I got addicted to Fairy Tail because it has some kind of mystery that give a cheer and warm feeling to me and made me feel like I'm a member of the guild and taught me the concept of friendship that no other anime has ever done and probably never will. Downside is that it was move weapon-based than using other kinds of magic. I guess they wanted your character to be unique rather than copying someone else but it wasn't that good. Then again, it was a psp game. It was fun interacting with the character though!

I watched a good chunk of fairy tail. The first few arcs, all the way up to the end of Erza's arc was exactly as you described, but after that it fell off hard for me, and by the magic tournament I disliked the show and hated it for ruining its initial promise and having me sink so much time into it. Though, If you had the same experience all the way through then that's good and I'm happy for you.

To me, Fairy Tail gives off “Saturday Cartoon” vibes which isn’t a bad thing. I really enjoyed it when I was younger. Honestly, once you’re a veteran of anime, or have experienced many different genres and styles, it’s harder to be impressed by shows you haven’t seen yet. As far as Saturday morning cartoon shows would go, Fairy Tail is pretty fucking good. I'm not gonna pretend that it is high art, even among other shounen like One Piece or Fullmetal Alchemist, but there are WAYYYYY worse shows to like than Fairy Tail. @@Wyllowisp I mean, during his fight with Jellal, you can tell he was more angry in that scene than he had been prior in the series, and eating the shit meant to kill him probably also could be explained as "the pain from that experience caused his body to react accordingly and allow his rage to build even further", which in the end might have subsided the pain entirely. It isn't explained, and the only real bad part is that it isn't, but if you take into account that people have used pain to fuel their power before in certain stories, and how Natsu's power relies on his emotions, it isn't TOO out of the question that he would do that just to get more angry. The power of friendship makes no sense because "having friends" is not a power boost. That can act as a motivation but not a boost, which a lot of series that use that don't take into account. But Natsu's fire burns hotter the more passionate he gets. Thematically with the element of fire, it makes sense. Fire is commonly associated with passion.

Its still badly written and your explanations are more headcanon because Mashima literally said the reason he wrote fairy tail the way it is because he purely wanted a simple wholesome story after feeling down about Rave Masters. In other words, its an author intent without anymore thought put into it. Did he perhaps wrote at some point in concept something along the lines of "Natsu is a very passionate person and is reflected by his fire magic and usual salamander attire"? likely yes sure but there is no in universe law that says "Natsu's flames gets a powerup the moment he becomes even more passionate" like this is nen from HxH or Binding Vows from JJK. For Fairy Tail, its purely fluff and at times, poorly build up metaphors

Imo most of the backlash it faces is either people a) judging it for not being things it clearly never tried to be (like the idea that a series as uninterested in world-building as Fairy Tail is somehow trying to copy One Piece- a series whose whole premise and selling point is the exploration of its large scale and intricate world- because idk, Guildarts kinda looks like Shanks lmao), and b) trying to broadcast how "superior" their taste in anime is because shitting on it is popular among that insecure "I'll have you know I have a very exquisite taste and only the deepest of stories are capable of entertaining my 200 IQ giga brain" crowd. The essence of Fairy Tail are the wholesome relationships between the lovable characters and I'm really tired of people acting like its wholesomeness and cheesiness are a bug rather than a feature. It doesn't need a deep, intricate plot. It doesn't need to do things no one has seen before. It doesn't need to be a grimdark angstfest where people die left and right and everything is comically terrible. If that's what you want instead of cheese, go find series that are actually trying to do those things without putting down series that very clearly aren’t. There's a time and place for Fairy Tail as it is.

Honestly, Fairy Tail is the perfect example of what shonen is. It's got over-the-top action, eccentric characters, friends throwing hands because reasons, tragic backstories, the power of friendship, and bonkers plots. But most of all, the heroes never lose and nobody effing dies unless it's a bad guy getting beaten by another bad guy. It's not perfect, but it's a good first shonen anime.

I remember watching Fairy Tail as a teen, and the thing that really stuck with me was that feeling of belonging and comfort, something about the atmosphere and comedy had me laughing out loud like i was part of their crew. It's definetly got flaws, so many other anime do aspects of this show so much better, but the style and heart of this show is something quite special. And just to add damn the ost is good, i love how they used traditional folk sounds and intruments to make such fun music that really fits the tone and style of the show.

The only thing I found wrong with this was the overlooking of Gray and Juvia's relationship and how much they cared for one another. Their fight in the Alvarez arc had so much more meaning, when Gray says to Juvia that he could never hurt her and how he wanted to protect her, it came from a place of love that wasn't like the love he has for the rest of his guildmates. Juvia has been the one person to truly understand him and help him. In the time skip after Tartaros they lived together in that cottage she was at and he left for that job to infiltrate Avatar, didn't mention it to protect her. He killed himself in that moment because he couldn't bring himself to kill the one person who saved him from the darkness just as he had saved her from the rain. Juvia freeing his father from keys had a lot more meaning to it for him than her just helping him. Like I get it if you don't like the ship nor their dynamic but this just brushed off their relationship and how deeply they love each other. They don't just randomly become a thing in the end.

