Stella was such a wonderful mom and Stormy was so well loved by her and his family. His wounds and infection were insurmountable. In the end, Stormy’s death was a release from suffering. Poor little guy. It breaks my heart seeing him like this. His feet and his wound. I'm surprised, with all the people there, no one contacted the Wildlife people to either help him or put him to sleep before it got this bad. At first, I was concerned that someone would groom him and get that infection in their mouth, but I then realized he probably smells really bad due to the infection. What a trooper and a happy little guy. Rest in peace, sweet baby.

Oh JW..been dreading this moment when he gets really poorly..thank you for the warning..I will try my best to watch out of respect for you anf the little guy..but been in tears every time I see him..in bits now and that's just reading the intro..I'm honestly not sure if I can do it..seeing this brave little man in pain and deteriorating is hard..shame we just couldn't get a vet to help but the stress it would have caused him and his family and the troop as a whole wouldn't have worked..thank you again for sharing your talent in filming these beautiful animals and your dedication to this special special boy..he will never be forgotten..💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭🇬🇧💞👍👏👏🐒🐵

@@susankrueger8031 he was born normally and could walk and was a happy little boy then his mom got attacked by another monkey..probably a male due to the damage then bit Stormy on his lower back and must have damaged his spinal cord and he became paralysed. .so he could only hold onto mom by his arms so the bottom half just dragged on the ground..he could move himself around by his arms but again his bottom half dragged causing open wounds which although these monkeys can heal wounds with their spit it was impossible to keep them clean and the infections got to his little body..but in the trees he was amazing swinging all over the place.. he was fantastically strong for such a little guy..those wounds at the end were bad..even his privates were sore..but he was such a brave little man right up until the last few days and mom carried him on her back.. he is running around up there happily now with all the other babies we've lost..

It's amazing how much understanding Stella has about her little one having a disability. When Stormy began to scream while they were on the slope, 9:01 Stella immediately ran up to where there was a flat, stable spot so Stormy could sit without having to hold onto her. 10:46 What how many times she quickly looks down at him to be sure he's okay. And... the way she backs herself up (like a truck) 12:02 to where Stormy is so he can get on. She's incredible! Most mothers just take off and expect their kid to keep up, but Stella knows that's impossible for Stormy and she patiently obliges him. 31:38 Stormy sits on the wall as Stella tells him to get on, EVEN hoisting him up further onto her back for stability, and again 32:58! These are things you don't see with the other mothers. It's so sweet to watch

I'm no doctor but starting at 14:12, not only does Stormy's wound look severely infected, but the pain the little fella must be feeling is unimaginable. This is very difficult to take-in, especially knowing his eventual fate, but perhaps we should be emotionally thankful his suffering wasn't overly prolonged, nor that he became a victim of abuse by more able-bodied males had he lived a little longer. Rest in peace 'Trooper'. As an unintentional role model for future generations of disabled primates you've sure set the bar very, very high 🖤

@@Iluthra Sadly I doubt that would happen. In the AM video about Charlotte last year 2021, an attempt was made to place this newly born baby in a sanctuary in Hong Kong. IT was not possible as the poor baby died from a head injury. However it was revealed in the part 2 video that an injured young monkey was sadly euthanized in spite of being taken to the sanctuary there. I appreciate we don't know the extent of the babies injuries and we don't know if the sanctuary is accepting any more animals.

What a lovely though sad story and how strong was stormy! His mum was wonderful the way she looked after him and carried him everywhere. I cried for both of them as there was so much love and caring. His cries were the most heartbreaking part, as JW pointed out he must have been hungry and that was why he was crying. So sad. That was a very nasty wound and it is easy to see how it led to his death. What a beautiful soul he was. I loved the previous video of him playing happily with that little female monkey. @JW JW I want to thank you for everything you do. It truly is appreciated. I know it had to be hard on you to see little Stormy go through this in person. He did make the very best of his life as short as it was & he did so without knowing he would go this early. Yes it is very hard on us to see him suffer as well as knowing he is gone but I can not imagine the pain & hurt that Stella went through. She was a good mom to him & loved him dearly. Yes they do feel pain & sorrow & they also grieve. Thank you for seeing he had something to eat when it was possible. You, AM and the other feeders always try to provide food for the monkeys and especially to the ones that need it the most. Stormy now has wings to replace his legs & is no longer in pain. For that I am thankful. R.I.P. little Stormy.

I can hardly imagine the pain he had to be in all those weeks before he died. Open infected wounds like that from experience are hard to describe how bad it hurts. Nearly lost my foot to an assassin bug bite (jab technically) that I ignored until it was almost too late, just remembering it is making me sweat.

With all stomys injury it's hard to say how he could have lived a long life, at anytime he could have ripped his leg open, and bleed to death, he could have got it trapped on a branch of a tree , or got bit again, when his mom had another baby he would not have had mom's support so much, and when he had to go with other Male's as most males do at some point normally at two, he could have been chased away, how could he have protected himself, as unfair as life might be stomy lived his life to the end, and never had to suffer the fear of another baby coming to mom, and being chased away, or having to fight other Male's, stormy was loved to his last breath, and we where bless to know him, and to learn his lesson , what ever happens with your life , give it your best shot and never give up. Just like stormy did.

@@darlenenorris5777 It looked as if the injuries he had were bite marks from a male, with 2 inch 5 cm canines. I recall seeing in earlier videos of him by the lake, a puncture wound in his back near the spinal cord, which could have caused the paralysis in his back legs. Another puncture wound is on his back right buttock. This could have caused damage in the bowel, bladder, intestine area, and there exists the possibility of infections like sepsis and peritonitis setting in. My opinions. Those of us viewers may recall the Brin and Brittanie story from last year (2021 iirc) in Cambodia, where the latter was reportedly bitten by either dogs or a male, poor Brittanie had a bad wound to her rear left buttock and it looked like the injury was also in the bowel, bladder, uterus area. She sadly died and was iirc only 3 months old.

