Tana definitely is widely loved NOW. And her controversies when she was younger definitely held some justifiable weight. I’m in awe of her growth over the last couple years, but it’s fully incorrect to claim that a lot of her controversies weren’t that bad. Tanacon, saying the n word with a hard r to her Black friend (Imari), not taking COVID seriously, etc. were absolutely things that she deserved to be held accountable for and she has. And as a Black woman, I forgave her for her racist ignorance a while ago because of the earnest maturity we see in her now, but let’s not pretend that Tana didn’t have an era of being a villain. HOWEVER, NO MATTER WHAT, her story deserves to be heard, believed, and NOT dismissed. She doesn’t deserve the hate she’s getting NOW.

Quick clarification: Brittany has only ever referred to Cody and Tana's videos together (nothing about them hooking up. also, ew) on Brittany's old pod in 2022 with Sarah. It might not be realistic that she didn't know at all given her friendships with both Tana and Cody, but there is no evidence that she knew before the increased attention. Cody is dogwater, but Brittany should absolutely not be in this convo.

she inserted herself into the conversation though, and she accidentally victim blamed while trying to "show support." idk if it was an accident- she's called herself an advocate in social issues but can't separate her differences from tana to show support for her literal statutory r*pe? or to show that she's a safe person for other women who have experienced something similar? it's just ironic and weird.

They have to treat it as allegations because of the risk for slander, libel, and incitement. Most of us don't think about these things, and neither do influencers-- but that's why people in PR get paid to do it. They have to make sure the influencer is not at risk of legal action. For example, if this Cody sitch went to legal investigation, and Brittany made a statement ASSERTING he did these things (even though we all know it's true) and accidentally made the situation more intense with her fanbase getting riled up-- THEN she'd be actually, legally inserting herself in this situation and could get served a cease and desist or potentially sued for harassment and lible. She's trying to show as much support as possible while her team is also looking out for her getting sued in a situation she's not part of.

Can't imagine how many messages she got after the Cody Ko stuff came to light... She had no choice but to say something but she absolutely said the wrong thing. I do wanna say also tho, it was similar wording to what d'angelo used in his video. It's so clearly legal jargon to avoid liability lawsuits.

@michelledaniels98875 ай бұрын
I think it's more about the fact that she not only said "if" it happened but also that she said she couldn't be on Cancelled because Tana is controversial. Like, what's more controversial than SA and grape? Tha fuq?
@surette20125 ай бұрын
@@michelledaniels9887to be fair, unless your chronically online or save every fan cam of Tana on tour or go through old archived podcasts…you wouldn’t know about the Tana and Cody statutory bit. If you are a casual viewer or chronically online in a ‘I know every viral sound and meme’ sort of way and not a ‘I’m on Reddit and knew all of this before it got launched into public consciousness’ which I assume Brittany is, then the only history you’d have on Cody and Tana is they did a collab years ago and it was cringey. It was an open secret, but you’d have to be locked in to actually know or be on Twitter on the right day where certain clips were trending years back. Brittany, I think, on her old podcast did mention how weird that collab was, and it felt like it was a genuinely blindsided thing because the tone of that ep would’ve been way more serious if they knew something illegal took place. They just mentioned how unnatural their behaviour was in that video and moved on. Kind of joking because on first impression it was funny seeing how ill matched they were and their banter was awkward…because she was a child. Tana on tour finally said affirmatively she was 17, years before she said she was 17-18 and always mentioned the hookups with Cody and that jaycee guy in such a short way and it never got traction bc sadly I believe people hung on her saying she was 18 and likely didn’t even bother to know these men and their ages at the time. No one would want to immediately assume Cody and Tana were intimate before or after that video, especially since most of us were teens as well when that video released. I hate to say that now that I’m an adult and an looking in on this in retrospect I now realize how actually insane Tana’s treatment in old videos as a minor were. And these grown men trying to get in proximity with her even in just making content was so nefarious. Also like to mention that d’angelo said alleged and if in his own video. The impartiality, legal protection and hedging language is kind of something you gotta deal with in the social media era when mixing in defamation lawsuit risks.
@azmin675 ай бұрын
d'angelo said that because he didn't wanna get sued, but it was clear which side he was on. Britney seemed more skeptical and she ignored the situation at first cause she collabed with Cody.

It sucks because Brittany used the same phrasing as the call out video and she’s getting shit on. Ya know it just occurred to me that Emma Chamberlain is friends with both Cody and Kelsey. Kinda wild that I don't think I've seen anyone demand comment from her. Have they, and I just missed it? **Edit to state** I'm not coming down on anyone on this pod for not saying anything about her, it's just a random thought I had. Especially when I see people online coming for KZbinr/content people that having nothing to do with Cody other than also being a KZbinr.

Why are we focusing on friends of Cody when he’s the literal rpist
@andreajoan71935 ай бұрын
@@user-no5kp4wm8o I genuinely was just curious about her specifically because they had her in vids when she was like 16 and I thought that was always odd. I don't think anything bad happened with her, it was just something that I kinda thought was weird when it was happening & this situation brought that thought back up. I wasn't trying to say people should demand comment from her. Though I see how that is how it reads, seeing as I said no one has. I just didn't get my full thought out appropriately. The only person who needs to answer for Cody is him. I have been outspoken about that too. I just didn't word my comment appropriately.
