I was afraid to buy a budget printer, but found the Sunlu S8 to be the one we the least surprises. This video really help me get ready for what to expect and things to look for. Thank you for that whole "making sure my glass will be ok", else I would have started a print without checking, saved my life! In mine the X limit switch paddle was off and had to adjust the z limit switch position to make sure I cleared the bed after homing.

@@ryanbaker6793 no probs, Length is 24", but a couple notes. Feet are only 18" so it will fit on a surface at least 18". However, the table will push past the frame at the rear, so you'll need extra space at least a few inched to give the cable harness clear space, Width is 18", but again, with the spoll holder you'll need about 24" on width too

@@ryanbaker6793 I've printed a few things and mostly satisfied with it. I've hit the usual problem with a crappy SD card causing it the have little pauses which makes little stubbles on the print. PTEG is always a pain it seems to get dialed in so I don't think the printer itself is at fault for any of these things

This has to be the best packaging job I have seen of any 3d printer, I salute the persons responsible for this. What a great printer this is and so so easy to assemble, although I m not a fan of the specs and safety blurb on the front panel, maybe they could print this onto some film so that when you are more familiar with the unit you can remove them. I already have a printer of this dimension so I won't be purchasing this one, however, if they release one with a larger build volume and some better quality extruder/hotend components I would be very interested. Just one question does the bed continue heating when filament runout is detected?

@@ryanbaker6793 hey, I have one, so far it has proven to do well for its price. The only problem I've experienced is some jamming problems with the filament, but I am sure it is just in need of a replacement nozzle (which they provide a spare of with the printer) so that is not a worry of mine. The prints seem to be vary good quality, and the size allows for larger prints. Overall it's a great printer, only rivaled by the ender pro. Sunlu makes very high quality filament too, so even if you choose another printer, id suggest checking that out

@@ryanbaker6793 Bottom Line Up Front (These are GREAT printers!! Don't let a bad review scare you off.) I bought 4 of these printers and have been very satisfied with them. I initially bought two of them back in March 2020 for the sole purpose of 3D printing a Life-Size R2-D2 Droid. I think they were priced about $349USD back then. After owning the first two for about 3 months, I bought two additional printers from Sunlu because they were on sale for about $249USD and I loved the first two so much. Totally worth the money spent! The Sunlu S8 is by far the easiest printer to get started with as a beginner and the bed is big enough to do some great projects. Hi, i just got this printer and it works well with the premade models but any models I download off the internet or make myself, the printer has trouble printing the raft for it. Using the default the filament with the nozzle heated at 210 degrees and the bed at 60 degrees.

He should wait like everyone else until we have 3 - D printers which are sold with CD´s. Until then reviewing a 3 - D printer or unboxing one will be pretty much pointless. As much as rewarding as it is for those who prepare themselves especially to do it, there really is no point with reviewing a printer unless you bought it with the CD or CDs required to configure it. This is why all the home 3 - D printers kept failing and did so badly at printing, because everyone was so hopeful that they could do better that they forgot to make them come with the most important feature required to make a printer work - its drivers. No driver = no successful print job. Its simply as simple as that.

I got a roll of Sunlu filament and it was literally the worst stuff I've ever used, I got black and the stuff was translucent, brittle, and had underextrusion on the same settings that I print Hatchbox and MatterHackers PLA with.

HAtchbox has been the best filament I have ever purchased. Try the Sunlu Silk Silver PLA. That stuff was great!! I printed a REpublic Commando Helmet with it and it was far superior to anything else I've used for a helmet. It's tough and yet also slightly flexible so there is no brittleness to it at all. I had problems with the Sunlu Black PLA as well, but the printers themselves are rock solid. I own four of them now and they have been cranking out R2-D2 parts nonstop 24/7 since March with the only issue encountered is me having to replace the bowden tube on two of the units. Other than that they have been awesome. Also if you want to avoid some shoddy filament, stay away from Novamaker....I bought 20 rolls of their ABS Red and yellow colors and they warp like crazy.