What keeps me from getting behind the ship is Juvia’s obsessive nature. If she learned to respect Gray’s boundaries and realized how uncomfortable he is with her advances, that would be great. But even after he reciprocates, her obsession remains intact, which continues to rub me the wrong way. It’s because of that it dampens the tender moments between them for me. I just hate the trope of an obsessive character getting what they want without moving past that unhealthy part of themselves. It carelessly gives off the impression that if you keep pushing, eventually the object of your attraction will give in. Such behavior is scary af if it were to happen to someone in real life, so for it to be romanticized unsettles me.

I don't consider myself to be an "emotional guy". I'm not saying I don't appreciate moments that are supposed to be heart felt or gut wrenching, but I've never been a guy that actually tears up very easily. However, I have no problem admitting that Fairy Tail flat out *broke me* at points: Lucy breaking down at Makarov reinforcing to her that she is a member of their family, Erza's scream of anguish after Simon dies in her arms, Lucy's reaction to reading the final letter her dad wrote for her during her 7 year absence, Gray breaking down and thanking Juvia for saving his dad, Gajeel's confession to Levy, and the list goes on. This show made me care deeply for its characters, to the point I was more so emotionally invested in the struggles they faced rather than just being interested in how they overcame the physical threats in their way. For comparison, Dragon Ball is a lot of fun to watch in a "mindless action" kind of way, but nothing in that show has any real stakes because of the existence of the dragon balls themselves. I don't care about Majin Vegeta killing all the people at the World Tournament because it's all undone in a matter of hours, but Jellal killing Simon while possessed by Ultear is something he has to live with for the rest of his life and I sympathize with him because of that. Fairy Tail has some issues, not even the staunchest of defenders will ever deny that. However, claiming something has flaws is not synonymous with it being "bad". And while there are things about Fairy Tail that bug me, I will always say it's still a great show because what it does do well it does phenomenally. Sure, Erza should have been obliterated when she came between Gray and E.N.D.'s killing blows, but her tears being what restores Natsu's broken mind and her hugging them both while telling them how much she loves them is a moment that tugs at my heart strings so much that it's easy for me not to care that it doesn't make sense. (at least on a surface level, you can play some mental gymnastics to make it make sense but at face value yeah it's absolutely ridiculous)

Whenever someone says Fairy Tail is terrible, I say "Yes. And I love it so much." It rarely happens that a series that is really bad in many places brings me such joy instead of constant frustration. And I think that's art within itself. EDIT: Revisiting this video a year later I see the opening compilation of people calling Fairy Tail the worst popular anime ever, and that's a funny statement in the universe where Sword Art Online exists. Yes, SAO is prettier, but Fairy Tail has all the good it has (fantasy setting, great action, fun concept) and more (actually good romance, some semblance of plot, vibrant characters and amazing emotional core) and also Fairy Tail lives up it its potential constantly. You don't have to like Fairy Tail, but calling it the worst popular show is a reach with a stretch. I'm also not gonna call SAO that, because I bet there are series I would hate much more if I watched them, and also my hatered for this series is multiplied because I was disappointed.

With the exception of Makarov's ressurection I actually don't mind the ending. Yes closing the story on Zeref and Mavis ascending to the afterlife would be a stronger end but ultimately the one we got works. Because it has Lucy doing something clever and everyone else chipping in to help pull it off and it has Natsu getting a boost from those in the fight with him to finish off the bad guy. It's quintessential Fairy Tail. Also I like that it's not just Natsu beat Acnologia - it's that Acnologia has a moment of clarity and realises how far off his original goal he's gotten but being unable to stop himself so the Dragon Slayers do it for him. It parallels Acnologia and Zeref nicely and I like that Mashima did that for his two big villains.

@@natsuthebold5533 well unlike you I went through two of the first stages, I always defended fairy tail all the way up to the last season saying stuff like “fairy tail is good it has a great story, good pacing, character development, nice world building, meaningful messages, and good fights. I also said the last season was going to be great, I watched the last season and found my self disappointed, after seeing what happened and how it happened in the war I could no longer defend fairy tail. The show tried to establish the stakes are high and they could lose everything and they did a good job at first with grandpa dying because he was like a father to them his death would be impactful and be something they have to get through together, but they said fuck the stakes and brought him back at the end making one think (was there any stakes to begin with) and that made the fighting feel less meaningful like it wasn’t even a war just a hard fought battle. It made it seem like every other big fight in the show which just destroyed the whole feeling.

