Man I haven't seen this video in awhile. My friend danced in it and we knew he was big-time then! RIP Shake!! RIP Mr. Kemp!

He died tragically in 2015. He was on a cruise, it docked in Jamaica and they think he slipped on some rocks, hit his head and drowned. He was going to be a performer on Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage Cruise at the time. He was only 55

This was the Friday Evening Song before you went out to party in the 80's ..gave you so much positive vibes!!..Big Hit!!

Teddy Riley was elbows deep in this one. This song was so big when it came out you couldn't go anywhere and not hear it. This song was massive in the late 80s clean into the early 90s. This song dropped in 88 and still gets played. RIP Johnny Kemp.

Boy when this song came out, talk about overkill. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing this song. I got so tired of hearing it, but it's nice to hear now. R.I.P. Mr. Kemp.

This song written by Keith Sweat, produced and arranged by Teddy Riley was to be on Keith's debut album Make it last forever. It was not included in the album for lack of time because the album was already finished. Keith Sweat then decided to give it to Johnny Kemp. This song was a huge hit and was ranked No.1 on the Billboard when it was released.

As of Mar 1988 Johnny Kemp's Just Got Paid was released on Columbia Records off of his Secrets of Flying album. That was the Friday party jam of 1988, at the start of New Jack Swing the Teddy Riley Era even one of my family members went to the record store and bought this thing on 12 inch and we knew that this joint would be have everyone dancing on the floor at birthday, Xmas Halloween parties in 1988. Rest in peace JK ❤

A banger! ❤️🔥🔥 Of course people would sing “just got la*d” 😂 RIP Johnny Kemp. Tragic untimely death. Edited to add: Grammy nominated song 🤩

I believe the story is that Johnny Kemp's demo is what was used for this song. This song was a monster hit. IMO - there was "This Is How We Do It", and this song right here. If you were in the club, and this song came on...you were GOING on that dance floor. This is just one of those songs that just compelled you to dance. The beat hits so hard it thumps...LOL.

i had just left Los Angeles for Philadelphia when this song hit in July 1988. i was dancing in the front cabin of my mom and dad's U-Haul truck when this came on the radio. i was 5 then. as soon as we reached Philadelphia, a new sound hit the radio. New Jack Swing music had arrived. all at once, "Just Got Paid" by Johnny Kemp, "Groove Me" by Guy, and "My Prerogative" by Bobby Brown hit like a lightning bolt. "My Girly" by Ready For The World came a week later. it is thee sound of my childhood from age 5 in 1988 to age 13 in 1996. great time to be alive.

This was a party anthem song in 1987......Johnny was a one hit wonder but what a hit.....as far as him being a inspiration or influence on New Edition.....nah......New Edition had their first hit in 1983 before anyone even heard of Johnny Kemp.....great reaction

This song was a hit & went off at every party! Keith Sweat wrote this song & Teddy Riley produced it. This was supposed to go on Keith Sweat debut album but his album was already finished & turned in so he gave it to Johnny since he knew him since they were teenagers singing in the different groups they were in at the time. This song was his signature song & his biggest hit. It's a very fishy situation surrounding his death in 2015. He was supposed to be performing this song for Tom Joyner & his yearly cruise but 2 days before he was found floating dead in beach water in Jamaica. R.I.P to Johnny Kemp this classic will forever reign.

Fantastic dance track, just up beat fun! And new jack swing was/is one of my fav rhythms. If I listened to this I'd usually follow with Now that we've found love, Heavy D's version - and then not be able to resist going back to Third World's ... so many great tunes to enjoy! 😊 Thanks for this one.
