Like how people who quit smoking or drinking get a little more judgmental of people who still do those things and even a little “preachy”. In reality when you find something better, you want to share it, but as humans we don’t always want to hear it. So from the outside it can seem “fake”. I think a good way to put the difference between James' lifestyle, and the general lifestyles these days is that while for most people boredom is a means to consume, for him it is a means to produce. We take our boredom, our anxiety, our other complicated emotions, and completely burry them under consumption of media or other things. Truth be told the ways of escapism are far more advanced than it was a century ago. It's completely fair to say that we are not fairly matched against corporations that are fighting over our attention. But James shows that we *can* fight, and we can take back our attention and do things meaningful to us. You've been a great deal of inspiration for me James, I'm entering my last year of highschool soon. You've helped me pick my major (C.E) and I aspire to one day master my boredom and be able to create things like you.