I have come to the conclusion that hating "Fairy Tail" is just a trend. It has much less flaws than many of the more popular anime and since people just want to fit in they automatically agree even when they haven't watched it to formulate their own opinions. It is an amazing anime which quickly became one of my favorite and actually rekindled my love for anime. I can't wait for "The Hundred Year Quest" to be released.

In regards to flaws, it has more flaws than some of the new manga\anime but yeah, in comparison to what he had at the time, Fairy Tail has less plot holes than Naruto and a more consistent emotional\history narrative than Bleach, the biggest problem with Fair Tail is just some Deus Ex Machina(Jellal Golden Flames) and the "Power of Friendship", which I think people made worser than it actually is, since most of those moment go along VERY WELL with the emotional narrative of the show

I just realized that during the parade natsu's arm cast is positioned in a way that allows him to also do the hand sign. Which either means that he purposely asked for it to be that way when they were putting it on or he forced his thumb and finger out of the cast so he could make the hand gesture.

As a writer, I actually enjoyed most of the writing until the final arc. As someone who has watched a LOT of anime (like Bleach, my god that ending was terrible) it's actually not that bad. And the random power-ups? Happens in pretty much every shounen anime, so much that it's a meme. Mashima gave backstories and arcs to almost every character and made me care for them so much that I cry every time I re-watch the series. However, I think he started to rush himself near the end and I think he was anxious to appease fans. Fairy Tail fans were kind of crazy and would attack him whenever he made a scene that didn't fit with their ships or whenever they didn't like someone so I think his way of trying to please everyone was through barely killing anyone off and making all these ships canon and giving us a overly happy ending. It backfired on him, though, and I agree with the points that you made in this video. However, I still love this show. It's my comfort show and I always return to it when I need a pick-me-up. It's also one of the shows that inspired me to write myself. Are there flaws? Duh. But it's not the worst anime ever written and it's kind of annoying that people keep trying to drag it through the mud.

Fairy Tail was one of my first animes ever and it made me fall in love with the genre. The characters were so well written that I literally cried when the manga ended. The story progression and development felt natural and not forced, the characters felt human in their emotions, the magic system was thought out, etc. I even went on a rant in defense of Lucy when people were calling her a "weak" character. In the manga chapter of Sting vs Fairy Tail, I'm pretty sure it mentions how overwhelming the aura is. How strong the Fairy Tail wizards appear to be, despite how injured they were

To Me Fairytail is more than just an anime. It is my second home. Every single person in the guild has Given me something i will cherish for a lifetime. Wendy Marvell is my favorite character that I connected to on a personal level. Initially, she’s presented as what one might take for the stereotype of a Shojo Manga protagonist: unsure of herself, sniveling and overly emotional. In their first encounter with the Oracion Seis, she has a near panic attack and kicking herself for not soldiering through it. However, what seems like a quirk turns out to be something more. Like with Natsu and Gajeel, Wendy’s dragon disappeared. This is something she took hard, wandering around in tears before finding who she thought to be Jellal. Yet just when she thought she had somebody to fill the void, her “Jellal” dumps her at the phony Cait Shelter due to more pressing matters. And that’s before Cait Shelter turns out to have been Magical Projections, more friend who disappear after Nirvana’s been dealt with. There’s a particular moment that hits hard when she begs to know what she did wrong. It felt like Grandiene leaving her all over again, something she blamed on herself. Was she unworthy of being a Dragon Slayer? Did Jellal not like her? Why? This struggle with abandonment issues ties in with her low sense of self-worth. She’s quick to come down on herself for thing she couldn’t help and feels a constant need to prove herself as not a burden. When Raven Tail nullifies her Magic and forces her to miss day one of the Grand Magic Games, she sobs for letting others down even if nobody else blames her. I legit always think, “Hey, it’s gonna be okay…” softly out of connection to the character. Sure, she’s a cute little girl ala the likes of Eri yet I feel a sense of, “I’d take a bullet for her” in a “I relate to her emotional turmoil too much” kind of feeling. She can handle herself but need the right encouragement.

gonna admit that when I was younger, I loved fairytail. First long anime series I've watched and I absolutely adored it. Then over time I started hating on it due to others bashing on it and I only started seeing problems from then on. I forgot how much i loved the series and the characters, their dynamics and their adventures. You helped me remember that I did love this series once and now I can love it again, flaws and all. My only regret is that I never finished the last 1/3 of the series and experience the journey for myself because that's when I started to hate on it. As someone who once loved fairytail, then grew to hate, but then remembered the journey and learned to love it again because of you, I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me remember how much this series actually meant to me.

