"Our Song" is often a little overlooked song on 90125, yet I find it to be one of the most successful songs on the album. Yes I agree with you Justin, the synths sound very 80s but in this context it doesn't bother me at all especially since Squire, White and Rabin give the energy to make it more than a generic pop-rock song !

An oft overlooked gem from the band, I consider "Our Song" one of the greatest tracks of the Rabin era. It was the only song from 90125 they didn't play on the first leg of the US tour in 1984 when I saw them in Seattle. They added it on the 2nd leg, though, and I saw them do it in Portland, OR later that year. It was a highlight of the show. A real driver.

Toledo Ohio. This is my favorite song from Yes. Of all their songs. I was just looking around for an Our Song reaction video and you seem to be one of the few. They are Rock Hall Inductees and a legendary act. Thanks for reacting, you are right, great highway song. Matter of fact the song is about a particular highway and a concert hall they played where the temps inside were over 100 degrees.

I used to live next to an auditorium in Cincinnati where I saw Yes, King Crimson and a number of other bands. They had no air conditioning system at the time, so on the rare occasion where they booked a concert in summer they would hire air conditioning units on the back of flatbeds trucks. They worked like crap, and I suffered through at least one horribly hot show there. The hottest show i ever went to was an free outdoor festival concert in Blue Ash, Ohio, with chairs set up in a blacktop parking lot, and one of the artists was - you guessed it - Yes. It was so hot I literally feared passing out or having a heart attack or something. It was on a tour where Peter Frampton was opening and Yes was headlining, but since it was on the 4th of July and Frampton lived in Cincinnati, they swapped roles for that one show; Frampton, using the voicebox, did a bit about becoming a naturalized American citizen during that show. Since Yes was first, they started playing during the hottest part of the afternoon, and I could really only enjoy the end of their show. Fortunately they didn't write a song about not going to Cincinnati.

Underrated song. As for the keyboard sounds, I think the choices and production show Trevor Horn's influence. He and Tony Kaye clashed. Horn resisted the addition of the B3 organ on "Hearts". Trevor Rabin also played some of the keyboard parts. There are big differences in the keyboard sounds between the Cinema demos and 90125. With MIDI data, it's possible to replace any patch with a different sound. This happened to Rick Wakeman, much to his disgust on the "Union" album. Unrelated, but Jimmy Smith was likewise upset when his parts were "secretly" recorded as MIDI data and replaced with a different organ sound on Michael Jackson's "Bad".

I was listening to the intro to this and thought, that would make good music to listen to in a hockey rink (they plays snippets between play while players get into position for faceoffs) and then I remembered the Winnipeg Jets have 3-0 stranglehold on their playoff series vs the Edmonton Oilers and I had to smile (okay maybe more of a smirk). The song many Canadians would be hearing at this time of year, if it wasn't for Covid keeping them out of hockey arenas, would be Stomping Tom Connors "The Hockey Song". Warning... many may find this very hokey (as opposed to hockey).

Hey JP, this song was inspired by Toledo, Ohio where I am employed by the Toledo Police and have been since '93. Specifically, a show on July 30th, 1977 was the inspiration for this song. I first saw yes on August 20th, 1976 at the Toledo Sports Arena, great show. I then went to the concert on July 30th, 1977. To say it was hot in the Sports Arena that day was a gross understatement. The temperature inside the venue hit 126 degrees, THAT'S what made this show so unforgettable. The sports Arena was only about a third full as most people bailed. I remember it was a matinee show, so mid day sun, July, yeah, it was hot. I and my Friend Eric were right against the stage watching my hero and inspiration Chris Squire (about 5 months later, I got a Rickenbacker 4001 bass, but it was black). I also remember Alan White's green North drums with the huge bell openings, very futuristic which fit the Yes stage perfectly. My friend Eric and I walked backstage where the limo was picking up the band and got to walk beside Chris and Steve Howe. I shook Steve Howe's hand and asked for an autograph from them. When Steve asked "do you have something to write with?" and I answered "no", he said "it doesn't appear you came prepared" I felt about an inch tall. What I recall vividly was how tall Chris was and Steve was carrying a "purse" (one of those European carry bags that was popular for guys to carry in the 70's). BTW, I love your reactions and am a fan. Have a blessed day sir.

