Raising a Grocery Store Spiny Lobster as a Pet

I get a live spiny lobster from the grocery store, but instead of eating him I make him an aquarium home that is teaming with life

Definitely worried about the snails and the eel, let alone the fish in general. I hope the hostility between the lobsters dies down, but also the hostility in the tank itself... Let us know how it works and please take good care of those babies, even the snails! I've also been having troubles with my aquariums and it's been really uninspiring. Josh, for the future, please don't buy friends for pets you intend to keep without informing yourself beforehand if they are even compatible. This applies to things like coral, pebble, sand and weeds as well. Most pet stores can tell you what animals get along and which don't. Otherwise they may end up as a quick snack. Especially with two lobsters in a space too small to keep two of them for longer. Just some advice, keep the videos comin' !

Not all pet stores are that knowledgeable. My local fish store assured me that cherry shrimp and tiger barbs would be fine together.... nope my barbs ate my shrimp.

How interesting! I am concerned about the hostility between the two lobsters, it seems like they might need more space or to be separated. I hope they get along with each other or a solution arises. Also, I'm happy to see lobsters getting more recognition! I've watched Leon the lobster's channel for a while now and I know he talks about how awesome and full of personality lobsters are, but also overlooked. It's so cool to see people welcoming them into the hobby now! Definitely keep us posted, the ups and the downs. It will surely help several aquarists along the way!

I worry about what happens when one of the lobster molt since they'll be very vulnerable to attack by the other at that time. But the end of the video says they both molts in the next video so we'll see.

If you want to do any of these kinds of projects, you have to get a better tank. This seems too small for these lobsters and I would recommend getting 200 gallons for each lobster.

Cool project. That’s a huge amount of livestock to add all at once. Be sure to test your water and get ready to do some water changes with that huge bio load increase… your nitrates are going to jump up fast.. get a Hang On Back protein skimmer like asap - that will help keep your water quality better. Keep good flow inside of the tank too! GL!!