I loved it too but then shit kept accumulating in it which made it harder and harder to watch. You can love it as much as you want but it won't stop it from being a mediocre show. Last Arc was just painfully mediocre with insane amount of stupid stuff. It's funny that so many people pretend it's some sort of masterpiece and everyone is just a hater. There are reasons for it. Alvarez Empire arc had a lot of members that died for emotional scenes and then came back again, again and again. Any serious scenes where they want you to feel sad or tense get ruined by crotch shots of some chicks in bikinis. Zeref and Acnologia were taken down by pretty much a simple punch that had more fire then usual. Animation in huge amount of places was horrifying. The list goes on for a long time and I mentioned just small amount of problems. The amount of fan service just made me feel like there should be a hentai scene any momment now. Early parts of FL were great but with time it just became 5/10 that drops to 3 or 4 depending on episode. When I saw Augusts twist and death I was sad and surprised with this twist. Then Mavis and Zeref get reincarnated or something so even that was ruined for me. One step forward and 3 big jumps back...

The best written characters in the series were definitely Zeref, August, Mavis and Jellal for me. They had the best writing of them all, and why they were the way they were. Fairy Tail Zero got me crying like crazy, especially at the end. Lucy and Gray, as well as Midnight are written very good as well. While Natsu is an amazing character, there's not much depth to his character on why he is the way he is, it's just his personality. Michelle in my opinion also had good writing.

Fairy Tails has some good moments, and the worst of them are how it executes shonen tropes in the worst manner. Being open minded doesn't mean you fold over and ignore flaws and your verbiage just proves your just saying "well it's good because of the themes" especially when the "friendship" aspect is barebones as hell. One Piece has way better showcase of friendship for the simple fact that there are internal conflict in the crew that are actually meaningful to the plot while Fairy Tail's friendship is pretty shallow. There's no animosity, everyone likes each other, even Laxus who was antagonistic just becomes a good guy after his one arc, so the interesting dynamic is lost. Even the Band of the Hawk in Berserk shows friendship much better than what we see in Fairy Tail's guild, because not everyone likes each other, characters in the group react differently to Guts, Casca warms up to Guts, Corkus tolerates Guts, Guts warms up to everybody, Griffith takes an attachment to Guts and Guts is conflicted by his position in the group because he doesn't feel like Griffith's equal. And they mostly all like each other, but the characters are still at odds because their goals conflict with each other. Where is that stuff in Fairy Tail? No where. All characters, while fun, are static cardboards. Even the main crew in One Piece who are mostly static characters and don't really change still have conflicts between each other at times.

Gajeel becomes a cop, Natsu becomes an Arena champion, Lucy chases after her dream of becoming a writer, Gray becomes a spy to take down the cult that was responsible for killing his parents, and some members even joined different guilds all together.

Thank you for this. I never necessarily needed validation in my love for fairy tail but knowing there are others out there in my camp puts a smile on my face. Fairy Tail is what happens when an anime doesn't lie to you about what it is. It never gave you any illusions, from the start ot let you know it was a story of the power of friendship and finding your own family.... and also busty women. But truly it just doesn't try to edge lord it's tropes. One of the most honest anime ever.

Personally I felt that after the Grand Magic Games, Fairy Tail leaned towards to fan service more, then we lost the magic circles (which was so bad because that's why a lot of people watched in the first place), some of the fights look like a PowerPoint Presentation, the Deus Ex Machina of people not dying, and the power of friendships. Come on, Erza shouldn't have the capability to destroy that meteor, I'd prefer if Wendy gave Jellal a quick power boost, so that his similar spell Sema can destroy it. If these were solved quickly, Fairy Tail haters wouldn't have much to complain about. Other than those complain I still love the anime. I've been watching it since I was 9, and I'm 21 now and I still love it. I love how the lore behind the celestial wizards, the foreshadowing of the dragon slayers' pasts, and Natsu's back story. These were all questions I wanted to be answered growing up.

You mentioned a lot of problems already and we both know there are more. For example Zeref and Acnologia fights were horrible. I lost count how many times I saw crotch shots of some chick during some fights or dialogue that were supposed to be very serious or sad. Wendys fight against time deity or something was lame too but I gave it a pass because at last there was something to lose. That other girl had to lose her magic to win but at the end we found out she can use it again just not as strong for now. They faced against opponents with insane powers but bad plot armor was stronger. The list goes on. Criticizing FL doesn't turn anyone into a hater. We both can see why it is criticized so much and I loved it too once. I still do but only early parts. These "big reveals" were often bad too. There isn't any weight behind Natsu past because he doesn't care about it. He has 0 emotions for his brother or parents he once had. It's all about "MAHW GILD". So much about it that I felt like I would see Fast&Furious family memes during anime. The only thing that saddened and surprised me was a twist that August was son of Mavis and Zeref. His end hit me a bit. Then I saw Zeref and Mavis alive again without their memories or curse. So they ruined that twist too. If they wanted this happy happy happy ending then show them as parents and August as a kid but no.... It's sad to see this anime to go down so much.

