The field is too big, so they have to work as a unit to stand a chance. The basketball court is small, so one good player gets many interactions with the ball. In football, if you pass the ball to a man marked player, the passer needs to be a good passer and the receiver needs to have the technical ability to control the ball under pressure, but also speed to dribble away from the opponent. And you want him to shoot too? Well he can maybe do that, but it's not like the player is through on goal after beating one man. He has to beat the rest. Basically, only Messi has been able to meet the criteria you set, and he's seen as the best footballer ever. It's very rare for someone to have that ability on a consistent basis. It happens once in a while as a fluke

I’d say say center midfielder /defensive midfielder is the hardest position in football . You have to control the tempo of the game on the attacking side while being active on defense to regain possession of the ball. It takes So much to be great in this position. Pass accuracy, shot power ,field vision, IQ, free kick /penalty kick specialist, point of attack defender , stamina (you’ll usually be required to play all 90mins)

The hardest position in Football is always that position on the field who has to face/mark/defend 1:1 the strongest player from the other team so basically the counterpart position of the other team´s strongest player´s position of their formation..and that is in every other game an other player on an other position..So basically there is no "general hardest position" to acknowledge because it always depends on the current opponent team and their set up.. For me the Goalie is the easiest position, because when his team is playing well he personally has a very quiet game and basically nothing to do throughout the entire game, and when his team is playing shit the resulting loss is the field player´s fault for playing shit. The Goalie is only to blame for his unforced errors which "good Goalies" barly make and "excellent Goalies" do not make....received Goals are foremost not the Goalie´s fault unless it was a result of an unforced error of the Goalie like not catching an easy to catch ball..or.. for being permanentely wrong positioned because he didn´t "read"/anticipate the game well, but such Goalies who do that often don´t play on the highest level anyway but in minor leagues..

Goalkeeper is the most cruel, because one wrong ballhandeling, and it's a goal. You can fly 90 minutes to the corners, that one slow ball will catch you off guard. When strikers miss open shots on goal, they still get chances to play. Keepers don't. The hardest must be central midfielder, because of the running distances and phase of the game. It's a constant switch from defender, to attacker. In many cases it's the midfielders whom are the best of the team. But they don't score the goals. Everyone only watches the goal scorer, not that defender whom just before stopped a opponents attack. I think, could that Goat have done the same, starting in a low classed team?
