Thank you all for your comments and questions. I'm seeing a lot of suggestions about certain times and races that were faster than those on this list. So let me explain, the first thing is if the race doesn't have a video anywhere on the internet I can't add it to this list, so some of yall suggesting races from the early 90's and before, there isn't any videos of those. Also, to be considered on this list it had to be a race with automatic timing. Hand timing is incredibly inaccurate. Another point I want to make is these times are by HIGH SCHOOL athletes. So even if they are a Junior athlete if they arn't in high school anymore it doesn't count. Also, I included wind-aided times because simply, they are still covering 100 meters regardless of the conditions so I thought it would be interesting to add those in.

Roy Chester Martin Jr. (born December 25, 1966) is a former American sprinter. He is considered one of the greatest high school sprinters in American history,[1][2][3] and at the height of his career, he competed for the United States at the 1988 Summer Olympics.[4] As a high school senior in 1985, Martin set the National High School Record for 200 meters with a time of 20.13 seconds at the 1985 UIL Track and Field Championships in Austin. That same year, he also recorded the fastest prep time in the nation for 100 meters at 10.18 seconds and anchored his high school's 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter relay teams to marks (40.28 in the 4×100 and 3:09.4 in the 4×400) that are among the fastest ever recorded in high school competition. Martin was named Male Prep Athlete of the Year by Track & Field News in 1984 and in 1985 and was ranked #3 in the world at 200 meters as a high school senior.[5][6] His national record for 200 meters stood until July 9, 2016, when it was surpassed by Noah Lyles.[3] “ There has never been one like him in high school. Carl Lewis, Michael Johnson, nobody. ” - Earnest James, Martin’s coach at Dallas Roosevelt.[4] Martin was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. As a boy, he developed a mechanical running style that earned him the nickname "Robot" from his classmates at Roosevelt High School in Dallas. Throughout high school, Martin competed against Michael Johnson of Skyline High School, who later went on to set the world record at 200 and 400 meters and win four Olympic gold medals. In head-to-head high school competition, Johnson never beat Martin. "He was phenomenal," Johnson recalled of Martin, during an interview in 2008 with the Dallas Morning News. "It was incredible to watch, but at the same time I had to compete against him every week," Johnson said. "You knew first place was gone. You tried to beat out the other guys for second."[4] He was named Track and Field News "High School Athlete of the Year" in 1984 and 1985, the first male athlete to win the award twice.[7] As a college freshman, Martin helped Southern Methodist University win the 1986 NCAA track and field championship with a 43.5-second relay carry that propelled the Mustangs to a dramatic victory. His coach at SMU proclaimed Martin "the greatest pure sprinter I’ve ever seen…better than Bob Hayes."[1]

*****, wouldn't everyone's best times probably be the ones with wind aid? isn't that like common sense?
@BOB21124209 жыл бұрын
No, because any sprinter with enough experience and races under his belt would have managed a few good times with legal wind readings. In addition, the elite always peak at Championship events, and tend to perform their best on those occasions regardless of wind readings. Case in point: Usain Bolt ran his (and the world's) 3 fastest 100m in the Beijing Olympics, Berlin WC and London Olympics. Anyway, Bromell did well at the USATF meet last week, but he did get blitzed by the Canadian Andre De Grasse a few weeks ago.

In 1962 I saw Trent Jackson of Rochester NY run a 9.3 in the 100 U.S.. dash at Franklin High school on a funder track. I don't know what that would equate to but he was even better in the 220. Earl Evans ran 2nd at 9.45 as I remember. I wish they had recorded those races as they do now. From people that grew up with my father in Washington State, he ran 9.7 before starting blocks! I wish the speed hadn't skipped a generation!!
@donriffel80058 жыл бұрын
Maybe change your title to "8 fastest times you could find". The fastest high school 100 meter runner was Ken Zachary of Sapulpa, OK in the early 1980's. He consistently ran under 10 seconds. I believe 9.85 was his best time in high school. At age 18, Big Zach also set the world record for fastest 60 yard dash ever run at 5.92 seconds in a State High School Indoor Meet at Myriad in 1982. There is no internet video of it, but it is well documented. Unfortunately, he was more interested in football than being a world-class sprinter.
@JxmyHighroller8 жыл бұрын
That's impossible. The world record in the 100 wasn't even 9.85 until the late 80's. And the high school 100 meter world record was 10.08 until 2011. So everything you just said was a lie. Maybe hand times but those are way off.
@donriffel80058 жыл бұрын
I'm just saying what's on the record books. Ken Zachary hold the "World Record" in the 60 yard dash with a time of 5.92. When he did it, he was more than 10 yards ahead of everyone else. That was in 1980. That doesn't make me a liar. As far as his 100 time, I said I wasn't sure. But will check into it. He went to Sapulpa HS in Oklahoma if you'd like to check for yourself.

+The Guru I looked everywhere for Ken Zachary "World Record" in the 60 and I found nothing 'Official' and I suppose if this was a fact their would some record ,because that would have been amazing. Now he could have but it obviously wasn't Official.
He didn't run the 100m in high school. He has the youth and junior 200m world records though.

People underestimated Bolt,he really didn't even bother,because as he said in the documentary. "I choose the time,I choose when I want to beat records,it doesn't just happen" God he's my inspiration. c:
@Triekki10 жыл бұрын
***** I think he's playing it up a bit for the show but he is a very good championship runner and his coach has him peaking at the right time every season. People in the track world knew who Bolt was from the time he was 15 when he won U20 worlds. I'm Canadian so I saw him on tv when he was here for world youth and figured he would have a chance at Michael Johnson's WR. In fact, Bolt was even in the 05 world championship final in Helsinki when he was quite young. I didn't see him breaking Asafa's record in the 100m though. Asafa's 9.74 WR at the time seemed unreachable.
@BanjoJo10 жыл бұрын
I know. I've attended most of his runs since about 2009 Never disappointed. He only has "bad days" just like EVERY human because after all,we're only HUMAN. We are not robots,we cannot reach "perfection" I've spoken to him before

Bolt didnt even start running the 100m until 2007, he did 200 and 400 when he was younger.

Are the elite high school freaks in this video on performance-enhancing drugs? There are grown ass Olympic athletes out there that take steroids to run a 9.99...how is Bromell doing it "naturally" as a teenager? Raises some questions...

an illegal tailwind

Matt Boling did not run the 100m in high or middle school although he competed in the 4x100. While in high school one of the guys got injured on the relay team with no other substitutes hence the coach put Boling on the 100m instead. It was anticipated he would do something like 10.3. The rest was history. We'll see if he could do a sub 10 in college.