What bugged me incessantly was the constant bait and switch crap of characters taking very clearly fatal wounds -- often a hole right through the torso/spine -- and then somehow surviving. In some cases it's explained by time-stop or time-travel, but other times it's completely unexplained (at one point Panther Lily has a large hole blasted right through his chest and is just fine later).

One of the most heartbreaking scene has to be when Earth Lisanna gets sucked in to anima that teleports them back to Earth Land from Edolas, then Edo-Mira is telling her "We know" Also, as someone who writes psychological thrillers and spent most of her life watching mostly soul breaking shows, Fairy Tail is a refreshing show to watch. For me, it serves as a little positivity, since everything nowadays tries to be deep, negative and torturing. I do enjoy these kinds of shows, they make you think deeper and such, but it gets REALLY boring and overwhelming after a while. Fairy Tail makes it easy for me to relax and detach from all the other gloomy shows(not just animes, but movies and shows too). Not to mention that it's comfortingly wholesome, for once I am glad that death is a myth in an anime. I'm so tired of everything trying to be sad and tragic.

But, I don't really identify her as a Mary sue completely due to the fact that she was beaten way more than once, had struggles defeating foes more than once, and relies on her friends for help when it is needed. Is she overpowered? Yes, and it can be a bit over the top at times. But, she's not like Korra from Avatar, Rey from SW or Captain Marvel from the MCU. Those characters are truly worthy of the Mary Sue title. That's just my viewpoint though. So basically I kind of agree, but disagree as well.

Erza has definitely gone through many trials in her life that make her realize she is weak. She wore armor at the beginning of the show, feeling as though she needed it to be strong-only to find out she was still weak with the armor, and her friends were what really made her strong. She also learned to not be so stoic all of the time, and to open her heart to others and feel and show love with all of her heart. That is just one example. She is powerful, yes, but she doesn't get her power from nowhere or for no reason (like a Mary Sue does), she earned it and suffered a lot along the way (but also the OP power of the Tenrou Tree helps 😋). This quote holds weight (in the context of the show and in my life) and is one of my favorites. 😁💖

@@Brotherofthe4thCompany, fair enough. I watched the show in the dubbed version and personally liked Erza's voice because FMA was my introduction to anime and I absolutely loved Hawkeye! The familiar voice was comforting to me (that sounds weird, but it's true)-especially due to how Erza holds herself as a character. My gf watched Fairy Tail subbed and hates most of the dubbed voices. Personally, the dub works for me, but I totally understand why it doesn't for others. I still have a hard time with Levy's voice in dub, tbh. 😅 But yeah, I understand where you're coming from. All of the Japanese voice actors for Fairy Tail are incredible! 😍

For everyone who doesn't know, the 100 Years Quest is currently being animated, also I recommend watching Edens Zero which is another series made by Hiro Mashima which has recently had its first season animated, and it is pretty good. Anyway, Mashima admitted that he was a big fan of One Piece, and another thing is that Gildarts was mentioned a few times in the manga but since the anime was originally supposed to end before his introduction he was never mentioned before it. A side note, but a minor difference between the anime and manga in the Tower of Heaven arc is that in the manga Erza actually killed the sword woman, Ikaruga. In the Edolas arc, Gajeel's counterpart was an anime only character originally meant to appear in the manga but didn't make it in, Mashima was happy he was in the anime. There are a lot of flaws, the largest ones being: Plot armor, fan service, etc. The soundtrack, characters, and heart wrenching moments are something this show/series does really well at. Since you watched in sub I recommend watching some clips in dub as it is quite good, Acnologia is even voiced by J Michael Tatum.

many people will say that fairy tail final arc is bad and how it was handle but what about Naruto last arc there were a lot of problems about it but ends in a warm feeling. Or bleach with a weird ending that not a lot of people like and hates it. not every thing is perfect no matter the story telling or the art style but the way we live through it and seeing the character we come to love in its final arc with character development and strength they have gotten. every manga and anime have a meaning behind them Naruto it about reaching your goals, bleach is about not being afraid of death and protection, Dragon ball z and super is about breaking your limits, One Piece is about adventure and self discovery. while fairy tail is about finding your family sharing the pain with others and being weird is not all bad it about being your self. thanks for reading Like if you agree and comment on your idea about fairy tail

@@sarthakarora3212 No, Kishimoto already stated many times he started the series with just one though "I want Naruto and Sasuke to fight at the end", with just that he started writting, he already stated he just put the Bijuus in the series cause he liked Kaijuu fights and he wanted to have one in his manga, hence why Gaara became a Junchuriki, and he also stated that, when Shippuden started he wanted now to tell a history about people learning to understand each other and symphatize with the giant taied beasts, hence why Kurama switched from being a pure evil villain to be the "evil" part of a divided Kurama. And he already stated he had no pland on how to defeat Madara, that' why he created Kaguya. He never had everything well planned, that's why things ere always changing. And I'M not saying it's bad to not have everything planned, cause he did it well in the beginning of the story, but this lack of poper planning started to show when we started the "Shippuden" part of the manga and it created many incosistencies and plotholes. And he added Kaguya caue he didn't knew about how to defeat Madara, he neverplanned his defeat s he simply added the Otsutsuki and retconned the entire story basically, cause he put himself in a corner on how OP Madara was

