Nah that rasp was NOT intentional. Celine has the ability to turn on her rasp but in this case it was clearly vocal fatigue. Normally her rasp is clean with overtones. This was rough and uneven. Doesn't take away from her amazing performance but please don't conflate intentional rasp with fatigued vocals

@queenofvegas87615 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was intentional. She IS 51 years old and has performed and toured extensively for over 30 years, many people seem to forget that. However, the rasp and strain just kinda flow effortlessly in this specific song, it's like a touch of soul. She sings a lot of songs this same way.
@queenofvegas87615 жыл бұрын
To mention, she also cracked in the beginning at 0:33.
@SarumanDeWhite5 жыл бұрын
I believe it's not intentional. Too many really high notes for anyone to add a controlled rasp.
@ChrisTheAppleOne5 жыл бұрын
Saruman The White True. I think she picked to do it in this high key to keep it as the original, and had the rasp for both reasons... it’s just how her mid chest voice is at that repeating range, and 2, it’s close to the original key. Her chest voice when she has that range of notes, often switching between mixed and chest voice, it just ends up raspy. But luckily it helps her with the emotion in the piece... it’s very soulful, and well done regardless.
@ChrisTheAppleOne5 жыл бұрын
Queen Of Vegas Exactly!! It’s like a bit of both. A) It’s her voice around that range, switching between chest and mixed voice over and over again, and B) It adds a bit of soul to it. She probably knew this, otherwise she probably would have lowered the key quite a bit to sing it with a smoother voice. Performance was incredible regardless!!
@SquidProQuo805 жыл бұрын

It has always seemed to me Céline's voice has changed every decade, even before her internatonal english career really took off. She normally can just sound raspy on purpose but I think since René got really sick, raspiness kind of became a constant part of her voice. As an effect resulting from the pain of loosing her beloved one. I realised that especially as she sang in 2015 a tribute to the Paris victims at the American Music Award. Since then her voice generally sounds a little less cristal clear but somehow even more "mature" and bluesy. And as you said her transitions are now more sophisticated and extremely effortless; more than ever. After a long day, it's always a real pleasure to watch your Celine-reactions! Way to go
