I did aqa psychology and I have been predicted an A*. To revise for psychology I mainly revised in the teaching style. Where you write notes on a white board (I have a large one) or paper and pretend you’re teaching it to someone (I talk out loud to myself in my room). Then rub it off and then reteach it (say it out loud again) as I’m reteaching it I write it down again as well. Then finally I try to say it out for a third time without looking at the white board. But if I need help I quickly look down. I really don’t find flash cards work for me. But this teaching method and mind maps work so well for me. Furthermore, you don’t need to know all of the researchers names (like the psychologists mentioned in the AO3/ evaluation. You can just say research has show or a psychologist found). Also you do not need to know years and statistics do not need to be exact as long as you say a similar number. To anyone taking psychology I suggest you look at issues and debates as soon as possible as you can always use it evaluations if you forget some. As to get an A* in A2 you need to have 4-5 thoroughly developed evaluation points. If anyone would like anymore help or advice you can DM me on Instagram @studywithclair

Also I recommend reading ahead. For me I always did this on the train before class unless I’d already made the notes. In my second year I made my notes before class so I already had an understanding. I have digital notes on nearly all of the topics. I also did the same A2 topics as Rhiannon. I did Forensic psychology, Gender and Schizophrenia as well as issues and debates as I already said I suggests issues and debates even if you’re in AS
@justrhiannon6 жыл бұрын
I love the idea of the teaching style! definitely going to give that a go next year as flashcards are so tedious! thank you for sharing :) And yeah you're right about knowing the AO3 psychologists but i quite like to know them because it gives me a prompt for the whole evaluation point if you get me, I didn't really explain that fully. and you are right about the stats too but I try to get them exact for topics like cross cultural variations of attachment or Asch's variations because it will make me look like I know what I'm talking about haha. xxx
@clairmf47076 жыл бұрын
I tried to learn as many AO3 psychologists as possible but towards the end of the year it became quite difficult. My fault though for not continuously going over AS content. I only put that so that any potential AS students don’t feel they need to know them all because teachers love to tell students to learn them. I’m my first year my teacher told us to learn the dates too

I revised by creating mindmaps and adding cues to them to jog my memory, as well as also having a colour scheme for each section helped me visually remember what goes where, both aqa textbooks (as & a level) have revision summaries after each chapter so i just kept writing those out, adding bits to them and also testing my memory 👍🏻 x

Cristina R tbh I’m not that good at science either but psychology is not all science there’s so much more, if you listen to your teacher and your on it with your revision then it shouldn’t stop you from doing good in psychology even though I’m not that good at science I still choose it because I find it interesting

We have virtually opposite experiences! I was one of about 6 people in my class who took GCSE Psychology, and it’s safe to say that pretty much anyone who didn’t reeeally struggled when they started in year 12. At GCSE we learn a lot of social influence & memory topics, a long with some of psychopathology, research methods & some other topics. That’s why we had to work way less to understand because we already knew a lot of studies etc already - also we knew how to phrase and all of our answers, so generally we had way more experience. For my Psychology experience so far, having the GCSE isn’t necessary but is soooo helpful😊

I wrote all my notes as essay plans on every single 16 marker i could get and then transferred them to flash cards and then went through them and wrote each one from memory on a mini whiteboard and sorted it into ‘wrong’ and ‘right’ piles and did the ‘wrong’ pile again and again until i knew it all. I didn’t revise research methods enough so that’s why i think I got an A even though i was predicted and go A*s all year (i’m happy with my A!)

My teacher was practically useless. I have about a sixth of the stuff that you do in my folder. She never gave us PowerPoints, only class activities that were over after five minutes and never get looked at again. My most valuable resource has been my textbook and looking over it by myself. I personally find the content quite easy to remember after having my topic test, so I’m quite lucky that even though I had so little to revise from, I was able to understand it.

I'm doing a level psychology and am aiming for an A*. To revise I tended to make sure I had a full set of notes which I turned over and then blurted down everything I could think of on that double page spread. I would then refer to my full set of notes to see what I missed and I kept doing this process until I felt like I was confident. Later that day or the next day I would then do it again with my full set of notes not in sight to see if I still remembered the information.

as a psychology year 12 student about to sit my mock I can tell u that psychology is not that easy! well, some of it seems like common sense to me but the harder stuff is memorising all the case studies. A 12 marker might need 4 case studies (1 or 2 for the AO1 and 2 or 3 for AO3) and in 1 paper there are two 12 markers and at AS u do 2 papers. and adding onto to that there are questions that ask for limitations and strengths of a study or evaluating it. that's a LOT of case studies to know. u need to be good at remembering the stats in it too overall I love psychology I just hate hate hate the exam

I NEED HELP !!!! I dropped psychology AS in January and I’m thing of picking it back up again before September but I’m struggling on whether to redo AS for next year or continue with A2 and revise the content that I missed and do and exam at the start of September. Do you think A2 is harder than AS by a lot cuz I want to pick it up again as a fourth subject ( doing chem, bio and maths ) since I REALLY Loved doing it and it was heart breaking to drop it since I was almost failing at all my subject but now that I’m managing the three to a decent grade ( A’s and B’s ). I’m in y12 at the moment and because of all the things that’s going on ( corona) I might have a chance to revisit the content now as there is no schools open( or very vew are going) .

Do you think someone who only got 4s in maths and science should still consider taking psychology or would sociology be more suited, because of there being less maths and science?
@justrhiannon6 жыл бұрын
Honestly the maths in psychology is really not difficult and literally stuff you learn before year 10. On the aqa psychology spec there’s a section at the bottom which tells you about the maths skills you need if you want to read through that. And honestly I don’t know too much about sociology as my school doesn’t even offer it so I don’t really want to advise you on which is better to take. I think they’re pretty similar in difficulty, work load and learning style so I’d really just go for whatever interests you the most :) I definitely wouldn’t say don’t do it though because it’s not a hard subject compared to things like actual science or maths xx