Lionard Kirsch it’s a double edged sword, because Fairy Tail’s theme of friendship often gave Natsu (the protagonist) power ups to defeat his foes. I think that happened a couple too many times for my taste, especially after watching One Piece where Luffy’s victories always feels earned (he also gets his ass whooped a couple times and it makes his victories that much sweeter)

I agree with your overall point that the lack of deaths doesn't necessarily mean a series is bad. I love shows which have no character deaths like my favourite series 3-Gatsu no Lion S1 (there could be deaths in S2, I haven't seen it.) Now, where I disagree is that you don't specify the fact that fake out deaths could be brutal and cheap cop-outs for drama. Fairy Tail not killing off its cast isn't necessarily a negative on face value... but when you actually look at the sheer amount of times that they tease death it is down-right insulting to me. SPOILER FOR THE FAIRYTAIL WAR ARC, CHAPTERS 499-501 IN PARTICULAR Juvia's 'death' was painful to watch... in both ways. She fucking impales herself while in Invel's trap then saves Gray by transferring blood. Then, Gray enters an emotional battle with Invel after her 'death.' We then change perspectives to Natsu and Brandish, then... in chapter 500... we get to see the fight between Invel and Gray. One more visit to Natsu, then it happens. Wendy appears and heals Juvia. Juvia's death was used as emotional bait for the audience. Gray's reaction is no longer as justified due to Juvia being alive, not dead. It would have been way more effective to keep the state of Juvia ambiguous or just commit and kill her off as Gray's reaction would feel much more warranted. Juvia died for less than a chapter for gods sake. A major character like her has had time to emotionally connect with a reader (possibly) and Mashima uses her as a tool for us to be temporarily engaged. Even if Invel was a long-term villain with more fleshed out writing, the fake out death used to establish his threatening persona would be cheap. Ultimately, the 'death' of Juvia yields minor consequences from what could have happened. The reveal of E.N.D. from Invel to Gray depicts a rage-filled and emotional Gray which we now know is emptier due to Juvia in fact being alive, not dead. My advice to authors would be: if you don't want a character death, commit to it. Death is serious business, especially in stories like Fairy Tail where the characters mean everything to each other making death devastating. It shouldn't be moulded to fit an outcome. It, the characters and the readers should be treated with respect. This brings me to a broader point. The teasing of death decreasing the tension of fights. Not only is our emotional investment being cheaply farmed for us to care about fights with villains, but any fight in future holds less weight due to us knowing that Mashima will not kill off the 'good guys.' I love the characters in Fairy Tail, they're connected as a weird family where belonging is found among themselves, weirdness is encouraged. To taint these bonds and use them as a way to create cheap drama through death is INSULTING. Death should be treated with respect. Cop-outs decrease consequences. Personally, especially with Juvia, I feel very manipulated by Mashima and lost investment in the war arc. The death of Juvia was emotional then and there... but I will now always remember it (along with Gajeel's and Makarov's sacrifices) as much more weightless than they could have been (they were temporary bumps to overcome). Imagine if they died for good and the characters were left to reminisce with the audience about the good times we all shared together. I admit, I should have mentioned that overusing character deaths is pretty cheap and tiring if you want to be emotionally invested into the show. That being said, Mashima has made a few mistakes. But in his new series, Eden Zero, I really hope he'll be able to fix those mistakes. So far it seems Eden Zero is more heavy, with alot of character deaths. I recommend you read the manga if you can, if you're into more heavy topics like death or moving on in life, then that's probably a good fit for you. I'm also glad my comment was open to discussion. I've seen so many comments just saying their opinion and not taking others into account. Now, there's nothing wrong with being bold. Being headstrong, however, is different. To be a good fan is to be open to others opinions without getting upset. The side characters don't actually matter. Their emotions are not properly received because there is almost no characterization for them. We don't know their motivation and the they are more of a character stereotype. Not even the biggest FT stans can name the characters from the guild through memory. The main characters are bland and very boring. They're just cliched Shounen stereotypes but there is very little that makes them interesting. They have quirks that isn't actually relevant to their character. The villains on average are just marginally better than the rest. The magic types also doesn't mean jack shit in this series. The type of magic is at most an annoyance at the start of a fight before it then becomes absolutely irrelevant as the fight just becomes whose magic/friendship is stronger. They might have some generally unused powers but nothing interesting comes of it. The moments are ruined by the fact that if you actually thought about it, the moments don't actually make sense, given the supposed "rules" established that are regularly broken. Famous examples being Natsu eating Etherion and vs Acnologia.

