Good video, but in my R52 you could slide the two pipes down and angle them sidewards after removing the 4 main screws, which allowed me to access the small radio screws quickly as well as slide it out.

Just wanted to say this video was perfect, apart from the torx screws on the silver pillars are T15 not T40, as are the ones holding the radio in, (at least they are in my R50 2003 Cooper).

Is it a standard DIN socket or do you need a fascia for it if fitting an after market head?

That is one hell of a faff. We've had that centre console out several times as we got rid of the gaiter/boot from around the gearstick (its like the car's bellybutton, full of dust and grot) We got a 3d printed circular plate to cover the base of the gearstick and it is so much better and cleaner.

Would it be good idea to disconnect the Neg terminal from the battery?

No need for all that, just remove the screws on the pillars then lever out the bottom edge of the speedo console until it unclips, this will allow you enough room to remove the pillars and so giving access to the radio.

No need to take the side pieces off at all, there are just 4 screws that need removing for accessing the radio.

Davidc4 you can buy a CD changer for the boot, or just use an AUX adapter BECAUSE IT'S 2015!!!!!!

+Walter White Yeah and because it's 2015 and no longer 2004 I wanted the latest stereo possible that would fit my car so the technology would be sufficient for my needs. I bought the Mini a few months ago and had an updated BMW Mini stereo fitted by a local dealer.

there are special kits for each and every radio, containing cables adapters, cases, etc

Absolutely no need to remove the side trims, merely remove the screws and there is plenty of movement to allow access to the radio screws (cutting the time for the job in half).
