We saw her just a few weeks ago in the Union Chapel...it was mesmerising!! Sitting in a pew in a still functioning church, watching and listening to Eivor and her band, is something never to be forgotten!! Some of her native folk stuff is astounding. Thanks for confirming her brilliance Justin.

yep, seeing her play this one and her other tunes live is pretty special. I usually love shows where everyone sings along but when she plays the audience is mostly quiet because we all know that we won't be able to cold a candle to what she is capable of. As to your question about this being a band or a solo artist, it's mostly her. She writes the songs and plays multiple instruments but those guys work with her a lot. And she is coming to North America in January 2022 - covid permitting. Go and see her, if you can. It's mind blowing.

Amazing singer/songwriter, definitely a very deep rabbit hole to fall into. Her studio work is fantastic but she takes things to another level live and she frequently changes the song structures. Hands down my favorite artist.

So pleased you got around to this. In my view this is perhaps the most emotional piece of music I've ever heard and I've been around for quite a while. I've listened to it many times now and it always soothes my soul. You're right to compliment the sound engineer and I'm glad you did listen to this version because it is the absolute best. Although this is her piece de resistance she is by no means a one song wonder and as advertised she covers many genres.

what i realise is that there are many many reactions on specificly this song by eivor and everyone is just amazed by her talent. and thats it, nothing more happens. no further look into her work, no more reactions to her songs. and then i check out the other content of those reaction channels and see five reactions to this artist, six ones on that artist. thats all legit, but also a shame that eivor is not featured more. it's a shame.

Hi JP. DP from UK. This lady has the Voice Of An Angel. I've loved her ever since I heard her singing the theme to one of my favourite TV series of recent years, The Last Kingdom. This features the sort of chanting near the end of this song. Love your reaction, and I share your emotions about Eivor. P.S. The Last Kingdom is a drama based on the early history of England, and especially King Alfred's resistance to Viking invasion. He was based in Winchester, which was where I was born!

Very tired, just had my dinna, and a Hagen Das treat. Next, a lovely lady singing very well. Almost lulled me to sleep like an Angel would. Good thing I snapped out of it. Yumyo shojin! I woulda swanneed that this here was yer Cake Bush. But then...Lisa Gerrard. I found myself reacting in synch at those epic altitudes. Just saw that she was Faroese, which is that island off of Iceland, where they say "Takk fyri" apparently, and not "Takk fyrir" like in Iceland, or Takk, Tack, or Tak, in Scandinavia, all meaning "Thanks". Thank without an "h" or "n". So cool to connect some music to this beautiful little place I want to visit.

Thank you for your review. "Falling Free" by Eivør will definitely give you goosebumps. Her songs are so beautiful and will bring your emotions out. I found her from the music she and John Lunn do for a series called "The Last Kingdom" Awesome series if you don't know. I started researching her music and fell in love. She just finished her first time tour in the US and I was fortunate to see her live last week. Just an incredible show. She actually came out to visit with her fans as well and I was able to talk to her while she autographed 3 CDs I had brought just in case. If you get the chance to see her live take the chance. She also streamed her Chicago show, so I was excited to enjoy that for the couple of days they allow you to have it.

Thank you so much for this Justin. Great stuff. In searching for more on Eivor, I've come across another set of bands with female singers from Europe (one you've already recommended - Dikajee) and there are some real good ones out there. One I HAVE TO tell you about is a group called Iamthemorning. The album is 'The Bell'. I've only heard the first three songs by, my word, they are as captivating as can be. Not asking for a reaction per se but you've got to hear it. Apparently they have quite a few albums which I'll be diving into very soon because this first one I've encountered is just so great.

Yes, brilliant. I found that recording a couple of years ago while looking for more stuff by Aurora, and realized that Northern Europe, and Norway specifically, is imho producing much better music than most other places. Check out Kalandra's 'Slow Motion', 'Brave New World' and 'Helvegen' (the Gildehallen performances). Also The Wardruna version of 'Helvegen', with Aurora; and a whole lot of Aurora's stuff, avoiding the disco pop, but starting say with 'It Happened Quiet' (Live at The Current), 'Little Boy In The Grass' (Mahogany) and the entire Nidarosdomen concert; her lyrics from that period can be devastating. And for something *really* different, look at 'Heilung - In Maidjan'.