Just ordered the updated Pro version. Perfectly what I wanted: a large format direct drive using a traditional extruder easily converted to direct drive with a stock bracket for an Ender that replaces the hotend roller head and adds a bracket to move the extruder to be above it and feed straight down ($15 from Amazon). Gives me a large bed with dual Z that I can use TPU on with an improved head on the extruder to prevent filament escape by replacing it for a small gap between the gears and the receiving PTFE tubing. Since I use Octo4a on a Tracfone Blue View 2, I don't care about the screen and appreciate the full size USB input. Will see how I like the flex magnetic bed, and can order a PEI coated magnetic bed if I'd like that better since I love it on my Kobra. Great price at $199 delivered.

My new S8 Pro arrived today, set up easily and perfectly. Since someone had mentioned the gantry not being square on theirs, I only moderately snugged the four lower nuts with the T nuts tighter, then set it upright and checked the gantry for square and it was, so turned on side again, tightened all fully and then checked again after upright, and was still square. I was prepared to shim it with aluminum foil if need be, but it was perfect from what I could see. I didn't notice the right side Z stepper had the wiring off, so stopped and fixed that when I was doing an initial Home and it was jerking downward under no power from that side. Used my square referenced above to level the L and R sides having it just scrape under the X extrusion on each side with power off, and smeared excess grease off the Z gantry down along the length of the rods and the Z was lowering like on butter. Having done tons of manual leveling, it was just nice to have it move to the four quadrants on its own, only would have been better to have it just have a menu option each time to quit, but a default of move to the next corner, repeating infinitely to not have to start it up again for each pass around. This printer bed springs seemed prone to do a little bit of "guitar tuning", in that when loosening the nuts, the bed didn't smoothly loosen (you don't always notice a commensurate looseness on your paper shim), and they would then over loosen as if the springs were jumping (like a guitar tuner does at times) and then on tightening it does smoothly pull, so in that case, just like on guitar, I seek the perfect final setting always from the result of tightening, not loosening if that all makes sense. I could have set each spring a little looser gap when cold in anticipation of the expansion when heated but it was easy enough to dial it in a couple times around with everything heated. Ran the test print of the 4 leaf cloverleaf and it had some blobs, so will do the SD card reformat, test again, and if still bad, just abandon it and move on to my ultimate desire to just use Octo4a into the USB port. The build surface was a new one to experience, and I was pretty shocked to see it refuse to release under pretty significant hand pressure after completely cooling the PLA since I was away and just watching via LaView camera. But it was stuck really good and I had to pull the bed surface off the magnet to flex and even then it didn't just pop off. This worries me a bit for using PETG as it may require a chisel to get off (!), so will definitely order a PEI coated flex steel sheet I put in my Amazon inbox. Getting a good long look first hand, I'm impressed with the value Sunlu is offering here. Where others use plastic on the extruder to save a nickel, they use aluminum (tho you could drive a truck out of the out side of the drive gears, so won't tempt any filament escape using TPU until I replace that extruder head with a printed one I have with a much closed up gap, which I'll perform when I apply the Ender direct drive conversion kit tomorrow. But the all metal front cover, the wire sheathing and clips all speak quality, along with the wider Y belt and the belt adjusters added to this version over the old version stock S8. Disagree with those complaining about the power being in risk of the bed movement, just see they haven't realized you can easily hit the power button when reaching under the right side frame member, which would pretty much make it impossible to get a hand in the way of the bed moving. I added an Ender filament spool holder that has the bearings to reduce drag when I'm using TPU and will try and report how easily the conversion goes to direct drive. At this point I'm happy enough I regret buying 2 Aquila's for $169 ea. when $30 more would have gotten me one of these with a larger bed and dual Z... This is a great value.

Maybe u can help me, i have the Problem that when i level the bed with this printer (like in the manual and also when i first heat the bed and then calibrate it) i always have the problem that, when i do a ned calibration print it isn't working. Either the bed starts scatching even though the lines look like they are too far away from the bed, or they are defenatly to close, but when i distance the bed a bit more to hace no Scratch in the print it is way to far away. Do u have an idea what might causes the Problem? My tempurature ist at 65° bed and 200° nozzel for pla Mfg Flecx

Old comment, but hopefully you resolved it by either checking the wiring for the heated bed and confirming whether it was loose or the bed was truly defective, or the mainboard was defective. I'm confident I would have pulled the bed heater wires and tied them directly to the power supply, then flip on power for just long enough to either see sparks, or the bed heat or not, indicating it was bad,,, but that's just me.

