With having ADHD at least for me. I've always had issues with anger and overthinking how I should I understand things and why it's harder for me to do things than most people. When I was a kid I always would run to my room and wrap a blanket around myself. I would listen to music, although lately I can't find anything calming. Nothing sticks. I am glad I sleep more now as an adult, but sometimes I'm still tired. I want to get a weighted blanket to see if that helps me, it helped my friend who has one and ADHD. I currently live with my dad who drinks too much, and we'll get into dumb arguments because he won't listen andbI only have a 10 second window before I'm really angry. I think something that some may find frustrating, but my friends and I have learned to joke about is our stuttering issues. I have issues with talking in coherent or organized sentences. Two of my friends do too. We all do this every day or so, and we've learned to laugh about it. My other friend will take it more seriously when she notices me struggling to finish a sentence. She'll encourage me. Well I didn't want to say all this, but it happened. I want to also get a weighted blanket for my nephew who has ADHD and mild autism.

@@prodbyhitcasso2044 Actually I have been reading the Bible and letting God work within me. The Bible calms me and rights my mind with God's thoughts. He knows me better than I know myself, so when I focus on God my issues seem to not exist. God is my medication and his Word is my mental soothing. Trust me that's not just a book. I've known God for years, but He showed me how much his word helps. Read a little bit every day and ask God to take care of you. All the weight is off my shoulders. It's a great feeling.

TY! I love your honesty about life with ADHD. I too have ADHD and recently it's been very difficult to read (like you it's the retention. I'll read a page, hear my voice reading in my head, turn the page and retain 0% of it). Your tips are great, and it's wonderful to subscribe to a fellow woman with ADHD. Since I think we have some sliiiiight differences from men with it, it's great to get tips from a fellow woman. Along with the blanket, might I suggest a ritual? It can be whatever you want, but when you feel anxiety flaring up, grab your blanket and pick 1-2 other things. Like a mug of hot cocoa and some mellow music? Or a favorite stuffed animal to cuddle and a photo album of a great vacation? Or perhaps doing your nails and burning some soothing incense? I have slight anxiety as well (now medicated) but without the meds for it I would grab a blanket my mom bequeathed to me, make a cup of hot tea, and listen to some Tokimonsta and it calmed my pulse and helped me relax. Keep up the videos and thank you!

+Mistress Morrigan AWW! Thank you! There is this really cool article I read a while ago about women with ADHD that was super interesting www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/04/adhd-is-different-for-women/381158/ text to speech that thing, girl! And this tip is super great! I have an anxiety attack playlist that I subscribe to on spotify and I will usually put that on if i can't stand too much extra stimulation. And if I can handle a little more, I will put on bob's burgers or parks and rec, two shows that make me laugh but I don't have to pay attention to that closely. I AM ALSO REALLY INTO COLORING! I have some "adult" coloring books and just some regular ones and I will sit down for hours and color if I get the chance. Sometimes I won't realize I am super anxious and I will just get the urge to color and then 20 or 30 minutes into it I will be like, "oh man, I was super anxious wasn't I?" There are these coloring books called "Color Me Happy" and "Color Me Calm" and they are the BEST, or at least, I love them lots.

I want to thank you for helping my kids (13 year old daughter and 12 year old son) who both have ADHD. Prior to watching your videos they had never seen (or met for that matter) anyone with ADHD talking about what it's like. Your tips have been brilliant and my daughter is now 'list girl' and seems much more organised! I've also been using talking books for my son as he finds reading too overwhelming so it was good to hear you recommending talking text. The thing that my kids struggle with more than anything however is social skills - particularly making and keeping friends as other kids just don't seem to understand their quirkiness. My kids never tell anyone they have ADHD 'cause other kids will only judge them even more. Did you ever have friend problems when you were younger and if so what did you do to improve things and If you could go back to your teenage self, what advice would you give to yourself? As a mum to ADHD kids, I'd also love to know how your mum coped, as dramarama seems to be the go in our house?? Thanks for sharing your ADHD experiences and tips - you truly have changed our lives. I'll be ordering some weighted blankets! :)

