As a 73-years young harmonica newbie I find it impossible to not enjoy music and have fun while learning from Mr. Smith. His Play and Blow Away course is just as wonderful and worth many times the cost. I'm not a musician and have no sense of rhythm, but find if I do the work and keep practicing with patience - even an old geezer like me can learn and enjoy the heck out of it. Thanks Juzzie. You are a life altering human being.

Hi Juzzie, I have watched this video a couple of time. It is one of the best videos on getting a single note, air moving in and out on one hole. I am going to be honest I can get a single note by puckering and tongue blocking. It is the moving about using these two embouchures where I have trouble. When I first started I found that if I slide my tongue on the bottom plate I could get a single note and know where I was at on the harmonica. I learned that I was U blocking. There is not much information on U blocking and most of what you find is not very nice. This was 13 or 14 years ago. I still play U blocking but I have learned to change from one embouchure to another. That has been very helpful. I just wanted to be honest by posting this. It might be helpful to someone out there like me that has trouble finding their way around on the harmonica. Again this is a great video. Very helpful indeed. Thank you

Was recommended to take a look at this session by a 2 year player- wish I'd seen it earlier in my learning journey (3months) nicely presented, well explained and paced very well. Thank you! I learned one point, in particular, that I'd not thought about before that's pretty logical and basic, and that's to ALWAYS hold the harp in the left hand the same way, not be tempted even for lazy practice to just lightly hold it between fingers - now I completely get it that (in my case) my first finger laying along the top of the harp, with the left side in the crook of my palm where the thumb and first finger join - means that my knuckle in the middle of my finger and the crease in my skin underneath is directly above hole 4, so it's the marker for my brain and lips to coordinate as to where the 4th hole is. A kind of 'home' position. Simple but brilliant - others may have shorter or longer fingers but find their own home point. One thing I'd like you to cover (and I will search your videos in the hope it's there), is a little more about how to get the mouth/tongue right for playing single notes. I've seen videos emphasising the need to get one's lips round the harp so that the wet inside of the lips is pressing the metal - but that means having a wide embouchure - and that's contrary to the advice to play single notes with the tight pursing of the lips into an 'kiss' resting over the hole. SO help with how to get it absolutely right every time without leaking air into adjacent holes (but without tongue blocking, per se). Good stuff Juzzie.

When i pass to 8,9 and 10 it makes some sort of ultrasonic sound kinda broken crying dog alltogether. 😂 But the little thing is working good when i trick it with my fingers... So... Imma try your tips to see if i can regulate the air pressure. 😅 Maybe thats my problem. Thanks a lot man. Appreciate your patience and willing to teach. 🤝

Your videos have been really helpful. I just wish you would have uploaded this video earlier. I spent last five weeks wondering why in the world can't I draw hole two (G-note). Oh.. btw... One funny thing. In one video you talked about bending. No matter how much I tried. I could not bend hole four draw. Then just for giggles I tried it on hole one and it worked instantly. It was easier for me to practice it first on hole one and then move up to hole four. And now sometimes (if I am lucky) hole four bends don't sound like a grizzly bear getting run over by a train. 😅

For people with smaller hands you can make the harp cup by bending your right hand backwards. (Hold your hand like you are holding it up to stop someone, then rotate it so it's under your harmonica. Your thumbs will wind up pointing the same direction. Then just curl the fingers on your right hand over the end of the harmonica.