Even though most of them doesn't even have a single meaningful interaction with the main characters. FT fans say that "everyone in the guild matters" but you guys can't even name half of those characters by memory much less describe their characters. 2) I'm not even complaining about the hardness of the power system, but the fact that the type of magic that you have does not matter. The original comment said that FT had "interesting magic types" and I essentially replied that magic types in FT doesn't matter. If you're stronger/have the POF, you'll win, magic types be damned. Why would I also even try to criticize Nen and Stands when I don't have a/multiple major issue/s with them, like I do with FT magic? Lucy had the most consistent development throughout the series. Her growth, maturity, sacrifice, was all on point. Thus she will always be my best girl of Fairytail. My second favourite would be Ultear. Her storyline is probably one of the most tragic ones, and her ending legit teared me up bad. The other ones I didn't like were Erza and Natsu who always had the power of nakama to help them win fights, and that narative is tired. The ones I wished had better development are probably Mirajane, Laxus, and Mystogan.

Totally agree honestly, Lucy is and has been my favourite since I watched the anime. Her evolution never fails to astound me, it was great to see the way she grows as a mage and as a person. Her character felt raw and real, and I think that’s why she’s continually been my favourite character even watching other anime, I adore her development despite the hate surrounding her. Ultear was also a great character, seeing her relationships and impacts on the other characters was great, as well as her own development moving into the GMG Arc! She’s not my personal favourite but her character was written beautifully and I really loved seeing her growth as well. Erza and Natsu (as much as I enjoy their personalities) don’t really give the same affect many of the others do, don’t get me wrong their backstories are tragic, Erza’s was extremely upsetting for me, but they did have that looming feeling of “I didn’t have growth because I’ve been strong the whole time” though I do see the growth in them. Erza’s relationship with Jellal really pushed her character development for me, whilst Natsu’s relationship with Lucy did the same. Natsu was never my favourite my character, but I feel like the END arc helped him to grow significantly as well. Even if they had that feeling of “Nakama fixes everything” I feel like their characters grew in emotional strength, opposed to physical. I feel like Laxus’s story was great and was good for his growth throughout the series, Mirajane was a great character but HEAVILY underused in battle (she deserved so much better oh my lordddd), and Mystogan needed to be revisited or at least looked at more during his time in the beginning seasons.

I agree but Laxus arguably has the most character development in the entire series. He went from being a spoiled brat who never cared about the guild into sacraficing his own life to save the guild. Mirajane goes from refusing to use her magic power into using her magic to her very limits so save the guild. Mystogan never showed his face and kept quiet into sacraficing his identity to save Edolas and to become their king. These characters have massive development

Characters have personalities of bricks, they are static and non changing, with 1/2 of them only being funny for the first few episodes, to them become disgustingly repetitive and boring. Female characters in this show are eye candy and nothing more, they exist to give you a hard on and, like a lot of the males, lack any depth. Fanservice, typically fine, but for some reason the author really fucking loves putting it in the worst possible moments, situations meant to be high in tension are immediately stripped of everything cuz all you actually see is Erzas and Lucies big melons. Plot - The plot sucks complete dick, it was somewhat coherent up until end of grand magic games, then proceeded to not know what to do. E.N.D was hyped up for seasons, just for it to immediately fall flat on its face and forgotten about, same thing with Acnologia. The plot also has massive fucking holes, where the moment your brain starts to have any activity, become glaringly obvious. Such examples being, if the dragons were always inside, essentially waiting for vengeance against acnologia, why didn't they come out during tenrou island when they had 3? Where they that confident they were going to live? Also, why the fuck did none of the dragons, after destroying the country ending weapons, not fucking help igneel? Also, Igneel was on somewhat equal footing to Acnologia, yet was described as barely having a fraction of his previous might, so why couldn't his prime beat ancologia? Also how did Natsu, with the power of 7 exhausted/nearly of mana/on the brink of death dragon slayers manage to 1 punch Acnoologia? Motion sickness doesn't = all his otherwordly durability going away, and wouldn't also explain how Natsu essentially got 100000x stronger for that punch to actually kill him. Also I forgot about the grand magic games arc, cuz Laxus defeated Jura, who was the 5th wizard saint (5th strongest wizard), does this mean that Laxus is essentially a wizard saint? Which also cheapened the entire point of this supposedly godly wizards? I could go on for hours explaining the shittiness of the plot, but I will stop at one this. Every arc can be described as 1. Main cast meet new villains 2. Main casts struggles/loses first round vs new villains 3. Power of friendship, out of nowhere they went from getting completely curb stomped to 1 shotting the enemy. 4. Rinse and repeat There is 0 tension in the story because the author doesn't have the balls to kill off any of his main characters. This in itself wouldn't be an issue, if not for him doing CONSTANT bait out deaths to get a cheap emotional reaction from the audience because he both can't make repercussions for any of the main characters actions and refuses to kill off any of them. Grey uses his suicide ice shell 3 times? Makarov had a bait out death 3 times? Laxus was heavily heavily hinted that he would die of essentially cancer, he's fine, Gajeel got a bait out death, Natsu had several, Grey and Juvia then shared 2 bait out deaths together. If he does it once, sure its fine, but he does it repeatedly cuz he can't write. Character designs and the world is lazy, he copy and pasts his previous works and other works because he refuses to design anything original, with the characters as well having the same personalities as well. I am literally scratching the service to the shit show that is Fairytale, and I haven't even used the slideshow animation as a reason.

