Haha, thought you'd feel like that about the sabre swings. 🤣 I must have missed your Otto short, I'll need to go find it and have a look. Can't be better than the time lapse of the squash getting devoured but. That was one of my all time favourite videos.

Daniel could you tell me if the pipes of the fluval 307 would probably fit down those holes at the back please? Just bought this tank and would like to run the 307 along side the internal. Thanks 😊

Here you go Kelly: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2m3natnlpuAnbc P.s. I would read the comments too. Like I said I don't have a Fluval to test this but hopefully folk that do will chime in with their thoughts too.

What are those beautiful fish swimming around in the first 2 mins of the video? The black stripe with red line at the front and yellow spots on the tail?

They're Denison Bards or Roseline Shark. Some people call them Torpedo Barbs. I have a video about them, here you go: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epnHdoiVprumg80

The tank looks great! glad someone pointed out to you that the red plastic parts have to be removed on the lid to make it fit right, the fish and plants look awesome as well! I use one of those micro fiber things to clean everything, they work so well.

Dear Daniel: I’ve given up on keeping otocinclus. I have two left. They seem to do OK in the 120-gallon tank, where they stay hidden, most of the time. Whenever they are visible and notice me looking at them, they dash for cover. I don’t believe my, hard, alkaline water is to their liking. I also think that they were wild-caught, as they are difficult to breed. Yours appear to feel quite at home, however. I’m very pleased that you are having some success with them. Thank you for sharing this, interesting update of your, fantastic set up. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah they can be delicate mate. Think they're pretty much all wild caught but I try to buy them healthy and I've never struggled with them. They must like my water but then there are fish I don't seem to be able to succeed with at all like guppies that would probably do much better with you.
@ejbrinegar
@ejbrinegar 3 жыл бұрын
Dear Daniel: I had loads of fun with guppies for decades. They do enjoy the water in Kentucky. At the moment I’m leaning towards shrimp and tiny fish which don’t require a heater. I want to create aquascapes and hiding heaters is problematic. I’ve given some thought to Endler’s livebearers (Poecilia wingei), but would really love to try blue ricefish (Oryzias latipes). For now, I have white cloud mountain minnows (Tanichthys albonubes) which breed, often. I’m just not able to save many of the fry as the adults devour them. I’m hopeful more fry will survive in my, next aquascape as it has a lot of Java moss. I intend to reveal that one within a few weeks. Thank you for your, continued help and encouragement. Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar

Your Juwel is very nice, I have a 60 cm cube from this company but from the generation with t5 lamps that I replaced with do-it-yourself LEDs. I see that the new filters have changed from mine. It is nice to see that other small aquariums are hidden in the doors, the green sword for dusting is very useful. Otocinculus do a great job for patinous algae, I use many Melanoides tubercolata snails to move the sandy bottoms and avoid stagnation or sulfur dioxide bubble formation. Great update Daniel!

They are the best piece of wood I've ever bought and I've bought a lot. Unfortunately they had some BBA on them which I less than ideal and may cause some issue but I couldn't not put them in. Will not doubt have to deal with that as an update later. 👍

Tanks looking good, I have the 240 version and it's my fave tank. I took out the filter as I found it needed too much cleaning, I just don't think running a filter on just sponges is going to give you the best filtration, it can be pimped up though. And I was overstocked though to be fair. Keep up the good work,lol
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks bud. I stuck all the bio-media from my canister in it so it's not only sponges in it but it's early days for me. I like it so far but got to give these things a good run before you discover all the peaks and troughs hey. I stock quite heavy too so well see over the next few weeks. 👍

Nice update mate. Another thing you couldve done to get MTS in is to have a bit of pvc on the substrate and drop them down through the pvc so they can burrow down before being eaten

Dont block the gap that you point out in the filter, the pump draws water in from bottom on the side, heater does its job in that compartment and the water flows through that gap onto the top of all your media, i just looked into it lol :)

The Malaysian Trumpet Snails are something! I had some hitchhike on some plants I got a while back, and a huge colony ended up in my one 10gal tank. Now I keep them separately in a planted cube. Had the same thing happen with some sort of nerites too. Never a bad problem to have an explosion of snails!
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I love them. So good for cleaning up missed food, breaking up waste and hoovering up some algae, even clearing up the odd unnoticed dead fish. I'm not sure it would have been Nerires that bred in your tank. Normally they need brackish water to reproduce unless that's what you were running. But yeah I love them. Not only super beneficial but marvellous and interesting little creatures to enjoy.
@grantbleicher8785
@grantbleicher8785 3 жыл бұрын
@@DanielKeepingFish Now I’m curious as to what they might be, they’re definitely too small to tell exactly what they are yet but I forgot about needing brackish water for nerites to reproduce. But I agree, the snails are definitely interesting! Absolutely love how well they can clean up the tanks.

Juwel tanks are quality. Be interested to see what you think of the internal filter over time. I've had mine running for 5 years and it's pretty solid and quiet, do find it pretty bad for getting clogged up with detritus might try your wee trick. Considering removing mine and putting in an Oase Biomaster, watched your video on it seems like it could be a pretty good choice. Never had a canister though so slightly wary.
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 2 жыл бұрын
Five years is a solid recommendation. Yeah I'll do an update in time but so far it's holding up great. I tend to clean my filters out quite frequently. I'm a heavy feeder and I stock quite heavy too so I shouldn't get gunned up too often but will definitely share my thoughts on it once I've run it for a good period of time. I think the Oase is a superb canister filter. That said canisters aren't without their issues. There's a lot to be said for keeping the water inside the tank for one thing. I wouldn't like to deter you from trying something new but to me changing to the Oase would be a different type of filtration to buy but not necessarily a better one (if you're still happy with the Juwel that is).

Gives me food for thought thank you, I'm in two minds what to do. The wife wants to redecorate and re-jig the living room layout so will probably get in about the filter then and give it a good clean out. I have a lot of botanicals & leaf litter in my tank so probably clogs up a bit quicker. I'm quite heavily stocked too so decided to upgrade the pump from 600 to the 1000lph, (mines is the Trigon 190 corner) and cram as much media as I could in there too, can't really fault it to be honest. Hides the heater away too which is a bonus.
@DanielKeepingFish
@DanielKeepingFish 2 жыл бұрын
@@brianwatt7136 I had the Trigon. One of my favorite ever tanks. Had to tare it down when we were doing renovations in the house and hurt so bad I never had the heart to set it back up again so I sold it but regret that now. I hope I haven't put you off buying a new fish hobby toy. Just giving my opinion from my own experience but some of the fun is experiencing these things for yourself. Which ever way you land on the decision I hope you continue to enjoy your tank and the re-jig goes smoothly.

Thanks Pup. Yeah I was thinking about Crinum Calamistratum when I was setting it up but I didn't want to go over the top. Aside from the lace plant and the smaller Crypts and Vals there's Crypt Balansae at the back which ends up looking a wee bit like the Crinum (at a stretch). There's also Siamensis 53b and Red Tiger Lotus behind the wood. They'll be more obvious once they grow in so I'll see how they get on and perhaps add a Crinum if I think it'll work with the scape. 👍

It's because we have little people here mate plus now a young cat who is bonkers. I had a rack before but I was forever finding fizzy sweets in tanks, toddlers wearing aquarium plants, etc and now this cat keeps trying to go fishing so the cabinet works better for me haha..
