Dicky Betts song, vocals, and guitar. Pure Allman joy! There have been many iterations of the 2 guitar approach in this band's long career. But the original duo of Duane and Dicky broke the trail. This song always puts a smile on my face! Peace & Love.

Just three days ago as of me writing this, we lost Dickey Betts; writer, singer and co-guitarist of this song, among many other Allman Brothers songs. The other guitarist, Duane Allman, had tragically died in a motorcycle crash in 1971 before this song was released but he recorded his parts before the incident. Duane plays the first solo that kicks in after the vocals stop. There’s a very brief part where both play together before kicking into Betts’ solo, which plays until the vocals come back. Apparently Duane also encouraged Dickey Betts to sing the song too, as before this Betts had never sang a song before (Gregg Allman is their primary singer).

@@babylonsister118 I was very familiar with Butch Trucks, Derek's father, as I first got into the Allman Bros when Brothers and Sisters came out (my first concert was Allmans in about 1973) and then discovered their early stuff. I remember Butch as having "replaced" Duane in the lineup. I don't remember Warren Haynes as a full band member at that time, but my memory could be faulty. I didn't follow them much after B&S, and when Derek played with them, my attention having been turned to fusion and prog for a while.

One of the best songs ever from one of the greatest bands ever. Dickey & Duane were unmatched as a pair of leads, and Barry Oakley is one of the most underrated bassists in Rock. But everything was perfect about the group. And they were at their best in front of an audience. Great narrative interpretation of the interplay of guitars & lyrics. It’s hard to believe Duane was only 24 when he died, & had only played slide for 3 years. What a loss.✌️❤️🎶

JP, my brother...I don't think I've written since you covered Yes's Close to the Edge. The ABB's Blue Sky is one of my alltime faves, and you absolutely nailed it on your initial take! Yes, it's two guitars...Duane Allman has the first solo, then Dickie Betts (writer/singer) has the second solo...notice the tone difference between the two. And you are right (I think) about the rhythm section propelling this tune. Oakley/Trucks/Johansen were superb! I love their deeper/darker stuff, and it's still amazing to me - 40 years after I first heard them - that a band that can play the heck out of something like Whipping Post can also play something as sublime as Blue Sky. Thank you for all that you do, brother.

Dickie is on the right for their guitar playing and they have a number of songs that they do the duel guitar licks. which they were famous for back then. Classic Dicky Betts guitar licks on display here, and Duane - well, he's Duane. I'm an older guy so grew up with this, and I'm trying to learn guitar. The cool note sequence on display in the solos throughout this song are one of the things I'm trying to be able to incorporate in my playing. Simple but they sound freaking brilliant! Hi JP. DP from UK. Agreed, it's pleasant musically and lyrically, and of course the twin guitar solo works well .... but!!! Whenever I hear The Allman Brothers Band (and I've heard them many times over the years), It's The Same Old Song (or at least seems to be). Maybe I just have a blind spot when it comes to Southern Rock, because I could say the same of a few others in this genre. P.S. my song ref It's The Same Old Song is by The Four Tops.