Great timing to put out this album as many were turning away from the older stuff and looking for a new sound. Your rendition of "Misunderstanding" at the beginning reminded me of an article that I recently read. It was about how many "prog" bands evolved to reach new audiences and greater popularity in the 80's. Rush with Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves. Peter Gabriel became massive with the release of So. Of course, Genesis and solo Phil Collins ruled--the joke was that somewhere in the US, a Genesis or Collins song was playing at any given time.

I like your comment about this being a 'driving' song, I definitely agree. Listening to this song, and others on this album, I think about the album 'Drama' and how similar something like 'Tempus Fugit' is to the songs on this album. I think Squire wanted to move away from the long prog pieces and do more uptempo songs. I think Drama was part of the process and it took the 'break' before 90125 to really come around to a newer format. I really like this song and the rest of the album as well. I think it stands well on its own and doesn't deserved to be compared with earlier Yes albums. It is its own thing, with its own style and it should be enjoyed that way.

Chris Squire had a real Red Barchetta vibe especially in the intro. Its hard to tell if Squire influenced Geddy Lee or if Geddy Lee influenced Squire in this period... likely they influenced each other- see Geddy Lee sitting in with Yes doing a Chris Squire tribute a few years back- he sounded like he had been in the band for years.

I was lucky to know yes before this album came out. I had bought the live album Yessongs in the mid 70s because I had remembered the album Fragile which I had listened to at a friend's house in the early seventies. Yessongs contained all the good stuff. Then I had followed the release of Tormato and Going For The One which I liked but not as much as the old stuff. Then came 90125 and Owner of A Lonely Heart. I liked the rockier style and even saw them live in Frankurt. After that I bought all their records. These days I would always go for albums like Fragile, Relayer, Tales From Topographic Oceans rather than 901235. From the later albums I have another favourite: Shoot High Aim Low from the album Big Generator from 1987.

I really like this one, very catchy and I like it out of context of the album. My attention was on the synths the whole time. I do like this album although I prefer "Drama" which was the previous configuration of the band and closer to their prog roots. This was more commercial-bent, there was a lot of that going on in the '80s (Genesis, Heart, Jefferson Starship, Pink Floyd). Older bands were trying to stay relevant, grab some success before they got too old.

Sometime in the first year of our marriage, my wife and I realized we didn't have "a song", so we set out to choose one. Of course, the song would be chosen from what we were listening to at the time, and at the time one of the albums we were listening to is one from my top ten list: Bluejays by Justin Hayward and John Lodge (which is often referred to as a Moody Blues album, which it is not). We picked the song, "I Dreamed Last Night," even though we don't quite savvy the full meaning in the lyrics (maybe you can help us with that). We don't listen to it a lot (you know how it is; you cycle through different sections of your catalogue depending on your mood at the time -- lately I've been focused on Renaissance, Bach, Stevie Wonder, and Blake Shelton) but maybe I'll pull it out for our thirty-fifth anniversary this Sunday (sliding from Renaissance to a Moodies vibe feels like an organic segue...). Great reaction, as always, Justin. I have this album but I don't listen to it often. I don't hate it, but it just doesn't have what I go to Yes for. Carry on, friend!

This is the that 80's commercially watered down YES. Enough there to remind you of the old YES but too mainstream to rise to anywhere near or beyond their past greatness. This had their sellout big hit and I never once even cared to listen it

Pretty decent especially compared to all the drivel out there at the time But in context to other Yes material, not close to their epic achievements... think Relayer thinl Awaken Close to the Edge too many to name Guess you could say they didn't go quite as off the rails as Genesis Well... maybe they did Bottom line is when i want to hear Yes i will not be reaching for this

@@JustJP Ah, there you go. I could read the words but I did not understand the context as I do not watch anime.

This is a good song but not a great song. As a massive Yes fan of the classic era those songs were so new, innovative with so many layers. And that classic Yes sound. However, at this time Yes went towards more pop but I did not follow. I never really got excited by the later albums. But those classic era albums were just so great they are almost impossible to top. Thanks greatly for your review. I will spin up some later Yes material and maybe reconsider my views.
