual light strip 55" in length, or does the 55" only represent the size of TV/Monitor it should fit? If the latter is true, how long is the actual light strip itself? I'd like to plan how to install/mount it to the monitor and if it will work given the size.

Yes the 55” is for the TV it should get installed on. The 55” strip is 88” long altogether.