FT wasn't my first anime, but it was my gateway anime. I remember watching it as a kid and it was super fun and I enjoyed it a lot! Of course now as an adult I can definitely recognize all the flaws in the show, I never really cared for all the fan service or how Lucy always felt like she was more of a reaction character then action one (and she was so whiney sometimes), among other things. BUT I will say that I still get that sense of childlike enjoyment when I rewatch the show. Is it messy and definitely not perfect? Yeah of course it is, but it always feels nice when I return to it.

It feels like it ended up going on too long for its own good. Erza had a few too many scenes where she does the same stuff again and again. The cast also just grew and grew after each new arc, I didn't enjoy the festival arc as much because rogue and sting didn't interest me as characters for example. Its a pretty big problem with 100 year quest as well, the story has so many old characters everything feels bloated. That being said it was really good for a while.

I cried when the Aquarius key got broken and Lucy lost querious. For once I actually express my pain to my family like the Fairy Tail members would I thought that's what they would want and my mom hugged me, we had a very touchy feely family but that moment sticks in my head but I just cried on your shoulder muscle laughed and she just listened to me the emotional about a TV show. Years later after my mom has died I still can't watch the Aquarius episode without crying but just for what it means in the show but for how it connects to me as a person in my memories. Fairy tale is about being a part of the family be a part of the guild being friends with the members. The tournament Arc is the only anime my brother watches with me it's just not his cup of tea but it's still the only thing he'll watch with me. Fairy Tail's story is beautiful and it has connected with me it has made me less alone I can't call it trash and I can't pretend I don't care about it I don't. Honestly it hurts sometimes when people claim that Fairy Tail is trash. It hurts because that is my love for my guild, my family. So thank you for making this video validating why I adore the show. It’s the kinda show where I just don’t care about it’s obvious flaws, they’re things I can overlook because it’s the kind of show you just wanna watch to be entertained and to enjoy the adventures of all these fun lovable characters. I dunno. Usually I think more deeply into other anime series but with Fairy Tail... It’s just the kind of show you can switch off to and appreciate for what it is without thinking too deeply into it. A lot of people seem to get lost in the mechanics of media rather than the payoffs. One of the main points of art is to make us feel things. If a story breaks a lot of conventional rules or does things sloppily, yet still inspires the intended emotion, I can't call it a failure or necessarily bad. On the other hand if the show failed to inspire emotion or lead to feelings it didn't intend, then I think it is fair to bash it.

When I was younger, I adored Fairy Tail. I read the manga, watched the anime. Agonized over the wait between the 2009 and 2014 series. I distinctly remember bawling my eyes out over Leo's two episodes. But, I also remember slowly growing to hate it, because I was conditioned to believe that it was bad. That "the power of friendship," was a terrible story mechanic, that the animation was poor, that the story was nothing but fan service. And over time, I fell in line with those beliefs. What an absolute mistake on my part. I loved Fairy Tail. I wanted to get a tattoo of the emblem. That's how much I loved it. But I allowed myself to fall into the trap of hating something, simply because it wasn't innovative, gorgeous, or nuanced. Fairy Tail is not a masterpiece. It can be a little all over the place, and the ending kinda tripped over itself, but you cannot tell me that it didn't have heart, or make you want to cheer, or cry, or scream. It is a series filled to the brim with nostalgia for many. Hiro Mashima, and the animation studios deserve praise for the story they were able to tell here. And truly, it is not as bad as everyone says it is. It's a story of found family and growing beyond your past. Thank you so much for this video, and reminding me how much I genuinely loved and love Fairy Tail. I can't believe I let myself deny that for so long.

fairy tail honestly did great at the beginning and had potential thats why it became popular. thing is, the cliche of "power of friendship" didnt hold out much longer and fans of the show started seeing the flaws of it. the author didnt grew out of it which caused a disappointing ending. for me i enjoyed it despite its flaws however if someone would ask me if its a great anime i would have to say no.

I agree. Fairy Tail is a good anime, despite it's flaws. I'm still on the Tarteros arc in the anime and on the first arc with Gray's past in the manga (as well as volume 1 of Blue Mistral) and it is the farthest I ever gotten into an anime
