What are your thoughts on this aesthetic and style?:)

The only thing I would add are "Riding Boots" often available at vintage shops. Also lots of great dupes around....

Definitely loving these classic style. Classic and conservative is cool. I am kind of annoyed by the the..apoligize for my language here but the ...Kardashian ghetto street hoochie style. Also, the long overdone fake nails and MAC make-up look is so ugh. I am so so sorry for the negative language here but I cannot find another way to describe it. I think street style is overrated. Classy and proper dress and manners are way more classier and cooler. Thanks for this lovely video...definitely loving it.

I attended a New England university as an undergraduate where there were many students from old money. You could see the difference from the nouveau riche because old money was actually far less likely to work on promoting outward appearance. While the latter paraded about in the latest high end or openly branded fashion, the former (old money) were more likely to be found wearing granddad’s old LL Bean cardigan and a pair of comfy trousers of dubious age, probably high end at the outset, but well worn and broken in; there was very little white unless you’re on a boat and even then the aesthetic, if one could call it that, was more a yah, these cargo shorts have holes in them and have seen better days but they are wicked comfortable. I think the Royal family are on a different level as fashion and appearance goes. Most old money are generally incognito. Royals can’t avoid the public eye. Think Anderson Cooper (a Vanderbilt) vs. Princess Di. Of course, even the Queen can be found in wellies, a gillet or barn coat, and a headscarf while on holiday in Scotland so the off camera vs. always ‘on’ looks vary for many of them too. That’s my personal perspective, however. YMMV.

OMG thank you so much for sharing this deep dive of information!! You are definitely right about most old money people are generally incognito in real life. That’s why I really prefer the term to be called classic style because anyone can dress in classic pieces. I wonder who came up with the term old money originally 🤔
@purpurina56632 жыл бұрын
I agree -and I believe people mistake Old Money aesthetic for Country Club aesthetic. No no no. Apart from what you point out, I would add that old money outfits are appropriate to the occasion without ever being too a propos, ie, not too curated. This follows the same principle that nothing is obvious, exaggerated or conspicuous.

I think texture is important to rich people. Like sure. Simple and plain colors and styles but made of premium cashmere, leather, linen etc. I work as a ballet teacher and one time I had a client lend me a plain white undershirt at their house to work out in and it was 100% cashmere ✋💀😭. I had to dry clean that thing 😂 imagine dry cleaning your literal underwear

It's a very preppy classic style. Almost vintagey in a way. I don't think old money really captures what this aesthetic is but I love your take on it. Thanks for sharing

Old money just refers to a family with a generation of rich people down the line where inheritance and businesses have been passed down and the tpe of clothes they would wear represents their budget and where they stand on the ranks of wealth and the type of wealth they have . There is new money which is the show off of brands abd big diamonds mixed with trendy pieces usually worn by for example the Kardashians and many other celebrities.

love this! I also hate the name "old money" style but I love the style! I've always been drawn to preppy kind of stuff. I usually hover somewhere between this classic style and a few dark academia pieces... like... if Blair Waldorf was in The Secret History... that's how I want to dress..... I've coined the term "elegant academia" for myself to describe my dream style. my color palette is neutrals (black, white, and gray mostly, although I like camel and navy and brown as well, I just don't own many of these pieces) plus pale pink, pale blue, and burgundy. I adore all these outfits~!

I LOVE the term elegant academia!! I like the classics mixed with DA too, I feel like DA is classics but more vintage which is right up my alley along with the color palette too. Thanks for the comment:)

One very important rule that has to be included while talking the old money outfits is that they always wear steamed clothes. You’ll never see them wearing crumpled clothes and that makes a huge difference in their appearance. It looks like they made a lot of effort in getting dressed

Whenever I think "old money" I think of the Crane and Hotchkiss families from Passions, at least in the beginning. Look at how Gwen Hotchkiss, Ivy Crane, and Sheridan Crane dress, that's a great source of inspiration.

So I love this aesthetic but have to laugh that it’s called “Old Money”, as if it were a Country Club style. 🤦🏻♀️ I don’t know why it got called that. This is classic style! Something that withstands the flood of trends, and is timeless in any age. Great video! It was neat to see the reference to the Royals. I actually don’t wear wild nail polish colors, just nudes or clear glaze. I love the British and New England influence in this classic style. The blazers / jackets with double breasted buttons are my favorite. Like equestrian riding jackets. Oh, I just love them!

Most of what you showed was Prep School attire, and true Old Money Style has to apply to ALL ages...because, after all...those over 35 are the ones who actually HAVE the money. The question to ask is...are you trying to emulate a teenager (or glorified teenager) or are you trying to emulate the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Dina Merrill, or Gloria Vanderbilt, not to mention the Royal Family? They wouldn't have been caught dead in those short pleated skirts.

This is a very dated take on how old money looks like : take a look to Charlotte of Monaco and her friendS, Cara delevigne and her friends, Beatrice Borromeo and her sisters... their looks are way much more modern. The looks you are presenting look like outfits put together by someone who wants to PRETEND they are old money by watching gossip girl ( I go often to Saint Morritz in the winter and Monaco for work... and nobody jas this kind of obvious outfits). And I concur the comment below: no white unless in a boat. no buttons, nothing that can "stick out " and certainly not super bleached hair. The classic, old families look go by well worked classic where the star is not the label but the fabric (you tell when it's h&m)

The RF is not a good example is not a good example unless you're talking about Princess Diana, the Duchess of Kent or Princess Alexandra of Kent...and the Duchess of Sussex. The other members are still what it has been said all along...frumpy, dumpy, and lumpy. The RF is not fashion old model for any way and YOU can't make it so.
