I know we over analyze everything in World Series games, but I thought there were two plays that showed why the Dodgers beat the Yankees. Jazz Chisholm grounds to first, and tries to slide into first base instead of running through the base. He is out by a hair. Mookie Betts, gets lucky with Cole not covering, but he runs through the base. Those little things will win you or lose you games.

Banda beat Chisholm to the bag by a step. Then Cole expected Rizzo to stretch like Elastic Man. Judge took his eye off the ball. He was probably checking to see if he could double up the runner on first. He was thinking too much when they just needed to take the out. The difference is, Judge wasn’t being lazy. Neither was Rizzo. Cole was.

Cole said he thought he could field the ball, suggesting that’s why he took the wrong angle. Horse hockey. Cole made the same lame effort in the first inning. He should have been reprimanded then, so that he would know his coaches were watching. When Banda covered the bag to get Chisholm in the bottom of the second, someone should have said, “That’s how you do it.” A pitcher covering the bag is trained at every level.
