Many thanks Gareth 🙂 CADW did actually use some of the older version, which is now displayed in their visitor centre

Very good! But isn't it Cricieth as to Criccieth?
@XperienceDigitalHistory7 жыл бұрын
Hi, many thanks :) You are correct, we only gave it the modern name because that is what people are familiar with and will find in the search results. During the next castle reconstruction, we will mention other/original names of the location :)

Even amongst we Welsh speakers, there is controversy over which is the correct spelling. Cricieth is the generally preferred choice as the Welsh language is bereft of double-c in any of its spellings. Some Welsh (speakers) claim that the 'cc' is not an anglicism of the Welsh name, but rather a unique anomaly in the Welsh language, which if true, would be linguistically fascinating as Welsh is a phonetic language which does not lend itself easily to such anomalies. The truth is, nobody really knows for sure, but I personally would tend to lean towards Cricieth which is also the modern day name for the town. The video is outstanding and a joy to watch.
