I built a set of Cal Tracs for my truck ('48 dodge pickup on a '70 Fargo frame) - I flipped the axle on top of the spring to lower it and I think create a bit more leverage with the bars. I think all in i have $75.00 in these bars and can't wait to try them out. Thanks Joe for video evidence of how they work.

Thanks for this video. 7.8 in a truck with a small block is a great time in my opinion. We put a calvert 9 way on the rear of that lark. The issue was the shock in it had an insane amount of rebound and was 3' shorter so when it would lift/anti squat it would rise to fast and max out the shock and come off the ground. We are running it tomorrow. Nolan.

Awesome video. I'm playing with a 75 d100 stock magnum 5.9 4spd od. Best time 13.87 at 98. Mph 2.02 60' times. With a snubber. Last time out I modified slappers and wheel hopped so bad I thought I broke it. Lol new motor home 440 with whiplash cam going in this spring. Truck is axle flipped and van lowers because I like the slammed look and am a corner hanger so it's still a sway bar bar truck with stiffer springs
@JustMoparJoe10 ай бұрын
Good stuff! I had to preload my ladder bars and go with slicks to get it to not axle hop over the moon
@steveleary684710 ай бұрын
@JustMoparJoe I've only tried drag radials so far. And the local track closed so it'll be a while before goes back. But this is always going to be a true driver so definitely keeping it simple. Definitely will look into caltracs. I like the slappers but don't like the stiff ride when preloaded. Thanks bud.

Well Joe my drag truck rear is like a car so it weight transfers properly. So rear end on top of the springs. Trucks are designed to use torque to lift the box load and push it thus rear axle below the springs. Cars on top so it transfers weight from the front to the rear. A b body rear end is 4" narrower and bolts in nicely. Dodge boxes are all the same from countless years so get a stock wheel house and extend it. Thus big tire truck. I have done this several times now and I call this hot mess the poor man's drag truck. It just works stay tuned for my 79 build

some people dont know that Lakewood makes slapper bars for later Dodge rams . but im thinking they should also fit earlier dodge trucks as well sinse I dont think they changed much? also that 64 100 CSS dodge truck 318 was talking about had an early taction bar . I switched to heavy duty 1980s dodge d150 leaf spring on my 82 and went with polyurethane bushings front and back and stopped wheel hop

What happens to leafs. Take one out or go super soft? Or the other way and add one to stiffen it up. Then how do slapper bars affect soft and hard springs? Sorry for the crazy question. If I was your neighbor I’d bring a few beers over to get through answering my I don’t know questions lol. Great channel!!!!!
@JustMoparJoe Жыл бұрын
I took the overload out when I had the truck, and added some longer shackles. I’d imagine softer springs flex more for the slap 👋
@stannelson2582 Жыл бұрын
@@JustMoparJoe my 69 notch has an extra leaf. Torsion bars are up pretty high. Car is very stiff like a go cart. 235/60 all the way around. Traction is an issue even for my holly 600 having dog of a 318 71/4 rear end lol.
@cjm5002 Жыл бұрын
Damn thats a sexy look for that D100. Love the clean semi-shaved finish. How'd you do that rear bumper replacement plate? It looks glassed into the quarter pocket to hide the seam? I've been trying to figure out a few ways to delete the rear bumper but still have some kind of impact resistance, as well as hide the under side of the whole truck haha. So, on to the tech discussion... i know i know, dont roll your eyes yet! Remember I've watched near all your content so I recall a couple of videos you talk about the weight transfers etc. Your slapper bar just kept the spring vertical travel minimal while the caltrac stops axle twist. Do I have that right? Like, both demonstrations have roughly the same body travel while the tires dig down and push the body up. To be fair, I think your old setup was the better choice for my kind of application because once you put tracs on you really lose the other functions of the truck (ya know like hauling and towing.. safely).
@JustMoparJoe Жыл бұрын
The roll pan was actually made from a shop perlin* with a license plate mount made in. Welded at all seams and then glassed in. I do think the traction bars are a better street design, and you can remove the snubber if you want to tow, etc.
@cbobmonster Жыл бұрын
Awesome truck I have a 75D 100 short bet that I’m working on. I always heard that mopars didn’t really need traction bars because the leaf springs were moved forward and all you had to do was clamp down the front a little more or am I wrong?? Thanks, great video.
@JustMoparJoe Жыл бұрын
I clamped these and it helped, but would axle hop pretty badly before I added my old slapper bars.

do the trucks share an axle housing with any mopar cars? as i want to put an 8 3/4 under it.
@JustMoparJoe Жыл бұрын
I think a c body would work well under there. May have to move the perches and find the right offset wheels. I know several trucks came with 8 3/4’s as well. I’d say mostly pre 75 models from what I’ve encountered
