I am a quartz only guy. I highly value its carefree and durable quality. However, I also value design and quality materials and often the more interesting watches are mechanical. So, watch makers please offer more high end quartz models.

The bigger watch brands all manufacturer quartz watches. That is the default movement type these days. The majority of sales are quartz. Even some of the enthusiast brands are doing more inexpensive quartz watches. Swc, bolder, marathon, frederique Constant, grand seiko, most watch makers under the swatch group and many more all do quartz pieces.

I have a few quartz watches (prefer mechaquartz), but I certainly don't like them as much as my mechanical and winding watches. To me, a quartz watch lacks the necessary quality of being a work of art that the mechanical and winding watches offer. Having watches that run on tiny little bits of momentum and keep going for literally a few days is a miracle of human engineering. Put a battery in there and the magic is gone. Besides, a hand ticking once every second just kind of annoys me now. I love a smooth second hand, especially in some of the Swiss high beat movements. And as for the PRX? No contest. Go automatic.

It's the grab-and-goability which gets a quartz selected from my watch drawer more often than not.

Yeah me too. Coincidentally when I open my watch box all of my quartz watches are set with the current time where as my mechanical watch I need to wind and reset the time, day and date. It's annoying to the point that sometimes I don't even bother setting the proper day and date
@marksaxby607
@marksaxby607 3 ай бұрын
Quite the opposite for me - I always like to run my mechanicals, and the quartz tends to get bypassed - Just how busy is your life that you can spend 30 seconds (maybe a couple of minutes if there's a day-date to set, too) setting a watch?

The Marathon 41mm Steel Navigator (date/no date) with ETA F06.412 HeavyDrive-PreciDrive Quartz movement is in many ways the perfect field watch. Rugged SS case, only 11mm thick, drilled lugs, high precision quartz, screwdown crown, a strap monster, bidirectional GMT bezel, sapphire crystal, long battery life with easy access for changes, and tritium for consistent lume. It's on the high side of quartz watches, but I find it is wonderful combination of features. Plus military proven :)

The Seiko essentials range (SUR Models) are very under appreciated. The Seiko SUR371 in titanium has been my daily driver ever since I snagged an insane deal on Amazon. Sunburst dials in a bunch of colors, classic Seiko/GS styling, framed date window, 20mm strap monsters, and come in a range of sweet-spot sizes. I am an older guy, started before quartz watches/watches resembling Christmas trees/watches that resemble a large Tarantula on the wrist. Have wanted a wrist watch that tells time reliably, doesn't have to be fiddled with every day to work (windups), has to be remembered to be worn or it dies (automatic), doesn't have to required full concentration to put on (certain metal strap watches). When I looked for quartz watches that resembled classic automatic and windup watches, it has turned out that the watch makers don't make them. My girlfriend has a Rollex. She loves it. She paid $700 for a periodic overhaul last year. I can afford to purchase a couple of Rolex watches. However, what I did was buy used, clean, quartz dress watches 30 years old and put new leather bands on them. Not surprisingly, they keep excellent time.

Thx for the Top 10. Yema is often described as a microbrand, which it isn't. They have been existing since 1948, and indeed disappeared almost as many brands after the quartz crisis. Since they have been resold by Seiko (which never made something significant with the brand), they've turned to a higher grade watch factory, producing and assembling locally, and more recently bringing their own calibers (designed from the scratch) . They have a large range too. I have the MArine NAtionale Navygraf (automatic version), and it is as good as any Swiss medium range.

G-shock and Eco-Drive actually represent a few thousand watches 😂 You make a great point of getting the quartz version of watches if the manufacturer offers it. I have a Tissot PRX and Gentleman both in quartz. I decided that the extra details and features on the auto version were not worth the extra money. For a solid brand such as Tissot, it is perfectly safe getting the quartz version because they simply don't put out a bad watch. The dials on both those quartz Tissots are stunning. It would be great if you keep putting out more quartz appreciation videos.

I have a fleet of mecanical watches but quartz still find its place in my collection. My most recent purchase is a Bulova Jetstar with the prune red dial. It's a fantastic watch.