+jellybeans464 This has made my night, week, year, life! Seriously! You have left me somewhat speechless with your kind words. It's great to hear that I can help out and make a difference in other people's lives, especially younger kids who are going through what I went through not too long ago. I definitely did have problems with socializing and with making and keeping friends. It will take me some time to properly answer this question, in fact, it has given me a great video idea! I will also get my mother's input and hopefully have her guest star in a video soon. If you have any other questions for her feel free to leave them here or send me a message on any of my social media! (Twitter, facebook, tumblr, etc...) In fact, guess what, I just decided I am going to post a video in the next day or so to announce an upcoming Q&A and to gather more questions! Thank you, again for this message! It means the world to me. Tell your kids I say, "HI!!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE AWESOME AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT!" xoxo Jenn

Oooh I'm glad you mentioned the blanket. I saw an ad for an inflatable "hug vest" for autistic children that's meant to help them when they feel overwhelmed. I (semi) jokingly said to my m that maybe that's why I love my corsets, cos they feel like a hug... I was just told that I'm not autistic, which I know! I have ADHD lol. Anyways this is just justification for me to give it a shot so thank you. Also it's so nice that you have this channel, you're not all negative about the ADHD, give good tips and also are very relatable. Makes me wish I knew other girls with Adhd.

Thanks for sharing Jen!! I have ADHD and anxiety as well. For me noise canceling headphones have been a complete game changer! Instead of being distracted by my environment I could actually focus on what's in front of me. It feels amazing to actually sit down and do my homework without being distracted every 10 seconds! They are kind of expensive (I have Bose quietcomfort25), but I promise you they are worth every penny! I am going to get one of your weighted blankets and see if that will help as well. Thanks again, love your videos Jen!

This is the first video I’ve seen of you, and thought you were very well spoken as you described your world. By the way, if you are not in sales, you should be; I am completely sold on Magic Blanket. If you knew me, you would know that nobody is able to sell me anything that I didn’t want to get in the first place. But I’d never heard of this blanket, and you have completely sold me on it. I think you’re honest and passionate description of the benefit is what got to me.

I have a tip for those who have trouble sleeping! my mom suggested this... try sleeping with a pregnancy pillow. those long round pillows with little balls in it... is has to have the little balls!! it helps me fall asleep better and it makes me move less while i'm asleep.

Reading! It's starting to really bug me that my psychiatrist doesn't like to talk directly about disorders, because the more I read/watch about adult women with ADHD, the more I identify. For years, people have made fun of me for being the librarian who doesn't read (I was never an actual librarian). I could never explain why I don't read, but it's for the same reason as you, Jenn. I've just finished 8 months of a college program and I literally only got through one entire chapter of a textbook -- and it was hell.

Also, I forgot to ask what weight you got for your blanket, and if you find it too heavy or light? I also read that the blanket should be long enough to go from just under your chin to your feet. Is that how long yours is? They're so pricy, so I'm trying to make sure I buy the best one for my son. I just showed him this video, and he's now really excited to get one of these! Thanks again for making this video!

Im not trying to hate i respect what you do but ive had bad experiences with adhd meds and freinds who have psychosis from them. amphetamines only have negative effect, i just hope your conscious of what you say and do not influence anyone in a negative way. I have "adhd" and i can tell you for a fact its not real. its diagnosed to kids with behavior issues to try and control how they act and to hide their emotions instead of expressing them, which causes all types of mental problems like depression and anxiety later in life. But what is real is the long term affects of medication which messes with the dopeimine levels in your brain giving you the symptoms that "adhd" describes. :(

I'd like to point out that as a person with ADHD my medication helps me a lot. I was diagnosed at around the age of 5 or 6 and have grown up on the medications. Im 16 and When I don't take them I have a spike in volume of my voic, hyperactivity and a major lack of focus. To say it's not real is actually kind of offensive because I have been diagnosed with a neurological disorder that is managed with medication and support from the people around me. Who are you to tell me the struggles and problems I have aren't real? it is genuinely like saying autism isn't real. It is. Just because YOU or the people around you don't have it doesn't mean nobody else does. I hate taking my medication but if it stops me from getting hit by a car because I was too busy focused on the birds whistling or that person talking on their phone then I'll take them. Think about what you're saying before you say it. And just because you said "I'm not trying to hate" doesn't mean what you're saying isn't offensive.