Eivør Pálsdóttir is such an Icelandic name though she apparently isn't Icelandic. She does seem to have a lot of connection to Iceland so I am surprised she hasn't appeared at the Winnipeg Folk Festival (Iceland and Manitoba have a thing going). I had never heard her before today. -dóttir og -son as in Pálsdóttir or Pálsson is just as common in the Faroe Islands as in Iceland. Obviously it translates to doughter of Pál or son of Pál. In Faroe Islands it is however more common to use this as a middle-name. Pál is not necessarily son of another Pál😁 Eivør started out in a faroese rockband called Clickhaze (Klikkheys-faroese word transposed to english.. heys means head and Klikkheys means your head clicked, or you have gone mental. So sort of selfironic humorous name and covered up in a foreign language). Anyways, the leadsinger in that band was Petur ‘Pólson’ Jensen. Pólson to highlight his father, and Jensen to carry the family name on.

Before I hear your comments Justin, I want to comment first. I won't add anything else, after I listen to what you have to say. These days, when I take the time to listen to music that I've never heard before, for whatever reason, my attention span isn't very good. Maybe I've just become somewhat jaded with life, but often... even if the music is great, I'll still end up clicking off of it fairly quickly. Not always, but most of the time I won't listen all the way through. If I listen all the way through, then that usually means I loved it. With this performance right here... I couldn't look away. I couldn't click off of it to go listen to something else. I just sat here fixated on what I was listening to. She, and the music, took me to another place. There aren't many pieces of music that can do that to me anymore.

Well - Kate Bush is getting up there. I guess there's nothing wrong if today's generation has their Kate and eats it too! Eivor can sing - she has stage presence - BUT - it does seem like she's doing what Kate Bush already did many times over. No fault of hers but originality must count for something. On the plus side - the Kate Bush revival tour could be in full swing. Edit - To play guitar and sing like that? Hmmm. Something doesn't add up. Either her guitar playing is strictly a showpiece and she's only adding texture to the other solid guitarist - or something's added to her 'live' singing. In the old days live music was almost always overdubbed. Was this? I think so - but I don't know. Edit 2 - Almost every camera shot of Eivor and her guitar shows that she's not playing much guitar. I think there was a half second shot of another guitarist - is that right? Why wasn't she shown playing her guitar? Most shots are of her barely moving her fingers and seldom strumming. It would have been nice if they showed more of the whole band all together playing this song so we could actually decipher who and what they were doing. The way this clip was presented - it was more like a video and not like a real rendition of them playing this song live. I don't know this band - some of you do - is there another guitarist? And to jump from player to player without even one whole long shot of the band is.....suspicious. If they really are this good live - show me all these moving parts. To me - unless you commenters convince me - this was a cut and paste job of them playing whatever - a video - and not them playing live. This is studio gimmickry. I'm almost 100% certain of it.

@@ragnaur Can’t blame him for questioning to be honest. Falling free does neither truly showcase what Eivør can do with her voice or guitar (or any stringinstrument for that matter) or drums. It is a nice build-up song well suited for rounding a concert off, but in my opinion i don’t rank Falling free among or best or better pieces.. If anything it just puts her in a box. True Love live in Los Angeles? Yes, now we are talking! Or Wake me up live, yeah now we really are talking! As for melodic songs in different genres Verð mín, Brotin, Remember me, Rain, Far away, in my shoes, and a long list of others are way better than Falling free..

@@kentmains7763 I never said Eivør is a cheap Kate Bush imitator! Maybe you can clearify where you got that impression! Speaking of imitators that’s exactly what I reacted to! People listening to one song of an artist and calling upon plagiarism of another artist, jeez.. The two ladies have a similar tone and that’s that! I own 8 of Kate Bush’s albums, and heard her Live in Copenhagen back in 1979 at the Falkoner Salen. Did you ever hear Kate Bush live? I doubt it.. Have you actually heard anything else from Eivør except Falling free? I seriosly doubt that too.. Eivør sounds better live of the two artists, that’s my honest opinion..

Jonathan - Kent was referring to me. It does read like an attack - but I am new to the artist and had to go to work and was trying to take it all in. As a first impression - and mine are often wrong - this artist did seem like KB. I also noted that she sang well and had great stage presence - so clearly I wasn't all negative. Right? Kent, do you know this artist? Was there another guitarist playing this song - the video didn't show much. Please tell me if that was a video - a cut and paste job with overdubs. Or - was that a bonafide live performance. I went on the record because what we saw wasn't conclusive to me. I said I think that was a video enhanced in the studio. Was it? If you're a fan - I'll believe you. I was too harsh in my KB comparison, I'll concede to that.- she sounds like a truly great singer - but if you know - please tell me - was that live or as they used to say - was that Memorex? Thank you for your kind reply.

Her voice was ok. The song a little basic. Also repetitive, just ramping up the volume half way through doesn't make for a lot of contrast. And what was that drummer on. For such a basic beat, all that gurning, and grimacing, seemed ludicrously over the top. Certainly doesn't inspire me to want to hear more.