My love for watches did start with mechanical, but as my obsession with the mechanics died down, the superiority of quartz became undeniable. These days I am mostly a quartz guy.

Quartz definitely has its place in my collection even though I prefer automatic or manual wind watches. My dress watch is an old Omega Seamaster from the early 80s and is quartz. I don’t wear it often so quartz is perfect and the battery ensures it’s extremely thin so it perfectly fins under my cuff.

I have a Bulova Jetstar Limited Edition for chest wig and waterbed swank, and a Casio Oceanus S100 that is astonishingly well finished for what it cost. Evryone should have a couple of good grab and go quartz watches in their collection.

Love my quartz watches and my favourite is my Omega AT with the grey dial. Bought it used and it still looks new. I also have a Grand Seiko quartz that is great but as with many GS watches there is no lume. I have the Citizen diver from your list and the PRX. My Bulova Lunar Pilot that I purchased used was just a little big so was moved on last year. So many watch snobs dismiss quartz watches out of hand which is sad. Every collection needs both quartz and mechanical examples. Great wee video.

I love quartz watches, g-shocks and Citizen promaster eco‐drive ones. Great accuracy and no maintenence for more than a decade. I also have automatic ones but I wear them occasionally.

Good call on the Eco-drive. I've got a Citizen Avion that is in my top 3 in wrist time. Good looking flieger-style watch that is among the most legible in my collection. I'd also say that Bulova Precicionistwatvhes deserve at least an honorable mention here. Bulova, in general, is a sleeper brand that deserves more recognition.

I have a Citizen “The Citizen Chronomaster” and it is flat-out my go to travel watch. I’ve got Cartier, Grand Seiko, Rolex, Omega, etc., etc. etc. But that Citizen keeps perfect time, eco-drive so I never have to think about winding it or battery, and it’s totally under the radar. It is featherlight titanium on the wrist. I don’t even even know it’s there. Love that watch.

got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on mamacoo 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.

A big tick to accuracy and currently loving the Mecaquartz movements in Chronograph watches from A$100 to A$900. The smooth chrono hand sweep and the tactile button operation are great.

The Certina DS Action Precidrive have really good specs and well built for the money . I bought a couple ( one to gift) of the Sunray blue now discontinued model 41 mm for like £240 ! Retail was £550. The Citizen Eco Drive diver is also excellent for the money with many choices of colours . Lastly I would add the Tissot Gentleman Titanium quartz. At 90 grams, titanium case and bracelet, sapphire Crystal and Swiss quartz movement those can be bought for under USD 400!

Good list. I only own 1 Orient Bambino automatic, the rest of my collection is quartz. It includes 2 square G-Shocks, a Citizen Promaster Diver, which I put on a beads of rice bracelet, and a Casio Oceanus S-100 (most worn watch in the last 5 years).

I have 2 Quartz watches, one is the one my parents bought me when I turned 18 the other is a Boldr Venture Chronograph with Seiko mecha-quartz movement, which is both the watch I wear hiking and the watch I check the other ones against. It's nice to just be able to grab it and go. I'm thinking of getting a solar sports watch as well.

Good list, Jody, though I would have suggested that a Pagani Design model with a Seiko VK63 mecha quartz chronograph movement should be in your list. These generally have great specs (stainless, sapphire), decent bracelets or straps, and the mecha quartz ticks 5 times a second and resets with a snap. Really decent and beautiful watches, often for as low as $60 US on an aliexpress sale.

About 6 or 7 years ago I bought a VERY well used Tissot PRS 330 Chrono Quartz from old guy in a coffee shop. This thing was used hard man, but I swear it doesn't lose more than 3 seconds between battery changes. It is the timepiece I use to set all other watches or clocks in my life. Beat up as hell but I love it to death...it sooths my time OCD 😂.

Quartz all the way for me for all the reasons you mentioned (plus accuracy; did you mention accuracy?). I now only have 3 autos and they are only used occasionally. I suspect the autos may be leaving next time they need maintenance. This will leave me with 1 mechanical watch which will never leave my collection. a 1955 Titoni that was my Fathers and is still completely reliable and very accurate (the little talked about advantage of mechanical compared to automatic).