We all have limitations and disabilities, whether they be mental, physical, or other. Stormy lived a full life, as best he could and didn’t let his paralysis get in the way. I try to remember Stormy when I face challenges. Stormy has taught me a lot. Thank you for sharing Stormy with us.

Thank you. It's heart breaking but at the same time at least we know. Many of us have been following this little one since you introduced him on his first video. He lasted longer than I thought he would which says everything about his mom. We all knew that if he didn't regain some more ability he wouldn't make it past age 2. He would have been the perfect candidate as a companion for another baby monkey with a disability. As long as he got plenty of love and affection from the humans around him.

Although its heartbreaking and very hard to watch, I have to see it through. Stormy had so much determination to survive and Stella is such a great mom. I think she had some feeling that he wouldn't be with her much longer. It's very sad but it's also nature's way. And I'm sure most would not agree but I'm glad no one tried to intervene and take him. That would have been way too much on him and the troop.

Agree. At sadly as seems taken a baby from her mom always take the peace of her. Macaques, especially Rhesus females the majority are attached to their babies, and they can get depressed after loosing a baby. There is a little island that belongs to Puerto Rico, called Monkey Island, where they studied Rhesus Macaques, and study has shown females Macaques depressed after loosing a baby or when Scientist taken away their moms for study them. Nature has it's way to deal with their own, and I know we find it cruel but at least they are with their own in their last days

People made videos to make money on YT but they really aren't experts in the field. As a social scientist I like to watch nature in person, I studied primates behavior and their social interactions in their own habitat, I don't watched videos that doesn't belong to Nature specialists. Although I don't like monkeys in captivity including zoos, at least they have essential professional experts to deal with the monkeys in a way to not harm them. I don't think many people wish anyone death, and for the little things I have heard about the VO is people not agreeing with their method they use to film the monkeys. I really not interested in argument with anyone here about things I don't have first hands knowledge. I love nature and I wish everyone care enough about it that live wild animals alone and respect their lives and their habitat.

JW, I have no qualms about saying this: This should be a wake-up call not only for all of us who have come to love Stormy, but also for all of the citizens of Hong Kong. If the city is going to benefit from counting the monkeys as its citizens (tourism and basic enjoyment by the population), then wouldn’t it make sense to have a government provided vet/vet hospital there made available just for the monkeys? If such a place existed, Stormy would be alive today. I know so many others must feel as I do and would gladly lend their support as much as is humanly possible. What can be done to make sure that Stormy did not suffer and die in vain?

Poor Stormy would probably not have survived in the long run. Being paralyzed made him extraordinarily vulnerable. Even if he had been given care for his injuries, it’s likely he would have been injured again. The pain and fear of medical intervention, and being removed from his troop, may have been worse than what ultimately happened to him. He was able to live his short life on his own terms and free. Nature can be cruel. ❤️🐒

I'm sure everyone understand that these monkeys are wild animals, but for most of us, they are living creatures and is difficult to not sympathize with them. Even if we don't name them we still feel for them. You probably are right stating that is life but that doesn't mean as humans most of us can't feel somehow connect to these creatures.

I don’t think Hong Kong is really concerned with the well being of the monkeys on Monkey Hill. The cages that trap them for sterilization shows their determination in reducing their numbers. There are several mega troops with hundreds of monkeys, more than enough for tourists. I’m not saying I agree with this, only stating the facts.

Yes. Stormy was quite normal at birth. It is assumed it was a that male bit his mother and it was obvious from the wound on Stormy’s back that he was punctured also, causing damage to his spinal cord.

Stormy is lucky to have a Mom like Stella, but, even she can do so much. This is the first time we see him in real distress & crying, his wounds are looking very angry & painful. JW we appreciate you sharing, how hard this is on you, I respect that you made a commitment and are seeing it through... for them, for us, and for you. I'm tearing up for a little monkey and his family half a world away, how is that even possible? I can't imagine what you must be feeling JW 💟

@@debvit2353 The wounds are consistent with an attack from a male with 2 inch 5 cm canine teeth. Causing a puncture wound on his back which IMHO was the cause of the paralysis in his back legs and a wound in the right buttock area, which damaged the bladder, bowel intestine area. My opinions.

@@michaelhearn3052 I appreciate your hypothesis. Stormy was attacked several months ago, a few weeks after his birth. I can agree with the damage done to his spinal cord. However, the wound on his buttock was from repeated abrasions (as were his feet). There was no damage to his bowels or bladder as he had normal excretory functions.

The puncture wounds were probably made from a bite from a male Rhesus Monkey. They have 2 inch 5 cm long teeth. One puncture wound was in the back area near to the spine that could have caused paralysis and his inability to use his rear legs; and another was in his rear, right buttock area; which could have punctured his bladder, bowel intestine. The latter could have caused sepsis and/or peritonitis. My opinions. His injuries remind me of the Brin and Britannie story in Cambodia Last year (2021) where Britannie was reportedly bitten and died later on from what looked like and infection.

Instead of being in the forest foraging for food they instead hang out on the walk ways desperately waiting for hand outs!! How awful that people destroyed these animals for their own enjoyment and amusement..

It was a trigger for me. My daughter heard me in the middle of the night saying I want to go with my mom and then crying. I think it's because I felt so bad for Stella. I am glad though that Stormy is out of pain but it was heart wrenching. I really love all the monkeys on monkey hill.

This happens to anyone that loses feeling anywhere….you don’t feel when you are cut, injured..until it’s infected and then either die or have to amputate something.
