The comments section seems pretty rude. Humans are not over populated, that has nothing to do with people naturally living in the earth and dealing with predation on their cattle. :/

@@travel.music.food.5403 Some *parts of the world* are overpopulated by humanity. Some parts of the world are populated naturally in accordance with the unmodified human "carrying capacity" of the area, by means of hundreds or thousands of years old subsistence practices.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Humans are over populated. The herders are illegally gazing their animals in the lions’ home, and then their livestocks got attacked, so they revenge on the lions by brutally killing them. How do you call that “protection?” It is the lions’s home, you go in with your livestock, you deal with the consequence, simple as that. Shame on you

Is that real footage of the lion attack? I don't understand how it could be staged on this budget, nor how the cameraman could just stand there if it's real
@InvictusByz

Its not the real attack, it is a recreation with a witness's help. If you look closely, you can tell there's a few tricks being used. 1: Many shots will have Tribesmen running with weapons, followed closely by a shot of just a lion running, making it appear as a pursuit. In reality, these clips were shot at different times and just played back to back. This can be done for free, by hand. 2: A puppet is used for the moments when a lion attacks a person. You can mostly tell by how stiff the hair is while moving, and the very "flat" and smooth way the jaw moves, and during the clip with the "bloody" teeth gripping a forearm, you can even see straight through the puppet. A puppet like that could be maybe $20 on the low end and maybe $100 on the high end? 3: Either Green Screen or Rotoscoping is used a few places to superimpose the image of a tribesman over a clip of a lion just running toward the camera, making it appear as though he is facing down a charging lion. Not saying they *didn't* face down a charging lion during the real attack, I'm just saying they didn't get an amazing camera angle of that. Recreation of real events and all that. This would be very simple as far as video editing goes, and could effectively be done for free by hand. 4: There is one clip that appears to actually just be a lion tackling someone. Honestly I'm not AS sure about this, but I've seen other videos where lions in captivity will do this quite harmlessly. They may have just gotten lucky and found a clip that already exists, and just spliced it in. Again, this likely wouldn't add any significant cost onto the price of just filming and editing the video itself.

Pretty closed minded. The Massai are within, or at least much closer, to the natural ecological balance. It is a lion's nature to hunt, it is a human's nature to hunt that which threatens us. A lion learning to come to human populated areas seeking food is much more likely to attack than one who has never found a meal within a mile of a town.

Livestock is often a matter of life and death for dependent communities A single cow can be the difference between a family starving or surviving. In the American Old West, people would kill or die for cattle, and that was scarcely over a hundred years ago. Those cattle are their means of survival for the community. Of course they'd be willing to die to protect it. By the description, their way of life isn't overly connected to modern capitalism so getting their hands on a reliable supply of bear spray may not be feasible, and unless they can truly count on having the spray around whenever a lion gets hungry, its not really worth it. If there's a chance they have to kill a lion the old fashioned way, they need to be sure their skills are up to the task.