The cheap SD card that my original printers came with was small and I didn't end up using either of them. The second set of printers I purchased after a few months getting good with the first two ended up having bigger and faster Micro SD cards. So big improvement.

I have been using Cura with these printers for about 9 months now and yes, it is a Marlin G-Code that the Sunlu firmware uses. I have no issues. They work great!

I have been using Cura 4.7 and it has been working fine. Here's the settings I tweaked that gave me great results. If you check the owners manual they actually give you pretty good setup instructions for Cura. Download the latest version and then change the following: Print bed size 310x310x400 Layer height 0.2 Shell thickness 1.6 bottom/top thickness Fill density 15% Infil pattern Gyroid Print Speed 50 mm/sec (You can adjust faster if you need to, but may affect quality) Print Temperature 205 C....if printing ABS use 230 C..... If printing in TPU use 220 C Print Bed 50 C (for PLA)....if printing ABS use 80 C..... If printing in TPU use 0 C Fan cooling (check this box) Fan Speed 100% (I use this setting no matter what filament I'm printing with good results.) Support structure TREE (far better and uses less filament than traditional supports) Support Branch Angle 40 degrees Support density 25% (they seem to fail at anything 15% or less) Enable Roof Support (makes it easier to break away support material) support Overhang angles 70 degrees. This thing prints great overhangs for me Platform adhesion ( I typically use Brim for ABS prints, and skirt for PLA or TPU to prevent wasting material) Infil Travel Optimization (Check this box) Speeds up your print

Why is it requiring 220C to print correctly? Is the PID/Hot end just not calibrated correctly? I've never struggled with a PLA, I print most at 205 first layer/200 layer after with fan.

I print PLA with a nozzle temp of 205 C and bed temp of 50C with no issues. I use 230C Nozzle and 80C bed for ABS. When printing TPU I use 220C nozzle and 0C bed.

that's stock, it keeps things from vibrating loose during shipping, and is easy enough to remove. If you knew how many printers get returned just because someone doesn't even think to check connectors when they power it on and it doesn't work...

you have to turn both rods simultaneously, and if the X axis is not level, they will be binding. level them up first with power off and something to measure from the bed up and turn one side to bring level to the other. You also have to have power off. When power is on, the stepper motors lock in their position.

He replaced it with a different sd card. Corrupted sd cards seem to come commonly with this printer. I've heard some people just formatted the included one as fat32, but I would swap it out entirely to be safe. Micro sd cards thankfully aren't that expensive now.

This machine does have some nice features like the power outage feature and the filament run out feature, seems like these crappy SD cards are a issue with these chinese-made printers because on my creality Ender 3 Pro SD card went out after a couple of days so I bought a better one. And always check the temperature recommendations of each filament from different brands, different brands don't all use the same temperature settings.

I've had 4 of these printers for the past 9 months now and the only issue I had is having to replace the bowden tube on two of them. It cost me about $14 to do that and I used a Capricorn tube that I purchased off Amazon. It only took me about 5 minutes to change that tube out and both have been great again ever since. The other two printers have had no issues since I bought them. They really are great printers. As much as the video was helpful at the start, when it came to your bed levelling, I’d have to go with trying to let my little sister do it as your tutorial was unhelpful and no where near instructive. You didn’t mention about using the menu dial to help zone into the bed. That’s helpful knowledge! As for the tension springs under the bed, you didn’t mention the axis inversion on this! I’d honestly say to people to stop watching once you have your Y axis screwed in as this won’t help you any further.

Lame little screen, no auto bed leveling, no features at all besides the normal Marlin features, no trinamic drivers, plastic extruder which will break sooner or later, normal PTFE tube. Why do they even bother making a machine like this.
