I think the size is fine as long as you have the ribbons as ties (which is what I think they where meant for) that are long enough for you to tie behind you. :)

Had a memory unlocked by that phrase! When me and my sister and our friends were young teens listening to In Da Club, we devised a dance move which was deemed the “bus driver crotchal grab.” One hand out, on the imaginary steering wheel of your bus, and the other hand tightly gripping your crotchular area, you bop up and down like iss ur birfday. I haven’t thought about that for twenty years. 😅

oh my, that is pretty! I watch a lot of old Sherlock Holmes and different old movies and i have seen shawls that looked like that. The ribbon just made it perfect! I miss going in the stores for stuff, I cant walk thru anymore (cant breath for that long a walk) and oh my, I do miss the yarn aisles! I liked the 2nd way the best but the first look was cute and looked very authentic!

I agree with you about not liking a shawl with a sharp point. I will use your advice about the chain-one, or no-chain! I have bypassed several lovely patterns for that reason. I will keep the chain-one along the sides but definitely not at the point. Again, being an old experienced crocheter I have learned something new. Thank you!

I always thought I liked pointed shawls, but as I started making a shawl I realized the point was too much. I agree with you that the short shawls look okay with the pointy curve and the bigger shawls look better with gentler points to curves. The shawl looks GORGEOUS! 😍

Great pattern for sure. In the issue of “reader” glasses-just pick those up from Walmart or even a Dollar Store. I wore readers for literally years and the strength I needed changed about every 9-12 months. I never paid more than $7-$10 for them. I would buy at least two pairs so I always had a pair of readers close at hand. 🥰

I highly recommend getting into no line bifocals as soon as you can afford it. I am the same age as you. July 1980 baby. I have the no line bifocals so I can see up close and far away and the magnification and the distance blends so nicely.

That Ethereal Eyelash is so nice to work with & works up so nice. I made a baby goose with it. Don't forget on the one cream cotton tassel trimming to cut the stay stitching after attaching to your project. The manufacturer uses the stay stitching to keep the tassels from tangling.

Ugh. I almost should hate you girl. The ribbon and edging sections can be soooo dangerous for me, even if I don't have any projects needing them. I'm like a magpie and they're shiny things. I just go through the aisles wanting this one, and this one, and this one, and... I'll just sit amd admire them just like you were doing. I also have an astigmatism.. been wearing glasses since my 20’s and now have no line bifocals so I can read things better.. wasn’t too hard to adjust to the no line bifocals and they’ve helped me read cross stitch, knitting and crochet patterns without having to change glasses. As always, I really enjoy your mystery patterns. ❣️

I'm with you, the no line bifocals are the way to go for sure as long as they place the transition correctly lol. But they are pricier and people who haven't been wearing glasses forever (60+ years here) sometimes have trouble starting out with them from the get go. Give her a couple years of wearing the two separate types and I'm betting she'll be ready to make the move to our side lol.

It is pretty! There is no way to work a pattern like that without knowing those old pattern terms! I'd be lost trying to interpret it! If I were to make this shawl, I would have elected to include the scallops to really set off the ribbon and bows. It just feels incomplete without it, in my humble opinion. Hello my fellow astigmatism queen 💜 I hope you enjoy your glasses, and that they're comfy. That said, astigmatism is an all-distances thing, I would wear those glasses as much as humanly possible. PS: Sometimes the first frame we pick out isn't exactly comfy, so don't be afraid to try new fames if need be. It's a hidden expense of wearing glasses, sadly.

I did watch this on my TV while working on some cleaning/organizing so I didn't comment before (right when it came out). The last video when you told us about the eyesight problem I knew it was astigmatism (I even left a comment). My advice for you is that when you are using your phone to type or play, try to find an angle that is more comfortable for your eyesight. I need to hold it tilting in a position that my siblings find funny: unlike most people that will have the phone with the top leaning back and the bottom leaning to the front I need to lean the top to the front and the bottom to the back just so slightly so the brightness/glow of the screen doesn't look too blurry and I'm able to see things clearly. That is also the same for my laptop screen. Also, using dark mode helps a bit, the regular bright white background makes everything look blurrier. Just experiment with different angles and find the one that makes your eyes less upset with the screen. I hope it helps!

I use Dollar store readers they work just fine. Have even uses the ones that sit on the end of your nose over my long distance glasses and they work well too. My dr prescribed a 3.00 so just bought that strength at the store.

I LOVE that comment you made about the chain 2 points, and the issues with using it on a poncho. I actually did design a crochet poncho that I made for myself, and yes, the chain 2 corners make the poncho too long. I wish I had stuck with a chain 1 at the corners. In fact, sitting here watching you alter the pattern has given me ideas for a couple of new poncho/capelet ideas! That shawl turned out to be really cute! Maybe it could be a little longer... or maybe (with a slightly lighter weight yarn) it could be a spring/summer capelet/shawl to where when the nights get just a tad chilly. I think I would have liked to see it done with the scalloped edge, would have made it just a little dressier, but that's just me :)

I've always loved making shawls with the frills on them cause to me it adds that movement to the piece when the wind blows it or when the person is simply walking around. Probably about 7-9inch frill length is my go to. But i love the pattern you used. Sometimes simple is elegant with the right touch of color.

I modify pretty much everything I crochet. Crochet lends itself to experimentation, unlike knitting (I’m also a knitter). I like the softer look with a shawl. I put sharp corners on blankets except baby blankets where I only use a chain 1 in the corners.

I am really finding this very interesting and useful. One of the reason I started cricheting this year was a way to explore historic clothing using 18" dolls. I am heading into the 19th period / Victorian period where you begin to see more crochet everything. So looking at the basic ways to create the shape will help me scale it down to doll size.

I just love the mysterious patterns! I've tried years to shuttle tatting, absolutely NOT. So I researched Needle tatting, big difference, much easier. About the trim, my aunt told me that when edge trim looked 'shaggy or worn' just remove and crochet new trim. I don't know just what I was told ??. ❤
